I have a riot mako 10 manufactured March 2021 sold through Bi-Mart under the name Cascade Pro. I’ve watched all the videos on KZbin and have made a few basic changes that make it perform better for me. First, I replaced the rudder line with a thinner and more flexible cord that makes it a lot easier to deploy and retract the rudder. Secondly I disconnected the rudder steering line (Left the wire cable inside the tubes) and tied the thinner cord to the rudder, routed the cord outside on top the rear sides up to under the seat and tied off with slack in front of seat. Now it is way easier to steer and can make sharper turns on the water with no effort at all! I recommend checking all screws to insure they are tight before initial use. I also used thinner cord to make an anchor trolley that slides easier. Under the seat I keep a dry bag with a towel. I also store the original heavy black line under the seat for use a a tow line. This model came with a chair that allows an additional five inches for the back rest to be moved backwards. I’ve also installed large drain plugs and made them into self draining. Additionally I molded keel guards for front and rear bottom hull protection. FYI, I’m 70 years old, 6’-1” and 225 lbs. and can easily load this light weight kayak. It stays dry inside for me and is very stable!

Do you remember what type of cord you used for the rudder deployment system?

Have you had problems with the rudder system not working properly? Where are you located in the states. I’m I. North Georgia maybe we can meet and run some test on them.

Yes, unfortunately I ran into same issue. Look at your rudder and determine whether your lines mount to THE TOP of the mounting bracket (in contact with the head of the bolt). If it is, remove that bolt and switch the lines to the bottom (in contact with the nut). This will straighten out the lines. ^^^ Next remove the bolt from your steering handle. If I remember correctly, you can tighten the play in the cables. When mounting the handle back on, use locktite. Tighten it all the way down and then back out a quarter turn so your steering is tight, but not too tight you can’t turn the handle. Hope this helps!

I own a riot 12 second time I took it out the steering cables broke. Amazon sells bicycle brake cable in a set of 6 for under 20 bucks. It’s the exact length from controller to rudder with a little extra. Works amazing and it’s not gonna snap!

@@BryanRoot540 I bought some also but my main issue was the handle coming loose after a few hours on the water. I ended up using some small non stretch line almost like braid bc I do some ocean fishing and the bike cables rusted way too fast. I tried my best to clean everything after each use but the water stayed in the tube I guess and rusted it in a few weeks. I have had some back issues and surgery recently so it’s been almost a year since I’ve used the kayak. I may find a replacement rudder system to install bc the handle sucks and won’t stay on tight.
