Muscle building gymnastics ring workout with beginner to advanced progressions so you can train with your partner. This workout contains progressions for those who are new to ring training and those who are further along in their journey. I absolutely love doing this ring workout with a friend as it helps to give you proper rest time and makes it a lot more fun!

General warm up, get the body moving, do some stick shoulder dislocates, pancake, lateral lunges and wrist push ups. Or do my follow along warm up: • Handstand Warm Up Routine
0:00 Intro to the workout
1:09 Skin the cats, no pauses, smooth. Perform a pike position through the transition - legs straight, knees together, keep arms straight, thumbs out.
1st Superset 1:49
German hang, end range - hold 3 seconds short of failure
Hollow body leg lifts
2nd Superset 2:39
Ring Support Hold or Rings Turned Out - Isometric
Scap Pulls
3rd Superset 3:48
Ring Push Ups: Biggest range of motion possible (as low as possible) try to complete with a supinated grip for an advanced version. Use negatives if just learning.
Ring Rows - Reset the scap on the bottom position each time, perform a one second hold at the top, to make harder use a false grip
4th Superset 5:32
Ring Dips (feet assisted when needed)
False Grip Chin Ups/Active Hang
7:03 False Grip Muscle Up Transitions: keep the rings tight to the shoulders, 2 reps short of failure, perform quickly
7:30 L Sit on Floor - isometric hold

I sucked at pike pushups but after watching your video on how you learned pull ups yesterday I did gtg on pike pushups and in just one day I've seriously improved! Thanks so much!

I've been trying to increase my pike push ups as well! As of last week I've added in pick push ups - EMOM (every minute on the minute) 10 reps, every minute for 10 minutes. It kills. By then end I will just do negatives, on my knees. If you're hoping your pike push up will translate to handstand push ups make sure your elbow stays ontop of your wrist (makes it sooo hard, but translates better to HSPU). I use a yoga block an inch away from my forearm to ensure I keep them stacked.

Are the rings you are using the same as the ones you recommend in the description box? Are they 1.1inch in thickness? Thank you.

I picked mine up at a local shop - just the standard size. I added the link to Thenx's rings incase people wanted to order some while supporting a calisthenics brand! I prefer the wood ones, just standard ones are fine. If you buy cheap ones you might have issues with splintering but you can always tape the handles.

How is an L-sit a pull movement? Aren't you using your pec minor to push downwards?

You can certainly use it for some things! But some of the exercises will require the rings/handles to twist. You won't get the same range of motion out of the TRX handles. Give it a go and see what you like :) I'd imagine the skin the cats would be very hard to do since the TRX hangs from a conjoined point above you, rather then the spaced apart nature of the rings.

big chance of injury if you do this as a beginner and even more if you are not that young. with rings go slow so all the small mussels get trained first.

Yeah ,you are right Im only 62 and doing all what you see in this video and much more . Only injuries I got from playing football for 30 years but not from calesthenics . Obviously beginers have to start slowly and build up strenght gradualy

of course! If you can't do a row or a push up start with training basic exercises NOT on rings. Just work on your push ups against a wall, or perform holds, or decrease the volume of work - IE do 2 of the warm up exercises as your workout instead of doing the full work we did. Or perform negatives of the movement, or perform less reps, or watch my video on how to progress in calisthenics so you have an idea of how to modify an exercise. If you watch the video you will see modifications such as: instead of doing pull ups just hang from the rings, if you can't hang from the rings then I'd suggest working on basic strength training to increase your muscle endurance before incorporating rings into your workout. I'd assume there'd be ways for you to hang on the rings, perform assisted rows, work on shoulder mobility...etc. But of course decreasing the work load and the amount of exercises can certainly be done to make it easier.

Skin the cat is playground move when I was 12 year old on monkey bars 😂😂 You can allways do other things and work you way up to more dificult moves
