I just received a Savage BTV just like yours. I thought about getting a Mark II for over a year. I'm glad I did. MOAs at 50 are not coming like I hoped. I have tried several lower cost ammo, so I am not disappointed. The trigger was surprisingly good. I put an Arken LH4 6-24 on it. It is a fun gun, and I am looking forward to finding what it wants to shoot. Looking forward to seeing more videos on your Savage. Thanks for all your videos.

Check all your optic mount points (including rail), then ensure your action screw torque is within manufacturer recommendation values. Also there's a technique out there called "torque tuning". It has more influence with rimfires than centerfires.

I just got the mkii fvsr for Christmas. I coated the bolt with Flitz metal polish and worked it for several minutes. Cleaned it up and lubed it. Very smooth now. I cut 2 1/2 coils off my trigger spring. Be sure to bend the open coil end down to prevent it from digging into the upper receiver when you adjust it. I got my pull weight down to 12 ounces but dialed it back up to 16 ounces. It’s a very good trigger. With proper bedding and torque you can make that thing shoot phenomenal.

Great video!👍🏽 Not too bad considering the ammo and the wind. As for the bolt, it will get smother as you use it, I used JB Weld soft polishing compound to help it get smoother faster. I have used it on all my bolts that have rough finish or tooling machine marks. Also I noticed that the rounds with over 1000FPS opened up the groups size. Thanks for the video.

I have been tossing the idea around to buy one of these. I would like to see you shoot some SK ammo with it and perhaps some Midas+. The groups in this video don't discourage me,,,, CCI SV don't shoot well in either of my current guns. CCI Blazer does well in my custom Enfield so perhaps it would be worth a try. Also, I have been surprised how well S&B Canadian Match shoots. I enjoy your videos.

@@mikewilliams719 I ordered two of their 10 round magazines. They are made very well. I did have to disassemble them and smooth the edges of the follower though. They were hard to load and one wouldn’t hold but 9 rounds. The coating they put on them is too porous and I applied silicone spray to them several times and let it dry. They work well now. I recommend them but they may need some fine tuning to get them to work properly. After they break in they are fine.

When you feed a round into the chamber remove the magazine and check the top round in magazine for deformation/shaving. Savages are notoriously sharp on the bottom leading edge of the bolt. Use a small diamond file and radius the leading edge until it’s not causing damage to your rounds.

A little glass bedding, and that horrid POI shift will be minimized. A good Savage MK1 or MKII will bughole most ammos, including the ones you were testing. Follow the advice left by others here, about clipping the trigger spring, polishing up the bolt, and better glass, and you'll be golden...

I assure you that the action will be very smooth after it breaks in. I actually took any burrs off mine with diamond files. The Flitz polish is great. I use it to improve my triggers and actions in all my guns. WD40 specialist is great too. It’s a silicone spray that dries and leaves a slick protective layer on all treated surfaces. Works great and especially for making magazines feed smooth and reliably. Just wipe off the excess.

I have a mark2 TR and a BOYD tactical stock. Shot just like yours, 1 st thing I did was get the MDT ORYX stock and do torque tuning on stock, 40inch pounds worked the best using CCI standard. Groups got better but I wasn’t satisfied. Tried all kinds of low to mid priced brands ammo.so I bought an inexpensive tunner off of eBay for $70.00 and with CCI Standard tunned it to consistently shoot .2 to .3 groups occasionally shooting 5 rounds in one. So gun was $450.00 arken 4SJ Gen ll 12-24x50 $323.00 MDP Oryx chassis $329.00 $ 70.00 for budget entry level precision rifle. Now I’m upgrading, just ordered a tika t1x and moving up to mid level precision rifle.

Thanks for braving the cold to shoot the Savage MKII BTV. For the cost and performance, I wonder if spending a few dollars more, the cheapest CZ457 would have been a equal or better performer with CCI SV ammo. Will you keep this rifle as is and not do any aftermarket improvements (eventually and over time)? As you said, the action and bolt are pretty rough (can see that on the video!) and wonder if the bolt could be polished and smoothed out. I know that on the CZ, the laser etched serial number is pretty "abrasive" and can be stoned down smooth and the contact surfaces can be polished (with dremel makes short work) to make that slick. The specs on the Savage says the trigger weight is from 2.5 lbs (min) to 6 lbs (max) so I wonder if it can be "adjusted" to the lightest weight to help with accuracy. It's funny how good glass (scope) can be priced easily 2x to 5x over the cost of a rifle (at base cost or even with all aftermarket upgrades) but with 22LR, it has higher demand for glass and reticle performance than say centerfire due to the tiny slow bullet it slings to be able to spot your shots and for chasing the precision we want to strangle out of our 22LR equipment! I have to say sir, you spoiled us with the December 31 videos in 31 days!!! That was a great series and hope you consider doing that again maybe in the spring or summer (better weather helps!) for say 2x a year? Even if you do short videos on gear review, talk about what you have done to a given rifle or review of performance over distances with a given rifle and ammo type and what you thought was the best combination for your setup would be informative.

Cut two and a half coils off your trigger spring. Be sure to bend the open coil end inward towards the center of the coil to prevent it from digging into the receiver when you adjust your spring. I did this to my FV-SR and my pull weight is 12 ounces. I actually adjusted back up to 16 ounces because it was a little too light for my numb fingers.

@@BROTUNED it makes it a very good trigger for a budget rifle. No take up or creep at all. If you wiggle the trigger when it’s that light it will drop off the seat but won’t release the firing pin. Just cycle the bolt up and down to reset it. Savage put that function in there as a safety feature. You can also remove the trigger safety and spring. You will still have the thumb safety but if you aren’t using it for hunting it really doesn’t matter that you remove it. Most rifles don’t have it anyway. It’s actually for handguns.

@@JonFox-t5x Thank`s for the tipp. I am acrually a bit surprised, that there are no aftermarket trigger springs. I asked Savage if the springs from the Savage B22 Precision would fit, since that trigger is way lighter then on the Accu Trigger on the MKII. But said they wouldn`t fit. Other options would be to drill the hole where the trigger spring sits in a bit deeper, but I am not real friend of altering triggers like that. Cutting off coils is a way, but it seems to be hard to get replacement springs here in Germany
@JonFox-t5x
@JonFox-t5x 6 күн бұрын
@ clip a little at a time and test it. Clipping two and a half coils still leaves plenty of adjustment to increase the weight if you aren’t happy with it. There will still be enough adjustment to keep it safe. Clip it with small sharp cutters and be sure to bend it down inside the coil at the end where you clip it off. If you don’t it will bind by digging into the reciever when you try to adjust it. I do believe the spring for the B series will work. They just tell people that for legal reasons. However, if you follow the guidelines I’m listing here you won’t have any problems. Be careful not to distort your spring when modifying it. If you do just place a punch inside it that fits tightly and reform it with some small pliers.
