I started the recent colony really anti slavery, just finishing off people that i didn’t want to recruit. Three days in, i have precise calculations of how much food per distance walked does a prisoner consume, how faster does the caravan becomes when the slaves are sold off, exactly how much food do i need for my one man return journey from the nearest slave buying settlement, and how to adjust these values when the prisoner is, for example, a different type of subhuman, consuming even more food for his even more worthless existence, deserving every second of forced labor and whippings he’ll get from the following years in the malaria town i’m selling him to. I didn’t hurt a single human being so far. My colonists receive best healthcare that money can buy and expedition forces can recover, my actual prisoners live in sterile, clean cells with medical beds, ensuring that they never experience infection and recover at maximum speed, my craftsmen daily work to produce prosthetics of admirable quality, enhancing abilities and removing painful scars and traumas. It’s only those things that have the nerve to call themselves human, thinking that here, on this far away world, their sins are unknown. Fools. They signed their death sentence the second they got unable to clean and haul, or got too exited about chems. I’m sure that they’ll get that idiocy beat out of them real quick, and i can only hope that one day i’ll be the one beating, but for now, all i can do is cramp 8 man into one room with a sterile floor, harvest their kidneys and lungs, then send them hauling cloths and goods for sale across a desert, only to then make them realise they are not just hauling animals, but are themselves goods for sale.

My colony before didn’t really have purpose, it was a whimsical tribe that just lived for the breeze in their hair and the warm food on their bellies. They were a peaceful tribe that lived off the land so efficiently that they provided for all the nearby wildlife. The tribe had been working with megasloths for a year now and the sloths were thought of as majestic creatures until a sloth went mad after a bad training session, then the 5 other megasloths on the map decided to join in for the manhunt. The entire colony was chased down and mauled to death. No one was spared, not even the mysterious man in black that joined as a final hope. Now, my colony now has learned from the folly of their ancestors. Megasloths have now been an enslaved species for the past 2 years and my colony is dedicated to the removal of the total mega sloth population.

Got a cold snap that killed all my plants before winter started and I couldn't grow anymore, survived on hunting and cannibalism, then growing season came, but there was toxic fallout preventing growth, but the it ended, then a volcanic winter started, plants grew slower, then proper winter started again at plants being 50% grown Praise Randy

My brother once lead a colony which a month or two after start was attacked by raiders. Nothing unusual. The show starts when after succesfully repelling this raid we noticed that one of female colonists has big debuffs to her mood. To our suprise we realised that one of the raiders was indeed her mother whom at this point was but a handfull of ashes in the designated mass body burning spot. With time and enough of love from colony members she finally stoped trashing rooms in the compound. Then at the moment while her debuff from witnessing a family member death was still in effect, another raid has formed to loot our colony but this time featuring her father as one of its members. Rimworld is a game for whole family. My brother kinda threw in towel at this point. True story, not kidding.

This is why I use nonlethal defense mechanisms and take raiders prisoner. Prisoners and slaves are more useful than dead bodies, and any family members of my colonists can be enslaved if they're useless or recruited if I actually like them.

An excellent way to train doctors is to have them nuggetize captured raiders and replace all their limbs with cheap wooden prosthetics. This doesn't cause any negative thoughts in colonists, and can even make peace with some factions as they see this as healing+releasing captives. It's also really funny when the nuggetized captives show up again in later raids. UPDATE: In 1.0 Factions will get upset at you for unnecessarily amputating their captured soldiers so if you want to make peace with them don't do this. This doesn't affect the "pirate" factions as they will always hate you so feel free to mutilate them as much as you like.

This is one of the few games I actively followed since years (modded DayZ, Rimworld, Project Zomboid). I wish more games had this depth to it without being an absolute graphic nightmare like dwarf fortress. You can easily spend more than 1k hours in this game on multiple saves, you got alot of sleepless nights ahead of you.

