Hey Mate! have you considered entering a racing series or developing a hardcore track focus vehicle? Greetings from Spain!
Hi Mate, so nice of you to take questions and give answers ... we all knows your time is gold ;) Of course, as one of those who have been following your work for so many years, I have far too many questions ... About the built-in energy storage (let's call it battery if you wish), - What about a mixed / hybrid solution to take the best of all at any specific time? (Li-Ion / Super-capacitor / Solid-stats / Hydrogen / etc..) - Why build a vehicle around the battery, because the battery will be the first element to die (the motors and chasis could last millions of km) when (depending on the battery capacity and motor power and driving style ) battery will end in about one or two hundreds of thousands of km? I was fortunate enough to asked this question to the battery's chef Enginer at one of Bigger OEM (Producing BEVs) but got round eyes and no answer. And my last question: As a person who had the chance to realize the dream (with the beauty C1), would you support a dreamer to drive a dream to succeed? If I was not aiming for something a little different, I would apply to work with such an inspiring team. Thank you for all that you have done and are doing.

Are you seeing any good R&D from Formula E concerning battery discharge rates, thermal management, and software/power management? Understanding the energy density and thermal issues faced by batteries what are your thoughts on how much potential efficiency gain remains within the integrated system excluding the batteries? Would you be open to discussing some of the magic math :-) that goes into managing discharge/recharge rates.
@waynerussell64014 жыл бұрын
Don't look to Formula E for break throughs in battery tech. None of the players have expertise in that field. Restricting battery supply to only one company guarantees until 2025 no performance increase in that field. Batteries will determine the winners more than any factor and that scares the competitors. As in road vehicles the one who gets the best battery tech will win. At the moment Tesla is clearly the leader for the foreseeable future. Prepare to 'have your mind blown' at their April reveal. www.motorsport.com/formula-e/news/fe-battery-supplier-competition-987025/1382880/
@johnlucian22594 жыл бұрын
My question is focused on the management system not cell chemistry. The IP from a fleet of electric cars when it comes to battery load cycling I am sure is very impressive but the profile I would speculate is somewhat standard and most likely not representative of Formula E racing. But I don't know that is why I am asking.

Super caps aren't needed unless you are using it for storing regen enrgy and need that energy immediately for a boost, so like KERS system, current cells already can discharge very high amounts, I saw a EV dragster hit 170mph in 7.2 seconds and a 0-60 in 1 second by discharging the batteries at a very high rate, no super caps needed.

Well explained. I have a question. Is it possible to have 2 different battery packs in one vehicle? One larger with higher energy density for cruising and another one with higher power density for extreme acceleration. And while cruising, the high power density battery recharges slowly using the energy from the first battery.

The shape of the vehicle, tire size, efficiency of components inside, battery chemistry, wheight of meterials used, and most importantly driver habits, some people can exceed ranges while others under preform depending on where they live and how they drive, currently tesla does the most to save power and get more range, ideas like heating a seat with fluids or using special hub caps in their wheels to reduce drag, stuff like that also helps KM per kwh.
