Also Galadriel is wielding the Ring of Adamant, like, literally, in this very scene. I don't know about you, but, I would think one of the Three being with this company of Elves would offer them, you know, "protection, concealment from evil, and preservation," all that, and stuff. Apparently, the writers forgot that their show is called Rings of Power, or that they had any already made.
@nathynorthy6916Ай бұрын
Of course, all you're doing is comparing the show to Tolkien canon, which the show left behind after about 10 seconds of the very first episode. But does any of what you said go against this? The barrow-wights' origin is actually uncertain - all we know is that they were evil spirits that the Witch-king eventually sent to the Barrow Downs. In RoP, Elrond and Galadriel aren't passing through the Barrow Downs - they're going through some evil forest. So, it could be that this forest was infested by the kind of spirits that the Witch-king later commanded to take over the tombs on the Barrow Downs. When it comes to the other Istari, Tolkien originally wrote that the Five Wizards all arrived together in the Third Age. But he later changed his mind and said the Blue Wizards arrived in the Second Age - before the other three. So again, introducing the "Dark Wizard" to this story doesn't conflict with Tolkien canon. Of course, if The Stranger turns out to be Gandalf, then that would be as non-canonical as many, many other aspects of RoP that you could have highlighted. But whether it's canon or not isn't the point here - it's whether the storytelling itself is any good. And RoP fails miserably at that test.

13:21 I think the comment here misses the point. Canonically Elves roll their r's so the actress is doing as directed. Tolkien says his use of R in their language "represents a trilled r in all positions; the sound was not lost before consonants". The problem is that she, and almost everyone else in the show pronounces it very self consciously and awkwardly in a way you would not expect from someone speaking their own language (Galadriel even rolls her r awkwardly when saying her own name in s1). The result is jarring precisely because it doesn't sound like eg a native Spanish speaker, but like a Brit poorly imitating their accent

tl;dr: rant about why the youtuber's analysis of this scene is garbage and that you have been sold a lie First of all, I want to start by directly refuting the youtubers disingenuous description of the scene. They were not discussing a coup in view of loyal soldiers to the queen, there was *one* soldier, he was off duty, and *hiding behind a pillar mostly out of sight eavesdropping* This is what I find so frustrating about videos like these. Most of you dont even watch the show and just enjoy shitting on it, sure, more power to you, genuinely I mean that, but it opens the door for guys like this to exaggerate issues or just straight up fabricate problems in the show just so he has more content to shit on, and none of you even notice because it's established in your minds the show is capable of being just that bad. This is no different than cinema sins cringe and I'm hoping most of you realize this eventually just like you did with cinema sins. Now to refute the comment I'm replying under. I can tell you with 100% certainty this commenter has not seen the show for themself, because Valandil, the soldier loyal to the Queen, walks up to the table and comments on how it is odd that they are dining in such a grubby tavern. That is literally the first thing he says (after greeting Isildur's sister). "You know, I thought Guilds-folk preferred to keep to the more fashionable part of town. What are you doing in the Old Quarter?" You are correct in assuming it is odd, commentor, because it is. That is what the show is conveying to you. Pharazon rebuttles with "We came here to bury a King." an obvious lie hidden within a truth, but Pharazon wasn't aware Valandil was eavesdropping, but it gives more credence as to why they're discussing the coup in this tavern at all, and the subtext of it. It's convenient under this guise and also builds on Pharazon and his cohorts vile nature. They are using the previous King's death as a springboard to advance their own political power. They're not really there to honor his death, but to discuss ways to usurp his Queen. Some of you may say "Dumb of them to do it in public still!" well when Pharazon's son walks up to Valandil and Valandil postures in a threatening stance towards him, all of the folk in the tavern turn or stand to face Valandil in retaliation, which should've told you that all these people are loyal to Pharazon if they're willing to defend his son like that. So to fully deconstruct this scene, they are discussing a coup in a tavern full of people loyal to Pharazon under the guise of being in that area due to the King's burial. Valandil has no ability to arrest them for treason here, which is meant to show you how weak the Queen's power and her influence on her people is, so when Pharazon does seize the throne later in the episode, it is believable. This is what I mean. The youtuber either intentionally misconstrued this entire scene to sell the narrative that it's shit and that every character is a moron and the writers are too, or he completely was not paying attention to not even just the subtext of the scene, but also the actual words of dialogue that were being spoken. This the type of guy to complain about "show dont tell!!!" then still miss the point even when the show is spelling it out for him. Kind of an aside, but did you know some of the writers/producers of RoP come from shows like Fringe, Breaking bad and Better Call Saul, Stranger Things, and The Sopranos? But no man they all must be dumb as bricks making the worst thing ever. Do you still think it's dumb they would discuss a coup at all not behind closed doors? If you think that well then that still negates this comment complaining about not being in a dining hall. It would be even more dumb to do it there. There are 100% scenes in this show worthy of criticism and being absolutely torn apart. This is not one of them, and neither are most of the other scenes in this video. It is padded out with fabricated, psuedo-intellectual nonsense for the sake of selling you content. If someone wants me to, and if given the time it would take, I would go step by step and explain why most every other scene analysis in this video is also hot garbage. You all are being farmed by low effort youtubers. I am too technically since I'm here engaging with it

