Tesla's are designed to be as cheap to produce is mass numbers as possible. That's the source of all differences. :P
@Cloxxki4 жыл бұрын
Not Mate, but in case he doesn't get to this one, my take: There are just a few similarities. 4 wheels, battery, impractical for moving around a stack of suitcases. Oh, and both get off the line really quick and reach 400 kph. The is an extension from it's mass produced cars. Many parts and architecture will be shared with those. The Rimac is a showcase for Rimac's expertise developing things in-house for others. Nevel level monocoq design, bespoke user interface, all for just 150 examples to be built. The Tesla will be made in the thousands with lower attention to detail. The numbers make it more affordble to the end user but the production line will likely cost more than Rimac's. For now, we don't even know where the Tesla will be built. We don't even know whether the cells for the Tesla are actually in mass production yet. The 200 kWh figure implies they need to do something very, very special. That cost hundreds of millions to acquire/develop, but will benefit all their other car models. Rimac seems to be using slighly more available cells to come to a very impressive 120 kWh in a car said to be under 2,000 kgs. A Porsche Taycan turbo S with around 93 kWh and under 600 kW (less than half Rimac's) weighs in at 2,300 kgs. Oh, and that one costs almost as much as the teased Tesla Roadster. Developed together with Rimac, probably, as Porsche twice bought share in Rimac. I suspect to skip the line. Rimac were fully booked years ago, no time to take on more projects. They could not hire and train people quickly enough to grow that quickly. Demand from unnamed car brands was tremendous. Porsche, despite really knowing their hybrids, needed help. Took Rimac's two-speed gearbox idea, it seems. Something Tesla tried but could not get to work and thus went 1-speed after all. Rimac is a tech company to the automotive industry like Sherlock Holmes is a consulting detective to the police force. The fact that Koenigsegg, the more renowned self-fabricator in the industry, chose to just have Rimac deal with the battery, speaks absolute volumes. Sherlocks like a good challenge. Rimac started building a world shocking hypercar from "zero". Even the original Tesla Roadster was an adoption of an existing Lotus car, known to handle really well. Compare what they did for 8 examples of the Concept One versus Tesla making many original Roadsters. Inside and outside. There are more expensive cars on sale that just have an AMG engine in the back, rear wheel drive only. Rimac works miracles. I actually tried to hire Rimac once for a company of mine. They were too busy :-)
@JRP34 жыл бұрын
@@derbigpr500 That's obviously not true, especially in regards to the Roadster. However Tesla does have the advantage of being able to leverage their mass production of cells and battery packs as well as motors, inverters, and all associated electronics to help lower their costs.

They are doing exceedingly well for ANY tech company, world wide. They so happen to be dominating the R&D, consultancy and series manufacting in BEV tech. Tesla has the sales number of cars. But if Porsche needs help, they call Rimac. Rimac says "we're busy". Porsche asks "what will it take?". Rimac "we might consider a small stock emission. It will be expensive". Porsche: shut up and take my money". VW: now we need help to make an ID.R. Yesterday.

I understand they cool the cells with something like aluminum or silver on the ends of the cylindricals, plus the cells are fully submerged in cooling liquid. Might be wrong. Rimac will be relatively tight-lipped about details as their whole business is selling their expertise to large car manufacturers who have a huge knowledge and skill hiatus in this field. From one man, mate, they have built a company of world renowned experts. They ran out of Croatians with anything like the required skills and started hiring globally.
