Good review. You are the first one to actually talk about the loss of connectivity after a couple of hours and not having a built-in battery. I think this is a major flaw. Plus look at the Amazon reviews there's a majority of complaints about battery and connectivity issue. Thanks for a real review

Yea I don't know why they didn't include a rechargable battery that would charge while you're driving to assist with the standby/gaurd mode run length.

I had pre-ordered it from Amazon and I canceled a few days ago from all the bad reviews and negative feedback. That’s too bad, I really wanted it to be good.

It seems they updated the firmware at least once. The standby run time when you park your car that was very short before seems to be lasting longer now. The video quality isn't that good though and they still haven't made a way to highlight a clip during a drive.

Good review. Just installed mine last night, easy install (f150). The real issue for me is the no battery/short guard. Wasn't able to remote connect this morning. Total bs for a camera this expensive.

Some people are having this problem with the camera staying on when the vehicle is off and some aren't i dont get it,mine stayed on for about 4 hours after i parked yesterday,then last night it stayed on for about an hour after i parked

I bought this same dash cam and it recording everything from time I started driving not 20 seconds it keep recording till I stop driving and stop for motion detection work fine You need more training using ring cameras My only complaining is 1080p not clear enough

Yes you genius it records the whole time but only lets u pull 20 seconds clips to download. If you watched the video you can see I was trying to pull a certain 20 second clip and it kept downloading a different time.

@@hj6037 the playback is only 720 p not 1080p so if u want to get details like license plates you would need to download the clip. It should work properly b4 they release it.

What I like about the Ring is that Im allowed to view inside and outside of my car when I'm not near my car. But the resolution sucks! Harder to read license plates. I think they did this on purpose. The new generations will have better cameras, and we're stuck with a low-resolution camera that costed us over $200!

I’ve been using the camera for almost a month now and your spot on, in my case there were more issues on top of the video quality is complete garbage especially while driving. Definitely not worth the purchase.

Wow, oh my God that’s such a close calls. You should a video on how you’re thankful to just be alive. Wow you really dodged a bullet. That happened to me when I was in my 20s on a motorcycle. Good thing you were paying attention. I wonder what the heck was that guy doing? He should have his license removed. I haven’t had that issue that you’re having so far although I do live in a area with really good cell coverage. I am aware that if it’s stored locally on the device which most of them are that the dash cam would have to be online for me to play the videos but I haven’t seen what you experienced yet. Maybe I should pay more attention to the timestamps. I do know that if you say to record for the traffic stop that it’ll record 20 minutes and apparently you can download the whole 20 minutes from what I understand. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve read reviews, I did do a traffic stop and I was at the post office today and it recorded the 20 minutes. I guess I’ll have to try to see if I can download the whole 20 minutes of the traffic stop. It’s brand new and they’re going to do some firmware updates and software updates so I kind of would expect this on a brand new release of a new product so I’m just gonna personally hang tight as this is my first dash cam ever and it’s already set up and I’m already in the ecosystem with my doorbell so I’m gonna see what happens, thanks for your great review and take care

I have it in low mode now and it's still turning off pretty fast. How long does yours last in low mode with out any driving?

I just got mine today and I drive a 22 sienna and I notice when I turned off the car and no more than 30mins it turned off. I also notice I couldn't get it any notification when I hit the windshield or pull the door handle also. Only time I got a notification is when I'm in the car, not only that I'm pretty disappointed how it doesn't start recording when somebody walks in front of the car. I'm giving it a month before I put up my garmin 67w dash cam

@@LIVING_THE_DREAM210 I played around with it some more I put it battery usage on max and it was able to stay on from 9am-7pm and drive home 8pm-8am. Notification wise I was able to get it to work but the downfall is it only sends notifications when somebody bumps into the car or it’s raining hard. Kinda sucks that it doesn’t detect people walking in front of the car… quality wise not so great with the front license plate while driving or at a stop

So it is $60/yr., not per month. LTE only on the road for obvious reasons, no Wi-Fi out on the open road. At home it will connect to your wifi, if you have even a decent wireless router. My clips have downloaded exactly the way I asked them to, right at the time that I chose. We all knew going in that it did not have an SD card slot, and with the ring app why would you need an SD card? You cannot blame poor Cellular signal on the camera, it will record without LTE. Last thing, the car cam is powered by the OBD port, not just while you are driving, all the time. You saw the option to change the battery saving setting at setup. I saw it twice, setting up both of my car cams.

Yes the subscription is cheap. But how long it stays on is a definite let down. I just drove to work today at 1030 am and the camera shut off already about 2 hrs ago. This is in low battery mode use also. My car battery is only 2 years old. I am going to make another video later this week testing the clip time stamps because I have been getting different time stamps on my videos from what the ring app is showing me for the same clip. Also I will test how much power is being drawn by the ring camera in the different battery modes. Ring also needs to release an update that allows a phrase to be spoken to capture a clip and separate it from the overall drive clip. As of now the only option is the "Alexa record" which records way to long of a clip and is supposed to be used for car stops.