I once built a nice colony. It was prosperous, large and strong. And I got a brilliant idea of moving colony into mountainous area. So I sent half of my people to a chosen place, where they would start digging into mountain and prepare a nice underground bunker colony. Things were going smoothly. They were getting supplies from original colony and everything worked. Soon enough the bunker was ready. It was a huge site with EVERYTHING they could ever need and lifetime supply of Granit and Slate. Thing was built to be virtually impenetrable from outside. Any raiders that would try to get in would either have to dig through dozens of meters, only to hit plasteel wall or go through what I lovingly called "Death Corridor." A narrow passage that led to entrance was filled with traps and turrets. All outer walls were made of plasteel and could withstand pretty much anything. Things were going so well tha I decided to disassamble the previous colony and move everyone to new bunker. Once done, everyone was happy. But then... I learnt of the terrible evil Randy was preparing for me. The evil... called infestation. 45 hives spawned all over the freaking bunker. My people had to flee outside with no food, tools and only armed with weapons they already had. Now... the Death Corridor serves as the only thing still keeping bugs inside and my people safe. DAMN YOU RANDYYYY!!!!

So I had a colony of five people going fairly well, the colony consisted of a brute body guard that could shoot like John Wayne, a dead eye doctor that took zero shit, a nervous game designer that stepped in when he needed to, an alcoholic woman who could build like nobody else in the galaxy and her father... who was just kind of there. I began expanding my house into a large rock formation and found a cryo pod. Surprised, I began mining around it and found more. Six in total. I didn’t want to open them just yet just in case shit went badly (Not knowing who was in them.) I build my home around this section of cryo pods until eventually the time come where I chose to open them. As I did, they all popped open and six dudes armed to the teeth jump out and start firing at everyone. People get injured and I decide to set a caravan to escape. Everyone but the alcoholic and her father attempt to leave, the ones that stayed behind fought them off so the rest could escape, her father was shot in the head and instantly killed. The woman went into a rage and took down two of the enemies but eventually collapsed due to pain next to her dead father. As she lay there next to her dead Dad, the house was burning down around them and the enemies destroyed all of my possessions and progress. She eventually died but the rest of the group settled somewhere else towards the east. Best fucking game I’ve played in a while.

Thanks to this game and some amazing mods for it (EPOE and Questionable Ethics) I have a colony full of god-like enhanced super humans being tended to by a group of nerve stapled, barely functioning former humans that have had their organs and limbs replaced with makeshift prosthetics. The colonists create art, research new technologies, and generally just enjoy their days. The drones clean, mine, and do all other forms of heavy lifting. If a drone breaks down, it is stripped of parts and processed into nutrient paste for the other drones while its parts are installed into a prisoner that is ready for processing. Thanks Sseth. This game is fucking great.

The first time i played Rimworld one of my starting pawns was a drug addict by default, so she constantly was in a bad mood. Then she married of my colonists and saved his life when he was attacked by a mad ram when hunting. Then he broke up with her and she had a major breakdown because of that and started destroying her bedroom. When the breakdown was over, she was in a bad mood because her bedroom was empty and dirty(which was her own fault) and because of that she had another breakdown and began wandering around blindly, while wandering she walked into a cave full of insectoids and got murdered. 10/10

Recently, I had my left arm torn off when a manhunting boomrat exploded in my face, after poking it too hard with my sandstone shiv. I was quite hungry aftet that, so I ate the still burning corpse of the boomrat and was enraged by the discovery I hadn't eaten it at the table. I killed my gay lover, stripped him naked and took his alpaca wool pants of good quality. I will bleed out in 3.2 hours because I failed to apply any and all the bandages on my missing hand and face, due to pain making me clumsy as well as lacking some body parts useful utilizing my non existent medical skills. But now knowing that Sseth has uploaded a new video, I can finally relax socially, while occasionally checking out the nice forest fire surrounding our wooden settlement, which I, as a pyromaniac, don't see any reason to limit in growth.

Actually, dementia is a category of brain diseases and defects - all physiological in nature - with psychological, behavioral and cognitive implications. So, if someone's brain has "dementia", it's not technically unscathed... nor does it make sense for the game to state so. I think it would be much more accurate if someone with dementia were attributed a score of 9 or lower for brain health.

@K4nler Actually what I found more useful is to establish a colony of two classes. The right prisoners skill/trait wise get socially manipulated into joining the colony but don't have much rights, good rooms or privilege for good protection/weaponry. They work endless shiftes on rudimentary tasks (like weavering clothes out of human leather or producing drugs to sell) until they freak and get put down by the higher class guards and then get processed too. Im german btw.

