For anyone who's interested, the earliest known live recording of Joey is in a video on here for his thrash metal band Modifidious in a song called 'Emotional Overdose'. He was only around 17-years-old at the time and already you can hear that he's a very competent drummer. The quality isn't great but the bass drums are clearly audible and he's killing it. A must watch for any Joey fan. Also note Craig Jones on guitar.

I came to metal late (in my 20s), and the first massive festival I went to was Rock on the Range in 2009. Slipknot headlined. The 9 of them were going apesh*t, the crowd was going apesh*t, the pyro was going apesh*t, and Joey was calmly spinning upside-down on his drum rig. Sold me for life. Thanks for paying tribute to Joey; it's good to see people discovering and appreciating him, even now.

I didn’t know too much about Joey or have any opinion of his skills. After his death lots of not all rated him as the top best drummer hands down. I thought they were exaggerating because of what happened. I watched this exact documentary yesterday and that opening drum scene mesmerized me fully. I got chills and instantly understood why people rate him so high. SlipKnot has been my favorite currently active band since 2017 also.

If there ever was a band, who I believe is all about the fans, it is without a doubt Slipknot! I mean, the fact alone that they played shows of such intensity every other night and what stress that must've put on their bodies, especially with all the travelling, partying and whatever else it might've been on top. You just don't do that, unless you absolutely love what you do and who you're doing it for and Joey was the embodiment of that! The guy couldn't even walk anymore shortly before the band released him and had to be carried to his drumset to play, because his MS became so severe. That's how determined Joey was to put on a show for the fans and how much he loved the Knot and all of his brothers! R.I.P. Joey and Paul 🙏💔

So going on what you said about his passion for music. A decent amount of people probably aren't aware that he was also a pretty good guitar player. In 2002 Slipknot had a kind of hiatus and he formed the band Murderdolls which he played guitar in. Was a horror punk/shock rock band that to me was sort of a mash of graves era misfits and dope. Made some good original music along with a badass cover of White Wedding by Billy Idol. When he left Slipknot permanently that's what he was up to. Along with other things.

Thank you for reacting to this. It is a beautiful tribute and shows that regardless of his relationship with the band, they still thought of him and loved him and acknowledged the fact that they wouldn't have made it w/o him. He will always be #1. That means something more than I think most people realize because even after a member is replaced, the new member doesn't get their number. Jay has never used 1, Vman has never used 2 and Tortilla guy (I know who he is I just still like calling him Tortilla guy) has never used 3. It's almost like when an athlete's number is retired. A way of saying "you may be gone from the band but it is still a part of you. Your spot may be filled but they are not you." It's just always something I found endearing. Unfortunately, I never got to meet Joey and the one time I got to see the original 9 play back in 2004 I was so wasted, dehydrated and fatigued that I don't remember much. Something I regret to this day. Just hope that he is back with Paul and they are rocking it out again. RIP #1.

Hearing about his diagnosis sucked because I sympathize with the band and his family. I think Joey said acute transverse myelitis is similar to MS, since it's inflammation of the spinal cord it affects every nerve, and it can even affect vital organs, which may have been what happened. I have a friend with MS and it's much more treatable these days, but some days you wish you were dead.
