@@rileyb3d a tutorial on keeping low-poly quad faces from twisting (without requiring triangulation) would be amazingly helpful. (eg. A girder that turns less than 90 degrees). I'm not sure what the technical term is, but if you go into blender and extrude a face from a cube, then move that face in all 3 axes, some of the faces will be "twisted" - the 4 vertices will not be in the same plane. One face can be fixed by scaling to 0 along the normal, but that will push the other 3 faces out of alignment. Apologies if that's not super clear

This is the way it is done - I see people build the polygonpen models and then claim they "made" it, only revealing where it is from when pressed. They could easily mention it up front(like in this video) but for some reason hide it until they no longer can. It is so weird. There is nothing wrong with learning from others and rebuilding what others have built - but just be up front about it.

I would make the round part without using boolean operations on the cylinder. Just select the area of polygons, make an Inset and apply the Loop Tools -> Circle. It will automatically create the desired topology for the circle and thus we will avoid the tedious adjustment of vertices and redirection of the topology. I’ll also add that if pinching and artifacts occur somewhere, then you can use the Shrinkwrap modifier in the vertex group mode, which will allow you to adjust not the entire object (when it is already ready), but only the part that needs to be changed. Thank you for the video!
@qwafy67404 ай бұрын
although this works sometimes the circle doesnt quite work so I instead just delete the faces inside the area I want the circle to be and join the circle with the mesh then bridge edge loops
@LeoD.J2 ай бұрын
When you were using outset, you mentioned using it because its more even than a loopcut. But, when adding a loop cut, you could hit E for "even" which will match the edgeflow/profile of one of loops on either side of it. Hit F to flip which edge its even with and boom, an even loop cut.

Excellent tutorial! But if i was making it instead of using a booleon and then cleaning up after that I would use a circle a with the same amount of verts as the border then delete the faces inside the border ,merge the circle with the mesh and bridge edgeloops. this cleans up the topology by itself is much faster and cleaner in my opinion

This is such a good tutorial that avoids issues that I see in so many other tutorials. You explain everything, but do it concisely. You’ve obviously done a run through of what you’re explaining to achieve this. And, the pacing is not too fast or too slow. I know how hard it is to make a quality tutorial like this and respect your game. Subbed and will be looking at more of what you’ve made. 🫡

Something often missed when modelling cheap plastic moldings is that they're rarely perfect. Leaving some shading issues in can actually add to realism rather than detract. Obsessing over shading in this instance can be counter productive.
