Not really. Idol did have a sister who was getting married, but on an episode of VH1 Storytellers, he explained that his sister's wedding just gave him the idea for the song. In the song itself, "little sister" is simply slang for girlfriend. He is singing about a woman/girl he loves marrying someone else while he still loves her. This song was in the Wedding Singer, and later in the movie Idol shows up as himself to help Adam Sandler get together with Drew Barrymore. Funny stuff

There used to be a custom in the US regarding a daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock. Dad would get down the shotgun, go find the baby's father, and force him to marry the daughter. It was called a shotgun wedding. I think Billy is playing the older brother who's taking the dad's role. I like to imagine that he's just come back from a stint in prison, ready to straighten out his wayward sister. Creepy song, in the best way possible.

In "White Wedding" Billy Idol is singing hey little sister, what have you done, the song isn’t entirely about his actual sister Jane Broad. At the time of writing the song, his sister was getting married and was pregnant, which helped inspire the song, but it wasn’t all about her. “Sister” is more of a slang in England for girlfriend, similar to “Bae.”

I have often heard Billy referred to as "Punk". But his solo music with Steve Stevens sounds mainstream pop rock. "Dancing With Myself" might have a punk flavor, but all of his hits, of which there were many, are written for mass appeal, and commercially marketed to the extreme. The hair, the look, the leather, the lip, the young ladies slapping their asses (very hot) was all designed to sell albums....the very opposite of "Punk". I have heard of "Generation X" (my generation), but I do not recall MTV playing them. I think the band "Generation X", predates the use of the phrase used by those of us born in the mid 60s....But I think Billy is a Baby boomer
@DMCDObidon3 жыл бұрын
@@raymo6795 Punk is overused for many bands I think. Billy was part of the crowd at Sex Pistols early gigs that ended up in bands. Originally Punk was just a term for these bands that popped up and gave it a go even though none of them were musicians. The Image came later, partly through Malclom McLaren and Vivian Westwood who sold "Punk" clothes in their shop. Yeah I also thnk the look took over from the music, but we eneded up with Goth and Indie where the look arguably was part of the overall image. I'm Generation X as well :) I was born in 1971.
