It's really something to me that someone as humble as he is was part of something as big The Beatles. You'd think by now he'd have a massive ego and would just be totally over the whole thing, but he's just as sweet and free spirited as he was back then.
@sarahlazzarotto42749 жыл бұрын
I think it helped that there was barely any social media (twitter, instagram, etc). When he got to interact with fans, it was in person. The most media coverage was the radio or a slot on television. nowadays, "celebrities" get thousands of 'likes' on a photo and it can easily inflate an ego. He was also big in a time where it was the coolest thing to be humble and love everyone. "all you need is love".
@violetsnotviolence9 жыл бұрын
Sarah English Very true. Nothing is off limits now, and it puts a performer in the spotlight 24/7. That kind of attention can be addictive I think. Also, I think that the fact that the time period musically was so different has something to do with it. You had to have a talent of some sort to stand out plus you had to work your ass off to get the public's attention. Now it's who looks the hottest in a stage costume or who has the biggest following on Twitter.
@sarahlazzarotto42749 жыл бұрын
violetsnotviolence I agree. also, I hate that all the little Justin Bieber fans think he's way bigger than the Beatles. The fact that the Beatles were known worldwide without the use of twitter and facebook is HUGE and they don't even realize because they've never lived in a world where this amount of social media didn't exist. It's sad really. The Beatles paved the way for modern artists. I got to watch the 50th anniversary of The Beatles on Ed Sullivan with my parents (they remember watching it 50 years ago) and I cried. The Beatles mean the world to me.

I remember his older son (Julian) saying John was the reason he never wanted to be a father, can you imagine that? Some interesting facts about Ringo.... •Ringo's favorite animals are frogs and cats. •During his time in the Beatles, Ringo would often tune his drum set differently for every song so it can be hard to replicate it. •Ringo sold his 1964 Ludwig Super Classic Black Oyster Pearl drum set for $2.2 million in 2015. He used this drum set for albums, Help and Rubber Soul. •During the White Album sessions in 1968, John Lennon gifted Ringo with his Rickenbacker 325c64 1996 Rose Morris. Ringo sold this guitar at an auction for $800,000 in 2015. •It is rumored that George gifted Ringo his 1963 Gretsch G6119 Tennessee Rose. But the story is the guitar was stolen from an EMI closet in 1968 and never seen again. •Ringo often preferred to sing Boys instead of Act Naturally due to his limited voice range. •In 1968, Ringo walked off during the White Album sessions due to arguing. When he came back, The Beatles covered his drum set in flowers as a welcome back gift. •Ringo was left handed but used a right handed drum set. •Ringo voiced Thomas the Tank Engine. •The Beatles couldn't hear themselves play in their concerts due to the screaming girls. It is said that they kept their tempo from Ringo's drumming. But Ringo couldn't hear the playing, so he kept his tempo by looking at John's movement.

My quick meeting Ringo story: Even though quick, this is indeed true: I'm thinking it must've been around 1981 or so (when I was still riding a motorcycle everywhere and hadn't gotten a car yet) and I was stopped at a stoplight, at (if I'm not mistaken) or very close to the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Laurel Canyon in LA/Hollywood (if you were to go to Google maps you would see that Laurel Canyon goes north and Cahuenga Boulevard goes South, at that point). There to my left is a beautiful convertible - a black (I think that was the color) Mercedes 450 SL (one of my favorite cars of the era) and so I look to see who the driver is and ... damned if it isn't Ringo Starr! To his right in the passenger seat was his wife at the time, Barbara Bach (I think at that time I may have recognized her from the James Bond film she was in). I gave a nod and maybe a little wave and said, "Hi" (their top was down and I was on a motorcycle's - we were both "convertible") and he gave me a little nod and a wave I think may have said hi back ... and right about then, the light turned green… ... And there is my true Ringo story. Talk about an indelible memory!

evomoralesCO THE BEATLES Formed: 1957, Liverpool, England; Disbanded 1970 Members: 1) George Harold Harrison, lead guitar, vocals (born Liverpool, England, 25 February 1943; died Los Angeles, California, 29 November 2001); 2) John Winston (later changed to Ono) Lennon, rhythm guitar, harmonica, vocals (born Liverpool, England, 9 October 1940; died New York, 8 December 1980); 3) James "Paul" McCartney, bass, vocals (born Liverpool, England, 18 June 1942); 4) Ringo Starr, drums (Richard Starkey Jr., born Dingle, England, 7 July 1940). Former members: 5)Peter "Pete" Best, drums (born Liverpool, England, 24 November 1941); 6)Stuart "Stu" Sutcliffe, bass (Stuart Fergusson Victor Sutcliffe, born Edinburgh, Scotland, 23 June 1940; died Hamburg, West Germany, 10 April 1962). As you can see, Ringo was about 3 months older than John. I did not list Yoko Ono's vital statistics in the interest of world peace and because she wasn't a Beatle. Many find Joko's very present to be offensive; I have no comment.

He easily looks 20 years younger than he actually is. Crazy... Also kinda hilarious that back in the 60s, Paul was the "cute one" while Ringo was a little dopey looking. But now, Paul looks like Angela Lansbury and Ringo looks fit and trim and young. Funny how that worked out.

"We're doing it so Paul can have a day out" 😂 Ringo has always had a killer sense of humour. Ringo and George (God rest his soul) were by far my favourite Beatles. I always loved the friendship between them and Eric Clapton even after stormy waters. All 3 of them have never lost their common touch.

He has such British humour I love it. I watched a behind the scenes of making the Cirque du Soleil show LOVE (highly recommended - it's amazing!) and they talked to Paul and he said something along the lines of "I'm one of FOUR GUYS in the WORLD who can say they were a Beatle. And now I can appreciate it as a work of art, it's done, we're finished. I can look back and say, 'Wow, we really were f**king great.'" I thought it was a fantastic quote.

+Vito Guttilla Exactly. And someone who was reliable and methodical and skilled with a low-key personality like Ringo was what the Beatles needed for a drummer. One of the reasons why they gave Pete Best the sack wasn't just because he wasn't good enough at drumming, but also because he was arrogant and didn't get along with the others.

N.K. Revolution Well okay N.K., I respectfully disagree...particularly given the sheer volume + variety of songs written/produced by them, for themselves & others, within a relatively short span of time...then there's the influence they had, literally on the world...groundbreaking in many respects...your word 'popular' just doesn't do them justice...in my opinion. You say there's been a 'better' band...you just know I have to ask who LOL!
