New to your channel. Watched this video last week. Just finished watching your lovely, somewhat bittersweet “saying goodbye to Komodo NP” video. Enjoyed all the marine life cast. In that video, you mentioned you were often the orchestrator of your own madness and that it’s okay to take the easy route. Flash forward…you bought this boat and w/o a survey. Haha! Love it! Very easy to empathize…career as a marine educator and marine mammal, seabird researcher, worked and lived on s/v, m/v. Now retired and having a right/left brain debate about living aboard in one of several tempting regions around Earth. Lots of examples of people nicely handling the challenges ahead of you. You’ve got this!

Can’t go wrong with a Yanmar engine - they’re even found in small farm tractors and gensets/air compressors for the jobsite, and yea, Ariel’s an older van and some scan tools can’t communicate with them. I had a MAF go out on a Ranger of the same vintage as your van - but sadly OEM Ford/Motorcraft sensors are no longer available. Hope you’ll make it down to Monterey one day!

For your drinking water tanks, consider a silver ion based conservativ. Line Katadyn Micropur Classic MC. It does not effect the taste of the water, unlike chlorine. And will keep it safe to drink. The specific product was the one we used when i worked onboard ships.

Sarah, be sure to reach out to your insurance agent regarding your van. Make sure your dive gear is specifically covered at replacement cost given that you’re going to be spending more time on the boat away from the van.

In regard to the Surveyor, you acknowledge it, so caveat emptor, but the impulse buy on a boat is understandable and I have done it. Next up if she feels right for you than that's all that matters. I don't recall you going over what you were looking for in a boat I cannot offer a real opinion, and it matters little. If you want my opinion on improvements and things to check on or upgrade, I will offer my 2 cents, but like SCUBA gear it should be taken with the same caveat you give to any student when asking for gear suggestions.

Re the name of the boat. May I suggest you don’t make it public if you use an AIS transponder. I know you like your privacy & an AIS transponder data is available on several public apps. Whilst an AIS transponder isn’t required of a boat of your size, I know several yacht owners who fit the transponders so they are visible to freighters on the open ocean - especially at night when off-watch.

Thanks for the concern. I really appreciate it. I figure if I do set up an AIS, I'll have it on for big trips, but will leave it off when I'm getting into a place I'll stay for a while so I'm not too concerned about sharing the name. Loads of sailing channels share their boat names.
