Happy 81st Birthday Ringo. Thanks for singing and recording this song. It was so perfect for me and Gregabee in the winter of '74 as we were both 16 and fell in love on the night we met - 11/1/73 and were constantly snuggled together in the car and wherever we were together. I had strawberry lipgloss that I always wore too. He's on the other side now and think of him when I hear this song. RINGO FOR PRESIDENT!!!!

All here act like they've never heard a song about the social approval and law at the age of 16. There's so many songs about how wonderful it was to be able to date at sixteen and seventeen. It shows up in movies also. Nothing creepy about it, it's a song, happens to be sung by an older guy. Imagine if you were in the late teens, got your "steady" beside to you when these songs came out in the '60s, little hearts would just swell. The original was sung by Johnny Burnett and featured on American Graffiti. Girl in this video is my heartthrob, Carrie Fisher.

@JaneAsherKnows If you've ever seen the film A Hard Day's Night, then you know Ringo STEALS that film. He's easily the most naive of the group AND at the same time most magnetic one in that film. It's funny because you'd expect John or Paul to dominate that film. I never had anything against Ringo and never understood where the hatred came from. It's like the Stooges with Curly and Shemp. I liked both Curly and Shemp!!!

@JaneAsherKnows I own the film on DVD but I haven't seen it in 20 years, not since I saw it in a film class. I was just struck by how natural he was in that film and how he effortlessly stole that film. Again, I've never understood the hatred some people have for him. Jerry Lewis, the filmmaker/comedian -- I can totally understand why people didn't like him. He was one of the most self-absorbed, egotistical people I've ever seen on talk shows. That just dripped out within 10 seconds of any interview I've ever seen of him and I thought Dean Martin had to have the greatest patience to put up with Jerry for over 10 years!!!! Dean Martin, OTOH, like Ringo, was very likeable.

This makes me feel nostalgic and sad, but happy at the same time, and is very beautiful as a whole, also, it reminds me to a personal story aswell; Several months ago, in highschool, when I was 18, there was a girl who liked me, but she was 15. I'd speak with her anyways and I did found in her a good company to pass the time and just talk, we shared a lot of things and I started to kinda like her when I first doubted, but I was cold with her, avoiding her sometimes and not doing any romantic move because of her age. We just stopped talking because she founded another guy. It wasn't but as the time passed by that I realized how a great company I've lost and how much happier I was with her. What I'm trying to say is, age IS NOT just a number, but if the legal situation is favorably (mine was), she's/he's is mature enough for knowing what her/he wants, and you TRULY love her/he with a REAL romantic interest, and you're certain you're not attracted because of her/his age, just go and get it, do what your heart tells you. This beautiful rendition of this song, the video, lyrics and whole feeling, makes me want to shed a tear or two, thank you so much Ringo, and lovely Carrie Fisher aswell, it brings to my mind joyfully and less darker memories

I’m not totally sure about the perspective of the lyrics of this song. I am aware that Ringo is not the composer, perhaps the vision of the composer was not envisioning a muture older man lusting after a 16 year old teenage girl, which we know is a crime, but a teenage boy falling who is in love with the girl of his dreams. Ringo’s album Ringo was released in 1973, Ringo turned 33 that year, after all is said & done, I don’t think he was looking for any trouble with the law. He just liked the song & recorded his version. 😊 1:59

I was in elementary school in the 1970s and remember hearing this on the radio. But I never saw the video for it. I'm not gonna lie, it's downright spooky seeing Carrie Fisher in this knowing she's passed away. And also knowing how old Ringo and Paul are now and knowing they won't be with us much longer.

I heard this on the jukebox before the album was released I believe. I did not know that it was an oldie. Beatles solo albums by all the Beatles 1970- 1975 were the closest thing and all we had to The Beatles being together. On this " Ringo" Lp they all appear but never all on one song

So a little context for the ones who are creeped out, He didn't wright this song it's a cover of a popular song from the 60s Even though the guy who wrote it back then was also an adult in his 20s it was normal for people to always mention ages like 16/17 in the song lyrics because that's the majority of the audience who were listening to it, Teenagers who loved corny stuff like this Making a music video for this is still a very questionable idea though but, you know, it was different times

The song was recorded in 1973, the video with Carrie was shot in 1978. She is in her 20s here. Moreover, this song is a COVER. The original song is about a teenage boy singing to a teenage girl. At the end of this sketch, which was for a TV special, Ringo is dragged away by his 'dad', for being late, and Carrie yells, 'Call me!'. The joke being that they are PLAYING teenagers in this. Goddamn people today overreact to everything.
