Meatloaf was known to collapse from exhaustion after performing. He left everything he had on stage.

Hence why a lot of his live performances had fans blowing in his face - it wasn't just for dramatic effect - it was to keep the big guy from face planting. And I in no way mean that to be disrespectful, but to point out that he put absolutely everything he had into his shows. He's a legend in Newcastle where I'm from. He had a bad show in 2007 when his managers had him perform live with a cyst on his throat - he couldn't finish the show and they'd pumped him full of cortisone steroids, so he announced he was retiring and walked off stage in a drug haze. He felt awful about it afterwards and did everything he could to make it up to the local community with charity fundraisers and appearances - he even fired his managers after they refused to pay back the ticket holders of the show. Did it work? Well I drive past two road signs and a bridge with "R.I.P. MEATLOAF" spray painted on them every time I go to work now - so I like to think so.

Jim Steinman is the genius who wrote the entire album, and he wrote a lot of hits. He died last year. And now the great Meat Loaf is gone. As a 48 year old, I grew up on Meat Loaf, and it's hard to accept. An important part of my generation's youth.

Do not forget the Musical prodigy Todd Rundgren, the only person who would oversee the direction/production of the album, when no one else would, and play lead guitar. It was Todd's masterful guitar playing that gave us the Motorcycle sounds at the ending of the song. How he made a guitar sing as a motorcycle was beyond conceptual at the time.

Brad got it this time. He caught on to what Meat Loaf does best, move your emotions where he wants them to go. And the parallel Lex drew with Freddy Mercury was right on. Anything off the Bat album is worth a listen. Also Dead Ringer for Love with Cher is a really fun, upbeat song and the video is a must. As a side note, the guy on the piano was Jim Steinman, the writer of most of Meat Loafs music. As always, Love you guys.

I was at boarding college at the time in Sydney. I was in year 10 at the time. It was enough to knock The Bee Gees out of the top spot at the time. No mean feat. It was always considered Meatloafs best album by quite a stretch. Personally, I always thought Ellen Foley's version of Heaven Can Wait was the pick of them. Her incredible range didn't change, unlike poor old Meats unfortunately. May Steinman and him rest in peace. 😢😮😊

Meatloaf got his start in musicals on and off Broadway. Thats why he is very expressive in his music videos. He was in the opening of Rocky Horror Pitcher Show when it first came out Off Broadway.

Stumbled over the Bat Out of Hell CD in my dads CD collection as a 10yr old, it looked so different, I thought wtf is this? Played it and I've been a fan ever since, he was so different to every other performer. He saw himself as an outcast an alternative. I saw a show the other night where he was asked about his fans and he couldn't even speak for the lump in his throat, he genuinely loved and appreciated them all. He is a legend of a performer and will be missed greatly. Heaven just got hella loud, ROCK ON MEAT 🤘❤️

@@choice12ozborne Yes, he was in the original Broadway cast of The Rocky Horror Show (then was in the movie version titled The Rocky Horror Picture Show) and also the musical Hair plus a couple other plays early in his career. In 2017, Bat Out of Hell and the album's music was made into a musical play in London and Toronto. It's rock opera stylings with Steinman's style of mini-stories in a song were very well suited. As Lex said, they're "theatrical".

One of my regrets was never getting to see him perform live. I can imagine he was a force to be reckoned with on stage! I also read a story once where he rescued a puppy from a dumpster in a city they were performing in. I believe one of his crew adopted the puppy. A big man with a big voice and an even bigger heart. And you are right- he did live theater also and acted in countless movies. He will be greatly missed 🥲

I won't lie, this video had me with goose bumps and made me cry at the end. This man was, in his prime, rock royalty and I loved him. He had so much charisma that, even with his size, I admit I had a bit of a crush on him when I was younger. I was never a huge Meat Loaf fan, but LOVED Paradise the moment I heard it when it came out, when I was about 21, and grew to appreciate more of his stuff over the years. My two youngest sons, both now in their 30s, were absolute superfans from their preteens though, collected ALL his CDs, even the ones most others never heard of. My wife surprised them in 1996/97 with gold circle tickets for all of us at the Walnut Creek Amphitheater in Raleigh. Needless to say, they were absolutely ecstatic and even though the years had taken their toll by then, Meat still rocked it like only he does. RIP. Great reaction as always.

