Another top Video Jimmy. Have recently invested in a decent scan tool and in just a few weeks its saved me hundreds and paid for itself! (Citroen egs gearbox issue) mechanic saying it needed all sorts of very expensive work done. Scanning and research meant i discovered it was the selector at fault and replaced for £100! My throttle body flap was sticking, took the body out & gave it a serious clean, i freed up the flap but have no idea if that actually solves the issue, P006A-00, have no leaks, inlets all good, EGRs all good, replaced & modified the air duct between body & air filter, certainly a pain in the ass

I wish you were in Australia mate!! I just picked up a secondhand Discovery 5 today. Driving it to my mechanics yesterday to get inspected the DPF regen message came up to drive it for 20min. I cleared it and the amber engine light came on. My mechanic read fault codes P264B and P049B. Took it back to the used car dealer and they did something to clear it. Drove it home today and on my third drive of the day the engine light came on again but no DPF message. Going to take it back to them but will check the throttle body first. I’m thinking it’s either that or possibly EGR valves.

A DPF is a simple filter. Can't see how they "break"! My Mondeo had a very smoky regen. Eventually, I discovered the last owner replaced the "faulty" DPF with a generic cheap one. This had the wrong filter material (substrate). Replaced with a used genuine one. Problem solved. The DPF was probably changed because the vaporiser had become blocked (a new one was fitted), which caused the DPF to block. It's crazy because the vaporiser is another simple part that could have been cleaned. The wrong DPF also caused a higher D.P. (differential Pressure) between the upstream and downstream flows into the DPF. This caused the ECU to keep doing regens. I sorted it myself using Forscan to find the issue.

My Mondy likes a smoke during regeneration 🤣, it usually is the vapouriser that causes the issues but I've found using low saps oil and decent high quality fuel and good runs all is well touch wood

@@chucky2316 It still kick out the usual ash "smoke" especially if I'm accelerating hard during a regen. But nothing like the acrid smoke before. This was part burnt diesel, people used to get pretty upset when behind me😮

Has the throttle body not got a build date stamped on it for 2021? I thought I could see it when you were focusing on the part. Anyway if it has, surely he should be able to reclaim the cost of the part if he has a guarantee? Up to the customer to fight it though and some don’t bother, they just let garages throw parts at their vehicles and still they aren’t fixed properly.

A lady friend of mine has just been done, I scanned her vehicle and got egr fault code, she took car for warranty work and they said we need to scan it at a cost of £65, then they said it was the dpf. Now I'm no mechanic but watching this guy leads very to believe the egr would have caused the dpf fault to flag up.

@@tilermanI was like you once but I got fed up being ripped off in garages and getting shoddy work done. For example, the turbo intake pipe failed on my car and the garage charged me two hundred quid to replace it. I found the part later on the internet for twenty five quid and found a you tube video that showed it was a five minute job to replace it. So after that, I said I’d never get ripped off again and I educated myself with the help of videos like Jimmys. Since then I’ve done major work on my car and at it’s annual road worthiness test, the tester complimented me on the excellent condition of my car. So do what I did and learn how to diy.

@@davidmehlhorn726 Nice one! A quick tale of woe from me. My gear changes became really stiff in my van. Took it to 3 garages all said i need a new gearbox, 2 without even looking at it. Through a friend i got the contact number of a young mobile mechanic, explained the problem on the phone and he said he knew exactly the problem. He came over, 10 minutes later, job done. When it rains the guttering on the windscreen cannot take away the water quick enough so pours through the bonnet, in my case on top of the gear box lever ( i think thats what it's called!) seizing it up with rust. He took arm off, wire brushed it, bit of grease, perfection. Asked him how much and he said '£40', to which i replied 'how much', and he replied back 'oh, alright, how about £25'! Silly sod, gave him a £100 as he done me a right favour. Their are good guys out there, you just got to find them and keep them.

I never found one that did everything I wanted, as even the top of the range ones didn't have facilities that others had. But it often comes down to the knowledge of the operator to interpret the information supplied, not just the tech they are using. They often don't tell you exactly what is wrong and you need to think around the problem to get to the cause.

I know the customer wanted this resolved once and for all, but, cant the average home DIY mechanic just clean the throttle body with a bit of brake cleaner??? Wont that do the job. Of course i understand this one did look a bit beat up for a so called new part… the one replaced.. Should TB cleaning form part of regular maintenance

I took mine off my jaguar xf was almost completely filled in same as pipes used screwdriver to scrape most out then diesel soaked rag got back down to the plastic and refitted been fine for another 4 years

@@steveleyland2644 Same on my XF 3-0S. Had RP coming up - first time in six years. Flap was sticking slightly, scraped the edges clean very carefully and sprayed all three MAF sensors with cleaner. Two weeks later did a 2,000+ mile trip to S of France and absolutely fine. Only cost me about £15 for the MAF spray 🙂.

@@spudmurphy764 yeah done the mafs as well and also got wyns dpf cleaner put 50/50 with water in a manual pressure pump and attached some plastic tubing to it and fed into front of dpf pumped it in left for 1/2 hour then started it up foam and shite came out the exhausts £28 will do 3 or 4 cleans. Had it done twice previously both times cost around £150 carbon clean engine lasted 4 days was the throttle body full of gunge and no one had even looked at it. I thought they driving around with vans and gear but not a clue so now I do it myself

I used to have a TV repair shop. The council priced me out of that job when Blair increased to non domestic rates so much it wasn't worth doing it. I've been mobile for 20 years doing auto electrical work. They get nothing now.
