More videos like this please! This video was amazing! Hearing firsthand how a world class defender organized himself in defense is priceless information. Just don’t show this to Arsenal 😅

Shows how rampant classism and racism are that anyone has the audacity to call Rio thick. One of the smartest readers of the game, his CV is a madness for a reason.

Media team should keep putting out these mini clips as videos or even as Shorts. As a youth coach tools like these are helpful because kids enjoy this kind of video content specially when it’s coming from ex-top players like Rio giving first hand knowledgeable advice.

This video is simply outstanding….the does not only apply to defending but the entire game…,pressing etc Some players don’t want their teammates to be shouting at them and that’s why they lose concentration…. It’s good to hear a teammate saying you are out of position , man on etc ….keep you on your toes always
@thrilla722 жыл бұрын
Your second paragraph kind of contradicts your whole statement.

🚨 if you’re an up and coming centre back just finding your feet in your own game F***ing listen to this man He comes across as an average guy but he was top 10 of all time He annoys me how respectful he is to his guests when he was better than 85% of them

By Far Rio and Vidic I mean from 2006/07-2010/11 was just immense even though injuries didn't do but the seasons they were solid and calm on the ball.

I love Rio - great video. All banter but Rio will have you think he was an all-star centre back (which he was) and tactical genius commander of the British Armies in North Africa Montgomery on the pitch 😆 Like Vida, Evra, Neville and Carrick were subuteo players and it was Rios shouting moving them around the pitch lol. Let him shout at Roy Keane like that

Does having a keeper who orchestrates the defensive quartet instil a sense of defenders being vocal on the pitch? of all players the GK has the most complete picture of the pitch..

Nothing insightful here, very basic stuff. The very important detail Rio doesn't touch on is why the information from behind is crucial because when a forward begins a blind side run across you, that moment you have to turn your head 90 degrees is the moment the ball is delivered into the box, and it is at this point you are now vulnerable and not aware the ball has been delivered into the box. Short sharp communication "along the line" allows defenders to keep and eye on the ball, and defender their area far more proactively than having to worry about what's coming across them. This type of detail is lacking in the modern game and which is why we see far too many central defenders in outrageously poor defensive areas. If you want to learn how to defend your box like a master than watch John Terry. the GOAT!

Surely this comes down to the coaches??? we are creating too many soft players who are not vocal. you seem to watch the games and the vocal players are the older generation....exception recently being Bellingham at the World Cup who is pulling players out for not pressing and being available for the pass and play with him
