This video shows what can go wrong with vanlife etc So many people put so many things in to a campervan because they think they need the luxuries in their vehicle etc But if anything goes wrong it can get expensive paying someone to repair problems etc I lived in a car for nearly 2 years and really enjoyed it The less that you put in to a vehicle the less there is to go wrong which makes vanlife cheaper to enjoy When i lived in a car i had no solar no cooking stove no fridge etc and only soutce of power was the 12v in car charger which made it a great adventure just trying to make do with as little as possible

Hi Annie, the whole floor is made the same way but only the edge has the damage. If your furniture gets damaged then I'm sure the problem is a lot worse and it might be time for a full restoration of the motorhome. Wow Ads, I think this is one of the most important videos for motorhome home owners on so many levels. - Never ignore the warning signs/clues of trouble. - Actively search for problems. - Every warning needs thorough investigation to "root cause", with no assumptions/rose tinted glasses. The sooner it is investigated and fixed, the better. - DON'T PANIC - Habitation / damp checks are vital. Many owners seem cynical as to their value, but once everything is covered in laminate there is little evidence, in the early stages, of what is going wrong underneath. - Now we can understand why manufacturers are so insistent on annual habitation check history as a condition of warranty claims. - How complex/expensive rectification work could be, and how rapidly the costs could escalate, if early signs missed. - With motorhomes, and coachbuilts in particular, there are so many opportunities for water to get where it should not, from day one. As they age it will only get worse. - How careful you have to be when buying a used motorhome, and why a current, independent, damp survey and habitation check history is so important. Always look below the surface, head over heart. - Why car manufacturers stopped using wood years ago! - AFTER a customer has bought a motorhome the dealer should take them to the service department, and make them watch this video, so that they understand the small print, and then book the first check/service for one years time!
@HermanHitstheRoad4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Simon, great comments there. I particularly like the last point. I can imagine the dealer saying "now, before we can allow you to drive away your new motorhome we need to show a documentary on what can happen if you don't look after it. Please take a seat". 🚐🚐🚐👍

That looks scary, looking forward the rest of the repair. I looks like our Hymer had some leaks at the back at some time but no damage to the floors or walls that I can detect. Someone has repaired the seams with tape, looks a little ugly but seems entirely effective - we’ve been out in very heavy rain for a Long weekend but no internal signs of water ingress. How did you repair your seams? I’m thinking of asking a Hymer dealer to do a professional repair, just wondering what you did and if I could do it - I have a German version of Chaz called Dav! Thanks for the inspiration, we watched you videos, before we bought our Hymer, our first adventure into motor home life. We live in SW Germany, near the border with France and 30 just bought a 2005 Hymer B624, mostly in great condition about 2 months ago, we manage to get away every other weekend and loving it. Bought some tee shirts and mugs from your site, so happy Hymer owners.

How did you repair the the seams between the panels? Someone has done a repair on our Hymer, with tape it looks a little ugly but seems to be effective. I was wondering about re-doing it myself or taking it to a Hymer dealer for a professional job?
@HermanHitstheRoad4 жыл бұрын
Hi Hummel Hymer, I noticed that there was a water stain just above the door on the inside. I then found a small gap in the seam just above the door which I fixed with Sikaflex. If you want to fix yours properly you'll need to do some investigation. The length of the tape might indicate the extent of the problem. If the tape is a few cm then use Sikaflex but if it goes all the way along the seam then it may require a new seam 😞. Anyway, it sounds like you are really enjoying the motorhome life and we're glad that we inspired you to give it try 👍👍. And thanks for your purchases, we hope you're pleased with them.
