I've been waiting so long to find a good channel where normal people try life hacks and diy's! You've already disproven 4 hacks that I wanted to try! I gotta binge watch now!

It works better if you use a bag! All plants produce ethylene which regulates germination, ripening, and senescence amongst other things. In theory this should work although it would probably take a day. Fun fact also, that’s where the saying “one bad apple spoils the bunch” is from, because ripened fruit produces more ethylene which causes other fruit near it to ripen faster!

Just looked this up online and found what you said on GrowVeg site,it specifically says use a brown paper bag or cardboard box

Yeah blossom is full of it. However. Banana do help fruits ripen. But should be in a paper bag folded and sealed and left for upwards of a week. Thia works great with or without the banana but the gases coming off the banana help. My grandmother taught me this when I was kid and we would be canning everything.

Thankyou for solving these for me. I always wondered if these worked or not

This one worked for me with a very ripe banana and 2 avocados.. I put them all in a plastic tote , the size of a shoe box. It did take 48 hrs, not 24. The avocados went in very hard and came out perfect. Have not tried tomato’s. I believe you it would not work in 24 hrs. Great video. 😃

If you keep bananas to close to your bread the bread taste gross.

Yes in the video you reference they use a clear container but on GrowVeg it says to use a brown paper bag or cardboard box

When I buy bananas [no overripe] I place them within or just over avocados, tomatoes or anything, thy surely ripe faster. It depends on how green they are, but one to two day do the work. I see that your tomatoes change and riped more. It really worked, it is just that the other tomatoes need more time with the banana. Apples ripe fast if you place them with banana.

It was hard to tell as you were going along because the lighting was different each time, but those before after pics at the end were very obvious. In the original video the banana went all black so I wonder if they should have just said to leave it for 2 days. Great video Again.

This works better in a paper sack, and generally with fewer tomatoes. One or two regular sized ones is best. Still takes a day or two though to really get a good result. Just found your channel the other day by the way! loving the videos you do.

I’ve always used an old apple to ripen bananas. You just put them in a sealed paper bag and it does work.

We often use an apple to ripen other fruits like mangos and it does work but not overnight.. say like two to three days or more depending on the temperature and how ripe the fruit is to begin with.. it is all about the ethylene from the apple and I bet it is the same thing for bananas
@sugarlandbassfishing15266 жыл бұрын
We used to put our green tomatoes on the window sill for a couple of days and they would ripen naturally. I don't know if it was the sunlight or just the natural ripening process.

You will never be able to ripe a tomato overnight,that is impossible.i knew this experiment would fail at once. You could atleast give them three days to a week.

Yeah there is a scientific basis behind this but you need several days to see a difference, nothing immediate like the clickbait video tells people.
@akemimogami6 жыл бұрын
Ethylene actually works! You should just wrap it with paper first. You can also put the fruits close to a hot thing or cut it in some places, which induces the synthesis of ethylene and gets the fruit to ripen faster.
