Some interesting facts about Ringo.... •Ringo's favorite animals are frogs and cats. •During his time in the Beatles, Ringo would often tune his drum set differently for every song so it can be hard to replicate it. •Ringo sold his 1964 Ludwig Super Classic Black Oyster Pearl drum set for $2.2 million in 2015. He used this drum set for albums, Help and Rubber Soul. •During the White Album sessions in 1968, John Lennon gifted Ringo with his Rickenbacker 325c64 1996 Rose Morris. Ringo sold this guitar at an auction for $800,000 in 2015. •It is rumored that George gifted Ringo his 1963 Gretsch G6119 Tennessee Rose. But the story is the guitar was stolen from an EMI closet in 1968 and never seen again. •Ringo often preferred to sing Boys instead of Act Naturally due to his limited voice range. •In 1968, Ringo walked off during the White Album sessions due to arguing. When he came back, The Beatles covered his drum set in flowers as a welcome back gift. •Ringo was left handed but used a right handed drum set. •Ringo voiced Thomas the Tank Engine. •The Beatles couldn't hear themselves play in their concerts due to the screaming girls. It is said that they kept their tempo from Ringo's drumming. But Ringo couldn't hear the playing, so he kept his tempo by looking at John's movement.

It's really something to me that someone as humble as he is was part of something as big The Beatles. You'd think by now he'd have a massive ego and would just be totally over the whole thing, but he's just as sweet and free spirited as he was back then.
@sarahlazzarotto4274
@sarahlazzarotto4274 9 жыл бұрын
I think it helped that there was barely any social media (twitter, instagram, etc). When he got to interact with fans, it was in person. The most media coverage was the radio or a slot on television. nowadays, "celebrities" get thousands of 'likes' on a photo and it can easily inflate an ego. He was also big in a time where it was the coolest thing to be humble and love everyone. "all you need is love".
@violetsnotviolence
@violetsnotviolence 9 жыл бұрын
Sarah English Very true. Nothing is off limits now, and it puts a performer in the spotlight 24/7. That kind of attention can be addictive I think. Also, I think that the fact that the time period musically was so different has something to do with it. You had to have a talent of some sort to stand out plus you had to work your ass off to get the public's attention. Now it's who looks the hottest in a stage costume or who has the biggest following on Twitter.
@sarahlazzarotto4274
@sarahlazzarotto4274 9 жыл бұрын
violetsnotviolence I agree. also, I hate that all the little Justin Bieber fans think he's way bigger than the Beatles. The fact that the Beatles were known worldwide without the use of twitter and facebook is HUGE and they don't even realize because they've never lived in a world where this amount of social media didn't exist. It's sad really. The Beatles paved the way for modern artists. I got to watch the 50th anniversary of The Beatles on Ed Sullivan with my parents (they remember watching it 50 years ago) and I cried. The Beatles mean the world to me.

natalieloves13 John was a real asshole in real life =/ That is so sad, because I grew up likstening to them, my dad's a HUGE fan, and to grow up by their songs and find out the ugly truth about someone as iconic as John Lennon is really sad. I remember his older son (Julian) saying John was the reason he never wanted to be a father, can you imagine that? He preached so much about love and respect and peace... but didn't apply it to his daily life. I still think John is a legend and he's a genius in many ways, but it just sucks to know what was behind it.

My quick meeting Ringo story: Even though quick, this is indeed true: I'm thinking it must've been around 1981 or so (when I was still riding a motorcycle everywhere and hadn't gotten a car yet) and I was stopped at a stoplight, at (if I'm not mistaken) or very close to the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Laurel Canyon in LA/Hollywood (if you were to go to Google maps you would see that Laurel Canyon goes north and Cahuenga Boulevard goes South, at that point). There to my left is a beautiful convertible - a black (I think that was the color) Mercedes 450 SL (one of my favorite cars of the era) and so I look to see who the driver is and ... damned if it isn't Ringo Starr! To his right in the passenger seat was his wife at the time, Barbara Bach (I think at that time I may have recognized her from the James Bond film she was in). I gave a nod and maybe a little wave and said, "Hi" (their top was down and I was on a motorcycle's - we were both "convertible") and he gave me a little nod and a wave I think may have said hi back ... and right about then, the light turned green… ... And there is my true Ringo story. Talk about an indelible memory!

