I'm kinda bummed that Wi-Fi Connection's going away, because I still played a lot of online Brawl, and Mario Kart. Even though they will be going away, I guess it's always best to look on the bright side. At least Mario Kart 8 is coming out RELATIVELY soon! The news didn't bother me THAT much, but why does Nintendo have to make me feel bad by making the online services go away ON MY BIRTHDAY?!

You can use dual-slot mode (dppt), and the ex-safari zone (hgss) to transfer from gen 3, and then just do the wireless transfer to gen v. That'd how to complete the dex in gen IV & V.

Man, this is so devastating. I need this wifi because having friends come over to play is a problem because A) they don't like game B) they are always busy I'm sure a lot of people can relate to this. Heck, that's why we went online. It was fun for everyone. Pokemon trades, Mario kart racing, smash bros brawl. Thumbs up if you're gonna start using 3ds wifi.

I think Nintendo can afford the wi-fi services, but they're cutting them, specifically the Wii's online services, so that people are "forced" to buy the underselling Wii U

Because I'm not much of a multi-player gamer, I mostly use the Wi-fi to download games from the Wii Shop Channel, so my thoughts about it being closed down were pretty much neutral, especially since the Wi-fi can still be used to purchase games and DLC for certain titles.

The reason they shut it down was because the company gamespy that run the servers, Nintendo contract with them expired and the owners of gamespy where hurting financially so they shut off all 3 party services like Nintendo and other services

Everyone, there is a glimmer of hope here, MrBean35000vr has announced on his channel that if we can get enough popularity and support, he will take on the challenge of creating replica servers for the DS and Wii. He has already done it with Custom Track World Wide and he says he can do it if he gets enough support so if you agree with this comment, go to MrBean35000vr's channel and watch his video about this subject.

When I was in college I was really into Pokemon battling buuuut, for whatever reason, my DS did not work on the campus Wi-Fi. Then I discovered the Wi-Fi dongle and battled until my heart was content. That Nintendo Wi-Fi icon will always make me feel a little warm inside.

It is too bad that the wifi for the DS Pokemon games will be gone, but really everyone should have expected this to come. The new systems are out and they want people into them. The same thing will happen to the 3ds and wii u when new systems come out after that. I don't do wifi on my old games anymore (except for brawl and mario kart wii), but Mario Kart 8 is coming soon and so are the new Smash Bros games. People have to think positive about this.

The DS is understandable for the most part, the 3ds has been out a long while. The wii however, not so much. The Wii U is only a year old, and the wii always sold well, meaning there will be a lot of people who've only had their wii about a year who can no longer use wifi. There's also not going to be a smash bros or mario kart alternative on consoles until quite a bit after the wifi is shut down.

Nintendo wouldn't be able to afford to keep the server for a small selection of games. Besides, if they did keep the servers, they would have to take them down sometime soon.

There are really only three games that that people use wifi for. Pokemon, SSBB, and Mario Kart. If I wanna battle online in Pokemon, I'll do it in X. Brawl's lag was too bad to ever play online anyway. Everyone in Mario Kart Wii just used glitches to cheat.

I'm a huge Mario Kart Wii Player. I've played MKWii constantly since September of 2012. I will play on wifi all the time! I still do this to day. In June of 2013, I found out about Custom Tracks (made by MrBean35000vr and Chadderz). They have over 215 tracks that people have made themselves, and most of them look awesome. I can also go on wifi with Custom Tracks too, and play Custom Track Worldwides. Now in May, I might not be able to do this anymore.. And all the fun I've had the past year and a half + would be gone. I say 'might' because MrBean and some of his friends might be making their own server, where we can still play wifi, just on a different server. I'm re rally hoping they can pull this off. If you want to see the video by MrBean, look up MrBean35000vr on youtube, then click on the video talking about Nintendo Wifi Shutdown. So yea.. I play wifi a lot and this affects me a ton..

Considering many Pokémon players still used it for the Gen 5 battling not to mention the other games with it there are a lot more than 7. Maybe in like 3 years when there were 4 - 6 more games for the 3DS they'd have moved on, but not 7 months. Even if there were it's still rather bullshit because in January when they shut down the Gen 5 Global Link they said the non-Global Link stuff would be staying up.

They weren't nintendos servers and their contract expires in May. They weren't too savvy with that jazz back then but now they run their own online infrastructures so it likely won't happen so soon with the U and 3DS

I think you do need black and white, but you will still be able to after their servers shut down :)

All you need is one 3DS to transfer your B/W and B/W2 Pokemon to X/Y, you'll be using the 3DS's connection. I'm sure you know the process of transferring Pokemon from 3rd Gen to 4th, you can still do that as it needs just one DS and doesn't require Internet Connection. and Transferring from 4th Gen to 5th Gen require 2 DS's OR a DS and a 3DS and it doesn't require Internet Connection I believe, it's a direct link between 2 of the DS's so I don't think so. So you're good if you have at least 2 DS's and your Trusty ol 3DS or just 1 DS and your 3DS you're SOLID!

The wifi on the system still works and can connect to other devices locally, but the online service is being shut down. You won't be able to play online on your DS and Wii anymore.

It's terrible isn't our favorite games like Pokemon and Super Smash Bros. Brawl will never have online again. You can't even put them in the Wii U or 3ds cause they can't work on the new internet. Can you Imagine a world without some of the most beloved games of the decade. William Sargeantson So was the wii and 3ds. The Wii U has actually good games, (for whatever is out), and great graphics. The gamepad is also. utilized well. Back then, Nintendo realized that it was all about the game, and nothing but the game. We do not need motion controls, 3d graphics, or another HUD. If you owned a Wii U (which you most likely don't), you would take back your idiotic words. I admit, the gamepad was a bit unncesessary, but there is no reason to hate the Wii U for it. In fact, you don't even have to play with the gamepad.

To be honest, I was a huge megaman fan, and my favourite game(s) were the megaman starforce games! I exploded through those games, and loved every bit of it, and then when i finished the games, I loved playing on wifi. I still to this day continue to play it, atleast twice a week, and man it's gonna be sad to see it go :/

Meh, dont really use WiFi on older stuff, no real need or want to. Theres some speculation that WiFi services are being cut to help prevent cheating. Alot of the exploits require WiFi, so Nintendo might be cutting off WiFi all together for these consoles to prevent those exploited stuff from making its way into this generation.

Blu Bisharp That may be true but Nintendo is always combating these cheats. Improving their fireware to prevent R4s or its clones, encrypting the data to help minimize mining and using checksums like Bad Egg to catch the really REALLY poor cheats. Gen and Edit were the easiest to exploit because it deallt with creating data from data the game already knew, instead of editing the data or forcing the data.