-The Black Forest is (I hope, cause else it's just a stupid thing the show made up) a play on the Ered Gorgoroth, given that in the Lore, Ered Gorgoroth (the Mountains of Terror) were infested with giant spiders and none entered there return alive. Aside Beren, the mortal man who fell in love with Luthien Tenuviel whom he saw dancing in a meadow of flowers (which coincidentally is how JRR met and fell in love with Edith), which is another slap in the face because the track from Bear mccreary is called "Shelob"...so now when you watch the movie Return of the King and see Shelob's eye scar, Dumbdur did it! -Tar Miriel going with white is done as a jab at the people online who argued against the casting of Amanda Waller. IN the lore, the way Tolkien describes her is: "fairer than Silver, or Ivory or Pearls". So what better way to 'shut up' people complaining online about the interpretation that 'fair' means 'skintone' by chosing fair as 'prettier' and literally drape her in silver ivory pearls -Fun fact a lot of animals can talk in Tolkien's world (like the bird that told Bard of laketown where to shoot Smaug), so if the Eagle of Manwë was there to 'choose' a real ruler and NOT Pharazon...why did it not speak up? Because the Great Eagles are capable of speech. -While the interpretation of Bombadil's...interesting. I recall from the book he's an aloof nature spirit living in the Old Forest near the Shire. So what's he doing in the Easteling land of Rhún? And why is he teaching Istari in the SECOND AGE when they should be active in the third age! -The fact the Barrow-Wights are here, during the Barrow Downs, is concerning, because in Lore (getting tired of me saying that yet?) they were infested by evil spirits (therefor creating the Barrow-Wights of the Barrow Downs) when the Witch-King of Angmar (yes, the 'I have the strongest Ring of the Nine, No MAN can Kill me'...THAT WITCH-KING) commanded them just to further destroy the kingdom of Arnor (which last capital was Cardolan)...so why are there spirits here? If these are evil spirits, why did the Witch King infest the graves...since they're already infested... -the Mud Monster is called "one of the fouler things than Orcs hidden in the deep places of the Earth" (you know, like the Watcher and other monstrosities). So "deep places" means 'foot deep' in a swamp somewhere. -Galadriel (the real one, not this Karrrren rrrrrolling herrrr rrrrrrs) with Nenya could level Dol Guldur with a mere gesture. @dandare90552 ай бұрын
@@DarkHourYT Yup, Siemanko :D And yes: I always imagined them as highly pragmatic and meritocratic. Likely with appreciation for both raw strength and ingenuity in terms of technology. Hard to say if they would have any strong similarity to real life political scheme, but I would imagine that due to also being rather strongly family oriented (even in a wider family) they would likely follow semi-monarchical structure with indeed a King in the center but also various clans co-ruling with likely own domains with own secrets (trade or otherwise) and influence. Ugh, it is painful since Dwarf culture in many setting and Tolkien especially are VERY intriguing and easy to make both complex and interesting - while still making sense in universe. Like: I did once talk at length with some other RPG enthusiasts about any possibility of Black Dwarves aside literal supernatural curse as it happens in DnD for example. What I came with was: well what about Volcano Dwarves or at least ones living in caverns with immense natural Lava flow in vast caverns? Not only being dark-skinned would be very logical but also imagine all the possibilities for different capabilities in technology! Heh.. making them mundane, or even worse: stupid, is frankly a sin.
@mrmaxmondays2 ай бұрын
16:49 Hi! I actually have an answer to that! It's not necessarily each barrow wights blade can kill their respective wight, rather the Barrow Downs are the graves of men who fought against Angmar. Angmar was a nation that was led by the Witch King and he used wights as soldiers. The men enchanted their blades with essentially anti-wight magic, but after being buried the Witch King thought it'd be a funny f-u to make them into wights. So yes, while it does seem mighty convientent, the show isn't too far off the mark lore-wise...! ...However... That does point out something else that's painful to realize. The Witch King made the barrow wights...you know, the guy who was turned into a wraith by one of the rings of power? The ones that uh...haven't been forged yet..?
@DarkHourYT2 ай бұрын
They could've said in the script a little better like "the blades buried here are enchanted to hurt them" these are basics of writing give the audience the information in the most efficient way

@@DarkHourYT at 30:27 in episode 4, right after they kill the wights, Elrond says, "According to lore, only the blades with which they were buried will return such creatures to rest." Did you even watch this show man? He literally almost turns straight to the camera and says that, I felt like I was being talked down to by the writers, like I wasnt smart enough to figure that out unless they verbally explained it to me then and there, but somehow even that was not enough for you I guess. Like that scene is so stilted and awkward because the actors clearly aren't comfortable fighting with cgi monsters, and Elrond literally expositing lore to the audience right after killing the wights is borderline hilarious (this was your idea too apparently, but yeah you're so much more competent than these writers lmao), and yet your critique is hung up on a detail you actually got wrong because you weren't paying attention. Come on man
@asherking159Ай бұрын
and to reply to the original comment, Galadriel implies Sauron is the one who raised the wights. Which makes sense, they happened to be buried where the elves would send their messengers through, thereby allowing him more time to continue forging the rings. It's just to fit in with their whole "Sauron is awakening evil all across middle earth to further incentivize people rely on his rings to save them" thing they've got going. Sauron creating problems then selling people the solution. I think the Witch King angle is way cooler too, and without it the blades being able to kill the wights lacks its irony, but I can see what they're going for. It's not without purpose, up to you if you think it was the correct creative decision or not

