I used to swim a lot back in the days. Waking up at 5am, doing a practice, school, short nap and evening practice. I had this motivational speech on my alarm clock. I consider this the best motivational speech out there for swimmers. I am 27 now and all i do now is 1 practice per week swimming just because i like it. I kinda miss that motivation i had for swimming.

Making the little changes will lead to huge spurts! Have hope! Simple changes to your stroke, kick, how many times you breathe, where you hand enters and exits the water, your head position and rotation, and ankle flexibility. Making little changes will boost you quickly and is rewarding, but be hopeful, it may take time!

rise and shine... It’s 6 am and your hand can’t make it to the alarm clock before the voices in your head begin telling you that it’s too early, too dark, and too cold to get out of bed. Aching muscles lie still in rebellion pretending not to hear your brain commanding them to move. A legion of voices are shouting their unanimous permission for you to hit the snooze button and go back to dreamland, but you didn’t ask their opinion. The voice you’ve chosen to listen to is one of defiance. It says that there was a reason you set that alarm in the first place, so sit up, put your feet on the floor and don’t look back because we’ve got work to do. Welcome to the Grind. For what is each day but a series of conflicts between the right way and the easy way? Ten thousand streams fan out like a river delta before you, each one promising the path of least resistance, but the thing is, your headed upstream, and when you make that choice, when you decide to turn your back on what’s comfortable and what’s safe and on what some would call “common sense.” Well that’s day one. From there it only gets tougher, so just make sure that this is something that you want because the easy way out will always be there, ready to wash you away. All you have to do is pick up your feet. But you aren’t going to are you? With each step comes the decision to take another, you’re on your way now. This is no time to dwell on how far you’ve come. You’re in a fight against an opponent that you can’t see but you can feel him on your heels, can’t you? Feel him breathing down your neck? You know what that is? That’s you. Your fears, your doubts, your insecurities all lined up like a firing squad ready to shoot you out of the sky. But don’t lose heart. While they are not easily defeated, they are far from invincible. Remember this is the Grind - the Battle Royale between you and your mind, your body and the devil on your shoulder who is telling you “this is just a game, that this is just a waste of time. Your opponents are stronger than you.” Drown out the voice of uncertainty with the sound of your own heartbeat, burn away your self doubt with a fire lit beneath you, remember what we’re fighting for, and never forget that momentum is a cruel mistress. She can turn on a dime of the smallest mistake. She is ever searching for the weak place in your armor - that one tiny thing that you forgot to prepare for. So as long as the devil is hiding in the details, the question remains, “Is that all you got? Are you sure?” When the answer is yes, when you’ve done all you can to prepare yourself for battle, then it is time to go forth and boldly face your enemy - the enemy within. Only now you must take that fight into the open, into hostile territory. You’re a lion in a field of lions all hunting the same elusive prey with a desperate starvation that says “victory is the only thing that can keep you alive.” So believe that voice that says you CAN run a little faster, you can throw a little harder, and that for you, the laws of physics are merely a suggestion. Luck is the last dying wish of those who want to believe that winning can happen by accident. Sweat on the other hand, is for those who know that it is a choice. So decide now because destiny waits for no man and when your time comes and a thousand different voices are trying to tell you that you’re not ready for it - listen instead to that lone voice of dissent - the one that says “You are ready, you are prepared, it’s all up to you now.” So Rise and Shine.

Certainly motivational to say the least. At 6am I’ve already been up an hour; meditated, yoga and breathing, ready for my workout, run or swim (alternating) but still I need little video clips like this to remind me why I do it. For me, it’s because during and after; I feel alive! I’m 71 years young and will continue to feel this great wonderment of life as I jog through the forest and smell the musty beautiful earth and hear the birds sing, or the great aliveness and accomplishment of having a great workout or refreshing swim. I’m not a competitor athlete but this made me smile and eggs me on to yet another day. Weekends off ;-)

Most certainly,discipline it what gets you going for the long mile,motivation is fleeting.But don't underestimate motivation;its what causes you to go the extra mile,to reach a new high.The mistake people make is that they substitute motivation for discipline.What i'm trying to say is that you start with discipline,motivation comes later.
@robh541010 жыл бұрын
You are most certainly right... Although often it happens in reverse for me, it's discipline that gets me to new breakthroughs/milestones as motivation quite often never shows up. Motivation should supplement discipline but never ever be expected to replace it. Motivation is so fleeting... one day the planets may align, you get a full undisturbed nights sleep, great nutrition etc and you wake up full of motivation to take on anything... but 30 minutes into a hard workout, run, work day etc its discipline that's pulling you through!

For those of you who say this video is lame because the person is getting up at 6am, and you get up earlier, you're missing the point. It's not about waking up early, it's about finding the strength to do something with your life. So if you're waking up early for work, good on you, keep being productive. And for all the others who think it's boring. you're probably also missing the point, which is sad. The message is simple, do something good with yourself.

Swimmers GET this more then most other athletes do. There is something so controlled and the same about the same pool environment day after day. The love hate pool relationship. You mentally stare at the pool to overcome your time block challenges. Some days the water feels thicker, some days thinner. Sometimes just enough people in the pool to piss you off because you feel there ripple and its messing up your stroke. Then you think whats the point if you are practicing bad technique. All this to say! Brian get back in!!! Let muscle memory take over. DON"T THINK DO!!!!

i am 15 from israel and i used to swim competitidly 6-7 km per session 7-8 days a week. i retired about 7 month ago becuase i didnt feel the same feeling that i have before, it became a torture. i found out about street workout and i love it. i feel alot better, i have alot more time to invest in study and i watch videos of it all the time. Belive me i had this conflict and it took me about 1-2 years to fully understand what i want."You gotta dig deep and ask yourself who do you want to be, what are you going to do and how. If you really want to retire make sure you want it and plan what are you going to do after this choise. I hope i help some of you understanding themselfs.

i may not be the fastest swimmer (probably pretty slow) but i love my sport. I always find myself scared of how the other swimmers view me, and get frustrated with myself when i don't work as hard, but this video is helping. - a swimmer
