Here's the opening from the 1984-1986 detective series "Riptide," which featured Perry King, Joe Penny, and Tom Bray (plus assorted bikini'd lovelies).

I'm always surprised to learn some of these show ran for such short times - seemed like years and years when I was little.

Same, add summers lasted for years. Time just moved slower as a kid. Now it won't slow down.

You said EXACTLY what I thought. I have Roku and was looking up old shows I haven't seen in decades. I always think of this one. Roku returned nothing so I did a Google search. That's when I saw it ran for only 3 seasons. I JUST like you thought it ran longer than that. Sigh. But I fondly remember this show so much.

Right, thought this got at least 4-5 seasons.

At a time when an hour show ran 55 min compared to 45 min today with commercials. A lot of shows were shot like 2 hours movies cut into two parts. 70s & 80s a season was about 25 shows where today it's about 15 shows a season.

Another great show by Stephen J. Cannell. All these shows had great theme songs.

Absolutely true. Mike Post did the theme music for most of the shows. He’s a musical genius. The Who actually made a song about him.

Decades just had weekend marathon this past weekend of riptide. I had never watched the show as I was more Miami vice, a team, knight rider but I love riptide now. I was born in 78 so I was a bit young when it was on.

In the 80s, all the best TV shows prominently featured helicopters. Riptide, Airwolf, Blue Thunder, The A Team. Even Miami Vice had its share of Jet Rangers making appearances.

I remember this show, I would watch the intro theme song when I was 8 or 9 years old in the mid 80s, then go to sleep. I could never get into it, it came on late anyway and I was a young kid. It was too "adult" for me back then, not like Knight Rider or A-Team, which were both directed with children in mind.

1984, when NBC finally became a decent network. Used to watch this following by Remington Steele (didn't care for The A-Team). Loved that beat-up Sikorsky helicopter as Screaming Mimi (I think that was NBC's light-hearted poke at the other helicopter shows that were on at that time (the short-lived TV adaption of the movie Blue Thunder on ABC and Airwolf on CBS) A side note: I worked with a girl named Naomi whose nickname was Mimi. So naturally, we were all, are you a Screaming Mimi? She was a cool chick and she was like, no, I just moan a lot. LOL! You couldn't say shit like that today, but it was a different time in 1984.

Such a cool show. Nice sailboat, cool speedboat, a beat up yet awesome old Sikorsky helicopter, and a classic Corvette. Stories were typical Stephen J Cannell fare. Kind of a Magnum PI in LA instead of Hawaii.

📺 Starting at 12:00 in the afternoon decade network is going to be showing an all day marathon of riptide and it's also going to be an all-day thing on Sunday too. I never seen it and never heard of it but I'm going to watch it, just out of curiosity. From the trailer that I'm watching here, it doesn't seem all that bad of a show and I can't believe I never heard of it either, I grew up in the '80s. Well they did have a lot of shows throughout the 1980s and it was hard to watch every single one.

@jefflovick24103 жыл бұрын
Dude, it’s not the Caribbean, it’s LA. King Harbor Marina in Redondo Beach, to be exact. I’m living only a few miles from there. I think they showcase the location a bit more in other credits.