@justforever96Ай бұрын
@@triciacarr5019race mixing has nothing to do with fast travel. It is from groups immigrating. You think people are just like popping over to Africa on a weekend flight and getting knocked up and then coming home? Most of the black population in the US came here on sailing ships. Transportation makes mass immigration easier but it doesn't cause it, and in the right circumstances they will immigrate anyway. A lot of the people entering the US and Europe are walking there, or sailing on small boats. To create an ethnically diverse population you need a significant number of people of different genetic backgrounds to move into a region. And they need to keep coming in, or the groups need to maintain strict separation and not interbreed, or over a few generations they will all just be the same color but a few shades darker than they were before the immigrants came. Where exactly in Middle Earth did the Asian and Black elves immigrate from? Or are we just going to pretend that the gods created life in a pleasingly diverse spectrum of features and just kind of mixed them all together at random all over the world?

Rumors like that usually appear in any famine situation anyway. Don't believe everything you read just because it confirms your own biases. Half of "history" is bullshit and speculation anyway. In the cases I do know of where grain reserves were not used, it usually had more to do with uncertainty how long the famine would be and whether the need would be even more desperate later, or just a failure to find adequate transportation to distribute the stuff. How exactly do you hand out thousands of tons of grain to millions of people? Where do you get the carts, and the workers, who keeps track of distribution and who had gotten what? But yes much easier to just say it was an evil plot to inflate the grain prices. Because super high prices that no one can actually afford is always the best way to get profits.

Seven to the Transgender-Lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And nine, nine rings were gifted to the race of LGBTQ+, who above all else desire power. For within these rings was bound the strength and the will to govern each race. But they were all of them deceived, for another ring was made. Deep in the land of Mordor, in the Fires of Mount White, the Dark Lord White Straight guy forged a master ring, and into this ring he poured his cruelty, his malice and his will to dominate all life.

Moronatar is beautiful. I would have gone Dissabetes. And I just call the sister “Boobs”. Least they have boobs in the show. Most of the time these days they just get taped up. I stand for boob representation! Barrow-Wights are the bodies of men presumably inhabited by spirits of long-slain Avari, spirits who refused the summons to the Halls of Mandos. The lore is completely ignored here. Barrow blades were originally wrought by smiths of Arthedain in the middle of the Third Age as daggers for use in the wars with Angmar. They are blades used to fight the Wights, not carried by them. They were buried in a barrow in Tyrn Gorthad along with the last prince of Cardolan, who fell in battle with Angmar. So it is ridiculous to assume that the Barrow-Wights’ own blades would be the only weapons that could kill them. Barrow-blades had not yet been forged. You should be able to to destroy the vessel that contains the spirits. Fire usually does the trick.

Maybe by season 4 of rings of powers things will start to make sense or we are just brain washed.. AI will eventually take over everything and no, no jobs are safe. everything you can apply to human labor can be handled by AI combined with robotics so what we will experience in the future is mass unemployment, has already started in the IT industry. then we are introduced into a contribution society to try to maintain some form of structure in the consumption society we have created because currency is the last thing we want to abandon, but even money's value will eventually become insignificant when it is given out every month freely. Some countries will ofc handle the big change better then others but its important that the change is incredible fast, we cant linger with one fot in the value and the other in freedom (if we do, there will be chaos). The longer the gap remains open the more the population divides.

Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Marvel, DC, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings.. every great IP. All for "the message". "Back then, people didn’t want to or need to know every actor’s and director’s political beliefs and were left to draw their own conclusions." It's the same shit different day man. You've just gotten older and have learned to recognize these things better, and instead of going back and re-examining what the political climate looked like in the 70's or 80's, it's a lot easier to pinpoint modern politics that are fresh in your mind. Just like putting a love story in The Hobbit was a horrible idea this whole show is. Id call it bad fan fic but they'd have to be fans if you could call it that. christopher didnt like jackson's movies either, why do you all insist on bringing his name up. Christopher died before RoP started shooting, Simon took over, and Simon didnt like how close Jackson's movies followed the books (even though they still deviated quite a bit). It makes perfect sense why RoP is the way it is based on that information alone. Also the merging of the timelines was done so the human characters stayed consistent and we didnt have a whole new cast of human characters every season, but the elves remained the same. There are other reasons too, but that was the big one. You can say this was a bad creative decision, it's debatable, but when making an adaptation to a different form of media, sacrifices must be made. Not everything translates well. People didnt even like the time skip in House of the Dragon, and that was only a couple years.
