I've just started a build on a trimaran sailing kayak and this video us invaluable, as far as building with the weight distribution borne in mind, and for putting my mind at ease as to it's doability. Go raibh míle mhaith agat.

Capsized a Sprint15 today in stormy sea, took 4 people with another boat for righting it, and as soon as I get home this is my firsts suggested KZbin video. WTF? Could you have shown me this before?? Hahaha
@LiamThom3 жыл бұрын
That's a very clever algorithm. Hope it helps in future. If you have a motor boat it can help pull it over using the righting line in the same way. Best to tie to the bow of the motor boat and reverse with full beans.

Thanks Liam for the video. I have started sailing my Sprint and love its speed and comfort. I am a bit apprehensive about managing righting it if I capsize. I weigh 150lbs all in. Also there is lots of places in my sailing area where the depth is less than the mast height. At the moment I hoist a 16"x6" well inflated fender at the top of the sail at least until I have learned the behaviour of the boat. Do you think the fender is big enough to stop the boat to go turtle? Cheers
@LiamThom2 жыл бұрын
I am a similar weight and can turn the boat back over. A fender should definitely help. You can get a sail maker to put foam in the top section of the mast which usually stops an inversion. More importantly make sure your mast is watertight. If you have a mast full of water then they stay upside down until the big boys arrive to help. Hitting the sea bed is not too much of a problem if it's sand but you need to get the boat down tide before you start trying to recover it.

@@LiamThom Thanks a lot. You mean "top section of the sail". I have seen the description. I could do it myself but I'd rather not have something permanent of that order.
@LiamThom2 жыл бұрын
@@Aneblanc yes, indeed. Top section of the sail. Sorry.

I went over once in my H16, when I got back I removed the jam cleats from my mainsheet block.

Was that a life vest at the top of the mast? Is that to help right from a turtle? How did you get the vest there?
@LiamThom2 жыл бұрын
Yes, we tried several buoyancy aids to see how many it would take to stop it inverting. Four do the job nicely so that was too many for this exercise. We then knew how big to make the sail floats that we had made subsequently. We left one buoyancy aid on just to help a bit. We were doing lots of capsizes so we just tied them to the halyard ring when the boat was on its side.

I have a Venture Cat 15. Same principles apply? Btw, you missed the last step: get beaned in the head with the hull. 😆 (I know it didn't happen, but it looked pretty close!)

I saw a video of a couple teens who dump regularly for fun. The guy at the front walked up the side of the pontoon as the boat righted, and landed on the tramp

Don't forget to go hold the middle of the boat or else it will continue to flip to the other side.

Why not simply hook a rope on the trapeze line? Now, you are pulling from the top of the mast. I do that on my boat and it is very easy, even solo.
