I use clamp lights too, love them. I also use the same LED bulbs but I pull off the plastic cover so they are brighter.

I've been thinking about adding riparium plants to my 40-gallon breeder. My biggest question is how do I give enough light to the riparium plants, but not so much to the aquarium that algae takes over??? My guess is to have the light for the emerged plants on the same schedule as the aquarium light. Any tips?
@plantlifeproject Жыл бұрын
You can put both lights on the same schedule if you want, I have a tank with 2 separate lights, the tank light runs for 6 hrs and the Riparian plant light is on for usually about 8-12 hrs but this one is not on a timer. I haven’t had too much trouble with algae, it helps to have floating plants to block excess light too. I have 3 tanks that have the same light for riparian as well as aquatic plants and that works pretty well for me too.

Thanks for the video! What’s the difference between a grow light spectrum and a bright white spectrum for the plants? Does it make a difference?
@plantlifeproject3 жыл бұрын
Grow lights usually have a wider range of colors. Some plants need the full spectrum especially to flower or produce fruit, but the “daylight “ bulbs mostly have white and some blue which is enough for most Riparium plants
@WhatIsMisophonia2 жыл бұрын
@@plantlifeproject I've experimented a good deal with cheap lights growing plants, and plants need red light to flower. Daylights aren't good enough for flowering; A strong warm white will induce flowering however. Far-red can induce flowering from what I've heard, but I've never tried it. At any rate, some daylights mixed with twice as many warm whites looks good and will flower plants.

Andrew - Half Man Half Cichlid said that LEDs are ideal. Do you know if LEDs are better than clamp lights for growing riparium plants? I ask, because the electricity bill might be better.
@plantlifeproject2 жыл бұрын
I only use LED lights. They are brighter and more efficient.

@@plantlifeproject I'm confused. You recommended growing riparium plants with clamp lights before. Are you now saying that LED is better?
@plantlifeproject2 жыл бұрын
@@extraaccount5830 the clamp lights use LED bulbs, So all of the lights I use are LED. I’m not sure if I understand your question. Are you asking if there is a difference between the aquarium lights and the clamp on style for growing Riparium plants?
@extraaccount58302 жыл бұрын
@@plantlifeproject Sorry for the confusion. What I meant, is what lighting is better for riparium plants? Clamp lights with a daylight bulb, or an LED strip, used for fish tanks generally.

Thanks for the video and i have a question about lighting. Will the 4 foot Sunco LED shoplight be enough for my house plants and my low light aquatic plants such as Anubias, Java fern, amazon sword, guppy grass, hornwart and lucky bamboo?
@plantlifeproject2 жыл бұрын
If you are trying to use the shop light for houseplants growing out of the tank as well as the aquatic plants you mentioned, it depends on how high above the tank the light will be. In the video, I had a shop light hanging high above the tank because of the tall houseplants and I had to use an additional aquarium light for the aquatic plants. If your light will not be that high above the tank, 1 shop light may be all you need with the aquatic plants you mentioned. Hope this helps!

Also, how much in electricity does this come out to, extra per month?

I really needed this video! I’ve been searching for some solutions! May I ask what lights you use for your aquariums? How many watts?
@plantlifeproject3 жыл бұрын
I use the lights that I talk about in this video. On smaller tanks I use The clamp on style lamps with Led 5000 kelvin or higher and on the 75 gallon tank I use a 4 ft. Led shop light for Riparium plants and a hygger 6500 kelvin aquarium light. I’ll have to get back to you on the watts.
@blaisegirl4205 ай бұрын
how hot do those shop lights get?
@plantlifeproject5 ай бұрын
Not too bad. More heat builds up in the metal housing (and is warm to the touch )than in the tank but not an unreasonable amount.
