Fire Down Under is a fucking masterpiece!! That lineup was gold

I'm 54. First record I heard was Narrita. I was blown away. Finally an American band that was hanging with the NWOBHM! I was proud of them. Fire Down Under is an absolute masterpiece!! When Guy left I was devastated. I bought Restless Breed and it's a great album. Nice raw production and good songs. Great record. Born in America was the last Riot album I bought. They were a great band. Saw them once with Guy. Once with Rhett. They killed it live!

Its great to see the Rhett era of the band getting the props its deserves. Restless Breed and especially Born in America are heavy metal jewels. They always reminded me of an Americanized Judas Priest what with the over the top vocals, killer riffs and Western theme/sound to them.

I saw Rhett Forrester front the band early summer of '82 at a small club in southern New Hampshire...and again the next night on a Friday opening for Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and The Scorpions in RI. My girlfriend and I stood at the front of the stage at that little club in NH, Rhett Forrester came out and took total command from start to finish. I'll never forget the killer chrome chain-drive belt his had on...man that dude looked so cool! The guy looked totally awesome and his performance was nothing short of magnificent! He had the audience in the palm of his hand...to me the guy was a total rock-star in the true meaning of the word! It was obvious that the people in that club had no idea what they were in for...they swarmed the stage after the first, maybe second song and all were blown away...I mean, Riot was on fire and did 3 encores...the band friggin rocked their ass off! I've seen many, many rock shows, yet one of the best shows I ever saw was with Rhett Forrester fronting Riot that night in a little NH club, and again the next night in Providence opening for Rainbow and Scorps. Fast-forward 10 years later, March '93 I walk into this hole in the wall rehearsal studio in New Rochelle, NY to audition for the bass slot with Ace and low and behold Sandy Slavin is there on drums. I thought YEE friggin HA...this is so darn awesome! I mean that guy killed on drums! Although I ended up going on the road with Ace, we wound up using a different drummer, as Sandy left the band for reasons unknown to me. I'd wished I could have went on tour with Sandy, but it was all great nonetheless. Riot sure was such an awesome band...their songs still sound every bit as great today as back when they were released. Restless Breed is still one of my all-time favorite albums. Cheers!

I saw a Riot within the Scorpions and Rainbow rainbow also!! In Connecticut at the West Hartford agora ballroom. They were fantastic! The Scorpions on their Blackout tour were awesome too. And Rainbow was on they're Straight Through the Eyes tour. So many hard rock concerts back in the day -but here at 58 years old I can honestly say this is one of my favorite. Great band. It just baffles me that they didn't make the big coin so to speak. Fire Down Under, Restless Breed and Born in America all were essential listening as far as my crowd was concerned. And of course their first two albums were good also. When they played Loved By You Rhett threw his harmonica right at us-hit my hand and bounced off much to my chagrin! Great music, great times and great memories! Thank you Riot your music meant so much to me!!:🤘😎🤘

Extremely great documentary. First heard them on Metalmania compilation back in 1984. and soon after that Born in America. Gunfighter is one of my favorite riffs. Then, I discovered RB, FDA, Narita, RC :) I still can't choose between Guy and Rhett. Was totally confused by Thundersteel, asked my buddy is this same Riot. And yeah, they still sounded great as a power metal band, classic. Amazing thing that even metalheads in Yugoslavia loved them, nowadays no true young metalhead in Serbia and area which doesn't put them among best ever ;) Riot forever!!!!! \,,/ Thank you for documentary!!!

So good to see this and the recent clips and interviews with the original lineup of this criminally underappreciated band. Keep em’ coming. Kudos to all those guys that were part of those first three records. It’s mind boggling that it took a petition to get Fire Down Under released. Great music like any other art endures though and that record stands the test of time. A hard rock masterpiece. I hope Guy came to understand how influential and appreciated that record was before he passed. What a fantastic voice. Closest I got to this band live was a four-hour drive to Dallas in 1981 just to find Reunion Arena parking lot empty and “Cancelled” on the marquee. I think it was with Triumph and Frank Marino and we all went for Riot. Great documentary guys. Shine on.