I love your reaction to this. However, without the full intro you are missing out on the full experience of this incredible song. I live outside of Dallas. The local news was full of commentary on his remarkable career, as this is where he was born and raised. In Columbus, OH, where I grew up, The Rocky Horror Picture Show played the longest run at Graceland Cinema, every Saturday night at midnight. Paradise by the Dashboard Light was always played first, before the movie. Magic times. I am extremely glad you played this, you guys. At 55, I am fortunate to have both grown up listening to him - and Steinman's incredible compositions - on QFM96 repeatedly, and a couple of times in concert. Long live Meat Loaf...!!! Meatloaf was an amazing performer both in music and in movies, he could do it all. When my time comes at least I know that there will be great music on the other side. Can't wait for the heavenly rock music!

Meat Loaf (aka Marvin Lee Aday) was an established theater actor and operatic singer before he met songwriter/composer Jim Steinman in the 70's... the two collaborated and recorded the 'Bat out of hell' album in 1977, that fused rock, opera and classical music... That album sold 14 million copies in the US alone, over 40 million copies worldwide. Decades later, bands like Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation, etc. took that style and made it into the symphonic rock/metal genre. Unfortunately, his vocal problems delayed the next album and problems conflicts arose business-wise between the singer & Jim Steinman... the 2 finally completed the 'Dead Ringer' album in 1981. It went to #1 in the UK but didn't sell in the US... Meat Loaf eventually went bankrupt and spent the 80's releasing albums without Steinman, & touring outside the US. By the early 90's, Meat Loaf & Steinman reconciled and finally recorded & released the "Bat out of hell II: Back into hell" album in 1993, which became a massive hit on MTV and sold 5 million copies. After the 1995 album 'Welcome to the neighborhood' sold platinum, more legal problems arose between the 2. Jim Steinman copyrighted the 'Bat out of hell' title. Meat Loaf used older Jim Steinman songs and others to record the 'Bat out of hell III: The Monster is loose' album anyway in 2006 without Steinman's approval... and continued to record albums. Meat Loaf recorded his version of Celine Dion's 1996 hit "It's all coming back to me now" which was written by Steinman. In 2013, Meat Loaf & Jim Steinman opted to collaborate on a new album on their terms, without any more legal issues, as both were in declining health... their last collaboration was the final Meat Loaf album 'Braver than we are' in 2016. Jim Steinman passed away in 2021, just under a year before Meat Loaf passed away... Before his death, Meat Loaf was a vocal supporter of right wing politicians, baseless conspiracies, and opposed measures against climate change & environmental conservation... He was also vocally against health measures and mandates taken against covid-19, and that is what is speculated to have taken his life in the end... I did not support any of his misguided political and social views, but I have to separate the man from his art to appreciate his music and voice... R.I.P. Meat Loaf

Meatloaf was a unique one of a kind performer. I cant think of any other rockers that sound anything like him. He has so much emotion and passion. A song like this can stir emotions and make me a little teary-eyed even though its not a slow sad song. Another legendary rock icon has passed but he will live on through his music (and movies).

Meatloaf was such a part of my growing up, growing up I would typically get my ass whupped whenever I got caught in my older brother's room but whenever he was out I couldn't resist listening to his 8 Tracks and Bat Out Of Hell was one of my favorites. RIP Meatloaf.

No one ever mentions the classic "B" movie he made and starred in, "Roadie" with Art Carney, Alice Cooper, Blondie, and many others. The character he played, Travis D. Redfish, was the best, most hard working, self-made, and creative roadie that ever existed, and he took after his father's (Art Carney) advice: "It'll work, if you let it." Wiser words never spoken. Highly recommended....if you can find it!