Besides the high subscription price I like the owl cam the most. Has good video, gaurd mode lasts several days without car use and the ease of capturing a clip by saying okay presto is a good bonus.

Saying “Alexa record” will save a 20 minute video, for an incident. Not sure if anyone covered this. Read the manual folks.

Like I said on the video they kind of all have problems. But my favorite out fo the ones I've had is the owl cam it just stinks that it's 20 a month if you want the remote connectivity.

You should look up garmin live cam it’s the newest one with lte. I own a garmin 67w also with my ring cam and I use both sadly

You can literally go to other videos of people reviewing this and see it picking up license plates. I would like to point out that different lighting situations day or night even 4k cameras have issues now and then. Ask me because I know. Also once you have downloaded the original footage the image is much clearer then the compressed footage.

Now, Owlcam is not reliable, expensive for the monthly fee ($20 per month per cam) HORRIBLE customer service ... The cam hardly ever works. I'd rather have this Ring car cam over the Owlcam any day.

It’s a dumb setup to begin with lol. A suction cup and bracket to hold it would have been better like many other cameras. This design I have no idea why they would go with it. Wedge it into the dashboard etc etc lol. Come on. I’m tired of the adhesive tape too. Suction cups are way better for these camera setups. I have ring security cameras and I love the ecosystem of ring app. This dash cam is a swing and a miss. I wish they made battery only dash cameras. I don’t need to plug into a power source. I don’t travel far when I drive. I’m having issues with my current dash cam popping fuses in the car using the cigarette light plug. I rather have a battery operated dash cam. Does anyone know if they make one that is solely operating on just a battery? No plugs. Or is go pro cameras the only option for me??

I think all the cameras have to be plugged into some sort of power. Wether it be the obd port, a USB outlet or the cigarette lighter.

@@Catman1798 I used to use a GoPro back on the day as a dash cam. But they overheat if u run them to long and the batteries drain pretty fast. Also u have to remember to start recording at the beginning of every drive.

Suction cups are janky and cheap. I have multiple products that have suction cups and they fall off every single day in hot weather. However it's not near as bad as you make it out to be. I would have liked to have seen options to mount it from top of the windshield down. Instead of up also. Some windshields pitch are different then others. I would also like to see them add a rear camera as well as the duel dash cam.

Sorry, guy, you shouldn’t be reviewing a camera within a couple of days. It takes longer to understand what you’re doing. If the camera is dying, you have a problem with your car battery. All the other issues appear to be user error, you should really understand the product before making a video. Your review is like a majority of Amazon reviewers. They typically don’t read directions, or don’t understand directions. You should post after reviewing for more than one or two days.

Right, so I showed the time stamp on the video I wanted. It showed on the download clip prompt. Then it downloads a totally different clip with an incorrect timestamp but that's my fault? Lol. I'm actually going to go buy a brand new battery tomorrow and do a test to see how long it stays in gaurd mode. The funny thing is I replaced it with the owl cam and that would stay in gaurd mode for at least 3 days no problem with my car and the same batter that the ring camera is hooked up to. I would like for you to explain how it's operator error when I still can't get the clip from that incident. Clearly there is something wrong with the footage and the way they need the clips to be changed form hevc to h.264 to allow u to download it to ur phone. I even drove for 80 minutes today into the city and back and 4 hours later it's showing it as turned off already. I'm going to go outside and test my battery right now with a multi meter and see how "dead" it is according to the ring.

Just checked my battery 12.5 volts. I wonder what the parameter to kill the ring is. 12.5 is 90% capacity for a car battery.

@@WillieWalnuts 12.5 is your voltage. Not capacity. A car battery can be 60% and still put out 12v lol. And yeah this is new and I suspect bugs. I would also like to point out that using the OBD port different auto manufacturers systems may or may not have an effect on the accuracy of the battery systems of your vehicle. I believe that is why some have issues while some don't. A lot of what you complained about is clear from the documentation I read prior to ordering so I knew some of these things before I ordered. I have owned a ton of dash cams and this is still far better then most. I agree with the other guy. Give it time to work out the bugs before you throw tantrums.

Amazon is a trillion dollar company you would think they could have put out a top tier product with little to no issues. The only benefit this camera has oveer the owl cam is the low subscription price. Besides that the owl cam is better in almost every aspect.

You mean owlcam that has a useless screen you can't even view? You have eyes. What's the point of the screen? The screen is tiny. All the dash cams I have owned not once have I ever used the screen to view footage. SD cards. So when someone steals your camera they have your footage too. If everything works as it's supposed to there is no need for an SD card or a screen. And it's like $400 no thanks. If for some reason I start experiencing bugs I'll wait for an update. I still think so far it's the best option out there.