I like Ringo's interviews. He is very charming, down to earth and never shows attitude or hyper-extended ego. Can one imagine all of the same questions he gets asked asked every time he is met on the street or at a party etc. by a Beatles fan. Yet, he always comes off pleasantly and good natured. I think that he is just a terrific human being who enjoys people. I wish him and his family continued happiness.

+GondarthReturns Yes that Ringo trademark, unique sound, and the fact that he make his flaws strengths. He know how to sit the song, he is not a viruoso like Moon or Bonham, but each hit in the drums was made to make the song better and soulful. He is a great drummer.

Diego Núñez As someone that loves playing drums, and hopes to make a career out of it, I just find it incredibly offensive when someone calls Ringo the worst musician or drummer ever... Heck, you think of a harsh criticism against Ringo, and it's hurtful to me. The man was an absolute drumming God. They just fail to see it.

Former members: 5)Peter "Pete" Best, drums (born Liverpool, England, 24 November 1941); 6)Stuart "Stu" Sutcliffe, bass (Stuart Fergusson Victor Sutcliffe, born Edinburgh, Scotland, 23 June 1940; died Hamburg, West Germany, 10 April 1962). As you can see, Ringo was about 3 months older than John. I did not list Yoko Ono's vital statistics in the interest of world peace and because she wasn't a Beatle. Many find Joko's very present to be offensive; I have no comment.

Ringo looks young because he has a good sense of humor. He smiles a lot, laughs a lot and he is enjoying and appreciating life. He's always excited at doing things.

I grew up in the 60s, saw The Beatles on Ed Sullivan and 19 months later, I saw them in concert on my 9th b-day ! It was a cultural phenomenon. I feel very lucky to have seen this happen. Beatles4Ever

There will never be a band as popular as them but there will be and arguably has been a band that is better (just my opinion)

N.K. Revolution Well okay N.K., I respectfully disagree...particularly given the sheer volume + variety of songs written/produced by them, for themselves & others, within a relatively short span of time...then there's the influence they had, literally on the world...groundbreaking in many respects...your word 'popular' just doesn't do them justice...in my opinion. You say there's been a 'better' band...you just know I have to ask who LOL!

N.K. Revolution I didn't even know they existed until you said so... whether you think they might be more popular. People aren't going to remember those bands generations from now. The Beatles however? Every generation will and has at least heard of them. It's quite simple really

When asked if he's excited about being inducted into the rock and roll Hall of Fame... "I'm only doing it for Paul". I honestly believe him. How do you not love this guy? A good musician, good beatle and a good man. He's grown to be my favourite Beatle.

See? That's what i mean. If Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, or even Adele come on the show, you'll always have some haters down in the comments. Not here. Literally NO hate comment about ringo. So sad that modern musicians are brought down so badly. There will never be a united fanbase like the beatle fanbase.

what I've noticed is that, when you're a musician that's new to the public's eye, you frequently get massive hate from them. But once you get older and older, the lesser hate you get and the more praise you get. I don't know, it's just me.

Ly De torres I wonder if the haters just find other people to hate? :-) Ringo still has haters: people who say he didn't deserve his fame, that he wasn't actually good, etc. (Which, if the haters actually studied music, they'd know better.) But after a few decades, if a person hasn't proved themself an idiot/jerk/egoist/etc, the hate doesn't stick. And I think it helps that Ringo's a genuinely nice guy.

scionofgrace, I think in ringo's state, it's because of bandwagon. Look at Nickelback. People hate them because the Internet hates them.