I'm originally from NY State. I don't know about you, but I bought Restless Breed without hearing a single song off it, because of what Fire Down Under meant to me. Easily a top 5 Metal/Hard Rock album for me. Boy was I disappointed. Rhett may have been the showman, but for recording purposes, you just can't touch Guy's vocals. Now, I do want to clarify: I got into Restless Breed for it's own merits, but the transition was tough for me. I felt like, why don't they change their name, or something? Too bad Guy wasn't comfortable as a rock personality. --- Potential Band Names: Seal Babies, Baby Seals, Wry Yet, Rhriett, Marc and the Rotating Doors...

I love this band. I have seen them numerous times in San Antonio TX where I am from. opening up for many top notch bands and being a hard act to follow. Fire down under was my 1st Riot Album. Learned how to play every song on the drums. Sandy Slavin is a very tasteful drummer who plays in the pocket so well. Then Thundersteel. Bobby Jarzombek definitely laid down some serious drumming on that album. This band definitely was a band that should have been much bigger than they were.. Donnie Van Stavern is an excellent song writer and bassist. If you dig into this bands history you can find a lot of very interesting facts and so forth. Long Live Riot and Thanks to Riot V for continuing to keep the music of Riot alive. Some say they are a cover band or a tribute band lol. They are entitled to their opinion. I believe they are doing a good thing by keeping the flag of riot flying and the music alive..

Riot ceased to be with Mark Reale's passing, period end of story. This doc has some great rare footage but I do not think the cover band calling themselves "riot v" should be injecting themselves into the band's history like this. My opinion. RIP Mark, RIP Guy, RIP Rhett.
@danif.94144 жыл бұрын
Nobody is 'injecting themselves', remember my friend that Mr. Don Van Stavern knew Mark from the early 80s and Mr. Mike Flyntz joined in '89, plus they were great friends and decided to carry on in his name after deep consideration AND on the suggestion of Mark's father. That's why they will always have my eternal respect and support, all the way

I first heard Riot from one of my buddies in the hood, the Narita album and after that Road Racin became an airplay tune. White Rock was a band from our neighborhood along with Earthshaker which became Tesla. The awesome vocalist of malice did the same thing as guy, both were amazing singers, such a shame. Malice had put out the timeless metal classic of a album license to kill and he left music totally, that album is amazing, guy left riot after the awesome album fire down under. Loved guy but my favorite singer is the guy who fronted the all time best and most metal album riot ever created, the epic thundersteel. That album was to riot what painkiller was to priest, not one bad song, songs like buried alive the tell tale heart, johnny's back, fight or fall, bloodstreets, on wings of eagles, flight of the warrior, sign of the crimson storm, thundersteel, run for your life, and? Oh im sorry i guess thats every song on the album, but they are all gems. One of my favorite metal albums ever, the newest album was a little cheesy but not to bad, i wish they would go back to that heavy mellodic power metal sound like thundersteel but im glad to see them keeping the flame burning

Does anyone like their newer, speed metal type stuff? I prefer classic Riot with Guy and Rhett - and as always the late great Mark Reale. Their current lineup, still tours even after Mark died in Jan2012... none are original members. Bass player Don has been with them awhile, but he changed their sound from straight, four-on-the-floor, hard Rock & Roll to speed metal. Seems the new guys are just milking and living off the original Riot legacy. They play the old great 70s and early 80s songs in their shows, even though none of them were with the band then.

Record company’s destroyed a lot of original music. The worst thing is believing someone’s opinion, when you know what they want, but you want similar, sounding the exact opposite. If they haven’t been in it for long time, or cannot entertain an audience by themselves’. They know what they like. You must be versatile in genres, especially deep weird ‘depressing’ music sewerslvt nobody give shit about, Old and new. If musician cannot play what he hears in his head, he’ doesn’t know his instrument, he doesn’t know music. Campfire ,
