Yes, I believe he added great value. His upbeat and loving character on 'The Rifleman' taught trust and tenderness. It, also, showed love and respect between a father and son, and within a community.

Born in 1952, I don't remember bawling much when watching TV as a kid. But I'll never forget the two-part drama on The Rifleman when Johnny is left alone while his dad has to pursue some dangerous business many, many miles away. "Is he safe? Was he killed on the job?" The returning scene where little Johnny rushes to meet his father after recognizing him as a speck from about a mile away broke my heart. That's when I bawled.

He was definitely one of the very best child actors ever. I am approaching 70 and I rarely miss an episode of the Rifleman. Now that I am older the moral of the stories really touch my heart. I will miss the little guy but he lived a full life that will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, you will always be remembered.

Johnny Crawford was not only a musician and singer but incredibly talented actor as he and Chuck Conners developed a charismatic relationship that is rarely reached by two adults let alone a young child and an adult in some very well written scripts. Johnny just seemed to know what mannerisms to emote at the right times. And as one viewer of the Rifleman commented, "When Johnny Crawford smiled, the Sun seemed to shine." So true. Not only Johnnie shined but so did Chuck Conners. It was a very good match. I still try to catch episodes everyday. The series is timeless!

I suppose in many ways I am similar to Johnny. I am A retired LEO, I am also an instructor for Concealed Handgun licensing in Texas also now Retired in all my endeavors. I live with my Youngest Daughter her daughter, husband and my 3 wonderful great (2 boys 12&13 plus the baby girl 5) grandchildren. I fear I am also going to contract Alzheimers as my memory is not what it used to be and fading. I was born a week or so after Johnny and I am in pretty good health after surviving 4 heart attacks and double bypass surgery in 2001. I was also a Thespian in High School but did not go that route. I have been a gun enthusiast a pair of 6 shooters on my hips since age 5 or 6. I am also a Retired Karate Instructor and a decent Boxer thanks yo my father who boxed for the Marine Corp. My name is a pseudo name I made way too many big time Enemies in my Law Enforcement Career. Just an FYI It is my opinion Disney is now an abomination with their Lax Moral Standards, Walt was a great man and a patriot but his families greed for the "All Mighty Dollar" has turned them Bad again my Opinion. This Native American Comanche Indian, German Jewish Christian is signing off, going 10~7 out of service.

I think there was some controversy when he made the movie the naked ape in the early 70s which was a sex movie made by Hugh Hefner who also made Crawford the first man to appear fully nude in play girl magazine. But those controversies are pretty tame now that people expect to see famous people named at some point

Johnny in my opinion was the best child actor ever. However I don't know how much of his Mark McCain role was acting since I think that he was just as wholesome in real life. He was so natural. I would like to publicly say that my uncle did not die of COVID or pneumonia. He had Covid and pneumonia the year before and recovered without problem. My uncle was always a very healthy man. Unfortunately, we lost him to the ravages of Alzheimer’s. The family tends to believe that he suffered of Alzheimer’s because of so many head injuries and shaking of his skull during his rodeo days. We have no known family members that had Alzheimer’s until uncle Johnny came down with it. It is very hard to watch your love one slip slowly away.

Please correct me if I'm wrong .either way I guess is right. When my Grandkids call me Pa it's just a feeling that comes over me. I can't explain the closeness I have with my little blessings. They ask me why I wanted to be called Pa. So I told them the truth. And the truth is when ""Mark"" called Lucas Pa you could feel the love they had for each other. Even though it was a show I really believe that they loved each other in their personal life. They stayed in touch with each other until we lost Chuck Connors "" Lucas "" in I think 1992.
