Great video, that’s a lot of work. In my humble opinion sorting match ammo is not necessary. Groups are very close. Thanks for all the work keep them coming. 👍🏽👍🏽

I'm glad you did this test, the result speaks for itself. I think the ammunition doesn't like the cold, have you thought about trying with Biathlon because it is ammunition made for shooting in the cold. I noticed that groups are always better in the summer.

I will be trying that soon but I want to wait until it gets cold out. Mid winter should get down to -20 degrees and now it’s only -2 to -5

I have started weighing my rimefire ammo in oz 0.0000 scale i think it's a good start I have sorted about 2000 rounds in various brand, cci blazer .40gr that my son shot while I was spotting for him he did very well on a 100yards I think I weeded out some flyers also I have my chrono reads lot closer then before , this coming Sunday going to test more brand aguila target, norma match, federal target all these are .40gr. Will update you guys I will have my chrono pdf to share .

If quality control is anything like where I worked then the initial start of a production run will consist of a lot of measuring and adjusting until the ‘target specifications’ are established… production upto that point will be designated a lesser quality thereafter switching to consistent product ( higher spec )
@MnShootingSports7 күн бұрын
Good stuff Ryan, as soon as you shot that 5th round I knew this was going to be a tough target to measure up, too much wind at that distance on that particular day IMO. Keep up the good work.

FYI you can take a compressor quick adapter fitting and use that as a Thickness gauge. 22LR fits perfect in it and the top section with thread in you just cut small slot so it can fit on your caliper.

When I sort by rim thickness I then sort those by weight. And then it only makes a difference on really accurate ammo to start with. At least that has been my results.
@stevenlee27807 күн бұрын
I think when you sort by both variables, you are now grouping the ammo in the best way possible that is available to you. Now, the question is: What is that time to do the sorting costing you and can it be offset by buying more expensive (hopefully better/higher premium) ammo? Some people like sorting, not because they feel it will be that much better, but its cathartic in activity. Good comment!

Thanks for the info 👍I have better results from weighing my ammo, but finding the rim thickness that suits your rifle without the need for shims is a good start 👌

I appreciate the effort. I think it is a good learning experience. I did it myself twice with 2 bricks of CCISV. I also read a great test done my a guy who actually took apart each round and measure the power, case...and removed the priming compound..measured everything in an attempt to find the variable. He (and I) found that sorting is not worth it. But it is still worth doing yourself if you ask me
@BROTUNED7 күн бұрын
Ya why not now I know for a fact and I may still try cci sv but I’m sure now it makes basically no difference

@BROTUNED The guy who did the major test I mentioned...he pointed to the lead projectiles themselves. Small, but sometimes large, often barely noticeable to the naked eye dings, scraps, imperfections on the nose and drive bands of the bullet. Furthermore once he disassembled all those rounds and looked at the base of the bullet (part in the case) also has imperfections...yes a total rabbit hole..

I think you’re dealing with too many variables to have accurate results. I personally didn’t notice any difference between sorted and unsorted SK ammo, but I don’t shoot past 100 yards.
@misterlewgee88747 күн бұрын
What variables are you thinking of?
@alexandersakharov19087 күн бұрын
@@misterlewgee8874wind, cold, snow, shooter’s hands getting cold to name a few.
@CountryRimfire6 күн бұрын
@alexandersakharov1908 let's not forget lead weight, powder weight, primer weight, and brass weight. None of which you can weigh or control in 22lr 😉 Making it literally impossible for this to work even in a controlled environment 🙃 😊
@misterlewgee88747 күн бұрын
Instead of buying the rim thickness kit....i used the Hornady comparator adaptor / holder...and a 6mm/24 bullet comparator. Marked 3-24. You will need to carefully drill out an internal recess inside the adaptor body to accompany the nose the the 22rf projectile.
@stevenlee27807 күн бұрын
I think shooting out to 200 yards to help "see" the spread is the best way to demonstrate if there is a difference in this experiment. The downside is, dealing with the wind variable (even if it is a constant wind, it is still affecting the bullet flight at that distance by some degree). Your first shot was cold bore and no fouling, so you know that you should not have adjusted elevated at that point (you commented on shots 2-4 to see how it grouped before adjusting again). Thanks for doing this. I am really surprised at the measurements you got for SK LRM rim thickness (0.038 - 0.040"). Do you know what your headspace is for that rifle for this event?
@TheSaintsAdvantage7 күн бұрын
@stevenlee2780 "by some degree" i think that understates the winds effects at 200 yards.
@stevenlee27807 күн бұрын
@@TheSaintsAdvantage just remember that a 1 degree deviation at 200 yards is roughly around 3.5 inches off target.

Question, since you are in Canada.. why do you have the ranges in feet? I tought Canada uses Metric measuring? Or is it because the people „south of Canada“ can‘t handle metric? 😊
@BROTUNED6 күн бұрын
I’ve always use feet per second, inches and so on most people here do also. I never seen or heard anyone talking about m/s but I have seen meters used for distance. I just prefer to speak the same language as the rest of the shooting community on this continent. It’s like mils and more everyone talks mils as far as optic adjustments go so it’s just easier

I think 200m in a way would be a better distance to sample but would prefer better conditions so wind influence didn't dominate the result. One thing for sure there's no down side other than time to rim and weight sort only the chance of greater consistancy.Would have expected a better result for the sorted give all the same rim thickness
@TheSaintsAdvantage7 күн бұрын
@vicgarrett 200m for rimefire is WAY too far IMO for "Precision testing" at least outdoors anyway.
@stephencarran76507 күн бұрын
I think there's too many confounding issues here to be able to read much into the result. The cold, the wind, and I also wonder if working the bolt so quickly and forcefully that you might end up distorting some of the projectiles eg. slight shavings, as well as not taking enough time with sighting and trigger control. The overall accuracy of the ammo/rifle combination didn't seem that good even for 200m. What's the baseline for accuracy say on a warm, still day for that combo?
@pitts32197 күн бұрын
If you want to improve your groups, lot test your ammunition
@IoT_Me7 күн бұрын
I suspect the results or atleast the difference between the two is too close with the amount of varibales you have while shooting. The wind alone, even if it looks constant speed it might not be constant direction, these will effect each shot slightly. What I think is valuable to say from this is, the improvement even if just marginal is fraction of the total sum of all varibales, static (gun, speed, barrel) and dynamic ( temp, wind, direction, shooter) and that rim sorting is the least of a shooter challenges

First, it way too cold to test summer time ammo. Second, you are shooting way too fast for groups. Again, this is worm weather ammo. For a day like this you need Biathlon ammo. This was a total waste. And please,,,, SLOW DOWN.
@JeffP-z6y7 күн бұрын
There’s no summer ammo an winter ammo yes there is biathlon ammo for when you need extra power to knock down steel targets in the winter time but for instance my lapua polar biathlon shoots even slower then my “summer ammo” most biathlon ammo is made for easier chambering.. all ammo’s can be used in the winter time they just slow down a bit is all.. an also sometimes you need to shoot a little faster to duplicate the last shots conditions if someone’s comfortable doing it so be it. Good lord stop barking orders like your an authority or jeesh
