The impression the books give you of the forging of the rings is of Celebrimbor (and Sauron) putting his will into it, his skill gained from centuries of practice. The show reduces it to metallurgy, then tries to rescue it by making mithril something more than it was. If mithril was so critical to the lives of elves, would Bilbo have been allowed to leave Rivendell with his mailshirt after the Battle of the Five Armies?

Mithril was literally a macguffin, a vaguely defined plot device that drove the dwarves to dig too deep That's not a criticism, because it's a macguffin Tolkien integrated very well into the world, it's ill-defined but it doesn't feel out of place. It's a rare ore in a magical world, not much more you really need to understand for every subsequent piece to fit into the puzzle Mithril in Rings of Power is a prime example of a very terrible Macguffin. It's absolutely vital to the world building.... but fuck me if it makes any sense at all. It's just there, it's connected to everything, but mechanically it makes no sense. And worse, you can tell it's there to create drama that otherwise should not exist. It's just such terrible writing at such a basic level.
@majkus2 жыл бұрын
@@petriew2018 Not quite a McGuffin in Lord of the Rings, since the mithril-coat plays a critical role at one point. But the idea of taking something that is already a fantastic substance (impossibly light, strong, valuable) and adding a magical property to it (including, problematically, making it self-luminous) only shows how little the writers understand fantasy.

The people in power are antithetical to truth. To maintain their power, they must infiltrate, subvert, corrupt, and take over every institution imaginable. The most important, and first, institutions they take control of are those that dispense information. Schools, media, news, Hollywood, social media, etc. It allows them to control the discourse, to control what information people are exposed to. Not only do they get to curate what gets released, prioritizing their propaganda, they censor any dissent or disagreement with their propaganda. They curate narratives beneficial to themselves, to help maintain their own power, to a detriment to the people, keeping us dumbed down. As the world deteriorates under their power, due to all of their lies, people begin to notice the insanity more, and begin to question the official narratives more, and those that speak them. Thus, to maintain power, the evil people at the top must espouse increasingly ludicrous lies. "Our garbage is truly a masterpiece." "Trans men are men." "Sex is a social construct." "Children can consent to s--." "Freedom is slavery." "Right is wrong." "Logic is racist." And so on. As the world crumbles around us, the lies they tell us make less sense. Furthermore, those in power, due to their nature as liars, believe and practice some truly abhorrent behaviors and philosophies. We're experiencing the slippery slope. They've always wanted to get us to these abhorrent degenerate places in society, but couldn't come right out and say it for fear of immediate and justified reprisal. They had to slide society from point A to B, B to C, until we're finally at Z. They've boiled us slowly toward their desired goal. This is why the slippery slope isn't a fallacy when dealing with liars, hiding their true intentions.

I was never like a hardcore tolkien fan but I respected it and loved the Jackson trilogy. Seeing the desecration of Tolkiens work made me buy the illustrated set with work by Alan Lee. I can sympathize with LotR and Halo fans seeing what they have done with The Witcher on Netflix. And now that Cavill will be gone? My interest in the Witcher show has hit rock bottom.

The Witcher show was garbage since day one. When a lead writer is a lady that prominently calls herself "Patriarchy smasher" on her social media profiles, what exactly did people expect? World class writing? Witcher is garbage, it pisses all over the slavic source material.

@@LeutnantJoker The interesting thing is that she was the showrunner on Daredevil. You know before Disney fucked it revoking the rights and then inserting a beloved version of the character into She Hulk. So I think a lot of people myself included thought, oh well shit if they got the showrunner from Daredevil... The showrunner isn't the writer though so... at any rate..there were elements I liked about the show. The casting of Joey Batey as Dandelion and his chemistry with Cavill as Geralt. I did largely watch it for Cavill. Then in Season 2 they royally fucked up the character of Vesemir and killed off Eskel which royally pissed me off. So many beloved works are being bastardized. Fortunately we will always have the written works of JRR Tolkien and the Jackson Trilogy. We will always have Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

As it is very likely and logic the scenes at the start and at the end on the raft were filmed in a close session and not weeks or episides apart, Charlie Vickers must have been very, very daft not knowing he was Sauron in disguise. I start wondering he even knew after closing the season he was Sauron in disguise. Daft on a Raft.

After two videos with Marcus are out now, I'll correct my initial judgment about him I gave after watching his teaser...well that video didn't make him justice, he's a good guy. I think he has not yet stood out giving his best, but I hope he will. After all, he must acquire greater confidence, it is normal. I have only one piece of advice to give at this point: try to control your hands Marcus, they distract a little and make you look anxious and insecure even if you are not.

Sometimes I truly wonder why their previous years worth of scripts were always rejected. Why? Don't know 🤷

The tower they supposedly forged the rings in couldn't be the forge the dwarves built coz when you see the top blow up in the attempt of making the rings it has ivy growing on the side if it.... it takes a long time for ivy to grow so its impossible its the same tower.

I never take anyone seriously who compare the works to someone else’s art. Especially if that art is The Dark Knight, or scriptures of old. The dumbfounded showrunners of The Rangs of Powa did both. However, this phenomenon is not recent. The writers of Skyfall, Prometheus and Alien Covenant did this repeatedly when they made those films. And all of them are sh’t. Yes, I said Skyfall is sh’t. “Masterpiece” has been a meaningless wording longer than many may think.

The real problem with JD Payne and Patrick MacKay is that they have very high ambitions but lack the skill to get to be where they want to be. They APE and MIMIC better writers such as Shakespeare, Tolkien, Milton, etc. and end up just looking like fools and morons. As the saying goes 'their ambition exceeds their grasp'.

The showrunners only prove the old adage: better to remain quiet and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. If the showrunners think that their "twists" are so special, then as Jake Gittes said in Chinatown: "if you think that, you're dumber than you think I think you are"

The main problem of Sauron being in love with Galadriel is the fact that the Ainur (Valar and Maiar), nor the Aratar themselves, engage in actual romance via love. The relationships that they have are born throug the union of their power, its about the compatibility and how well they enhance eachothers powers. They are powerful by themselves, but united ("married") they become almost unstoppable. It is not your traditional love.

@@christophertheriault3308 she was the only one known to couple with the children of Iluvatar, however it was never stated that she was in love with Thingol the way we understand love. She had love for nature and its beauty, but it was Thingol who fell for her and considering Thingol was so great he was compared to the Maia its kinda a special case. Thats the most simple way I can explain it so as to avoid going into multiple paragraphs on the topic as the "marriage" of the Ainur is a comlex and extensive topic.

And here's a little question; how does mithril having the power (in this show) to keep elves from dying make them magical in any other way? The only property the show has established for the 3 rings is life preservation. How does that give the rings the other powers they're describing?

The most ironic thing about this show is it tries to be a "I am woman, hear me roar" type thing and they literally made the woman the most incompetent, ego driven, and destructive character that just exudes toxic masculinity. Galadiral literally creates the chaos she wants to stop by thinking she can actively take on a traditional male role, and it ends exactly how one would predict, in failure.