Your review made me install and play Rimworld, and now after a good hundred hours into the game I have to ask. What kind of unholy abomination is your base. Before playing the game I though your base looked good and interesting but now, I must admit that it gives me anxiety. How can you even play and look at that thing. Truly, your colony is made solely of psychopats, otherwise its not the atrocities commited but the base layout that would drive them insane. i had a very successful and large boomalope farm. milking them for fuel. i stored all this fuel for later sale. and i had my extremely large herd of boomalopes sleeping outside in large grazing fields near my base, they all slept one peaceful night outside all bundled up close together against my wooden base. when suddenly. Lighting strike. Right in the middle of the giant herd. Panic, Crying out in pain boomalopes, then fire, and explosions. So many explosions. My base was showered in fire and boomalope parts and before i had the slightest chance to do anything about the now gigantic sea of fire that covered one side of my entire base (and the grazing fields) the fire spread inwardly through my wooden walls and reached the store of fuel. i never quite recovered from that and decided this was the best way to leave that game.

I remembered the one time when one of my colonists had a really bad back pain where his spine just disappeared from a recent bot skirmish He was on the hospital bed for one and a half full years, where most the time I was trying to research spine parts, and making all the components. All that time as he keeps falling off of his bed. After giving him a new spine, what did he do? He tried to burn my base down cuz he's a pyromaniac, and my colony stole his spine, and straight banish him. Rimworld, baby

Rimworld is such a great game You can have vastly different stories be created from each gameplay, they don't all end well. I remember this tundra colony I was making. It started off smoothly or well as smoothly as it can on rimworld and managed to start off my base. Around a week or so later got some new companions and it helped a bunch in developing the base we hadn't hit anything rocky yet so we were going a bit slow and lax in our defenses. A week or so later just before winter starts wouldn't you know it randy random had something great planned for us. He had decided to hit us with a toxic fallout that killed all our crops and because I only just started on building the hydroponics we barely survived. Right after that, bang a raid, I didn't know about kill boxes yet so I tried to defend my little inbuilt hill/mountain base and survived but with lots of wounds and some destroyed walls. For the final kicker, winter set in, well if you didn't know tundras get pretty cold and with our turn of luck all of our cold clothing was in tatters, there were holes in our base and we had no food. Despite this, we managed to survive for a day on killing animals that wandered by, and well at the end of that day everyone suffered from hypothermia, broken mental states, vast permanent wounds, and were starving. It wasn't a great run, but I enjoyed it. Reminded me a little of Metro: Exodus helped me learn how to survive on cold climates better as well.

Played with mods that improved surgery and organ harvesting, and a vampire mod. Got some prisoners from a raid. Took their arms and legs, eyes and ears, and left them in the dark as not to waste electricity on them. Then I used them as living blood bags. Vampires got happy from good amount of blood, and I found a way to keep people happy with nutrient paste. My only wish is that I could have automated the nutrient paste dispenser so it fed the prisoners automatically while they floated in their own piss and shit. Rimworld. What a magical game.

What concerns you is the raging fire filling the room. You and your comrades turn back as they start to suspect what is going on, not having expected this level of cruelty from the "refined" outlanders. You flee back through the tunnel, only to find it blocked with rubble. Horrible realisation sets in. Panic, naturally, follows shortly. You and your comrades are screaming and clawing at the walls now, vainly hoping to break through, begging for mercy from the outlanders. The air is now so hot you can see your skin beginning to crisp and blacken as you pray to the Gods for rescue, mercy, death, anything. Your fellow warriors begin to fall around you, burnt beyond recognition save for one feature - the agonising pain inscribed on their faces in their final wails of death. At last you fall, your eyes melting in your sockets and your brain boiling in your skull. At last you succumb to death's merciful embrace. Your final thoughts are regret, and wishing you had never become tangled in this state of affairs. If only you'd stayed at home and tended to the muffalo herds. Too late to change that now. A long overdue death reaches you and you are swept away from your body to the next life, assuming one exists.
