Like some parts of the world will have an area that you feel it a lot and maybe it’s because it’s transition from one section to another in the background continuously. Some areas seem perfectly smooth and look good. Some of the areas with drops don’t even have much foliage or object density. It’s just odd

I think this video has nailed my issue with the game. Based on the Digital Foundry video and your video, it doesn't look like the frame rate goes below 48 FPS all that often in "Performance" mode, but I have been noticing extremely frequent judders when playing the game on my 120hz VRR display. Looks like the VRR is straight-up broken in the game.

Vrr not working for me but I think the graphics are pretty good overall. It’s only if you put it next to Tsushima it looks mediocre. But what game dosnt look mediocre next to Tsushima? I don’t expect cutting edge from team ninja. On a side note I think this game would benefit from 40fps quality mode

TLOU, TLOU2, RDR2, Ratchet and Clank, all Spiderman games, GoW 1 & 2... Plenty of games do look at least as good as Tsushima. This one looks awful, indeed

Yes I did experience the same stutters in Performance mode with VRR activated and asked myself the same question... The only answer I can find for now is that, as DF had mentioned in the past, VRR is oftentimes not enough to smooth out dips in the lowest range (sub 60 fps) especially when frame times of a given game are inherently incorrectly paced. I did experience a similar situation in Star Wars Jedi Survivor.

problem is that the dynamic resolution is not dropping quick and far enough to stay above 48fps. We need a patch to make the DSR more aggressive

VRR Works but digital foundry said its frametime / ms goes to sometimes to 200-300 ms which results in stutterin. The game simply isnt optimized but VRR working as it supposed to be

Try to turn off VRR entirely it may help for performance mode.Because in some games on PS5 , VRR not removes statters but add some more

Fair video, I have an LG Cs, just got to Edo and walking through the temple garden I see game optimiser actually drop 59 - 54 in performance mode. I tried forcing vrr off and on and it definitely does "something" but both still choppy turning camera. Game usually runs OK at I'd say 57-59. They made a great game but I really hope they keep releasing performance patches. Patch 1.002 made a clear improvement to Performance mode. Crispy solid 60 would be so nice. Its weird that the game is not yet featured on Team Ninjas website. I don't understand why give us graphics and especially Ray tracing modes? Just pick one and make it polished. Cheers.

It's not that vrr is not working it's that the engine is targeted around 30/60 frame intervals like the last games using this engine. Which means that it creates camera stutter if you fall outside of a fps interval. Other games have this behaviour such as the recent enshrouded.

Had no issues forcing VRR in RoTR. Using a 77" A80J and game has been fine in most all modes w VRR (when within the window, Performance Mode is ideal atm)

Japanese devs hate good framepacing with their 30 fps locks. Dragon’s dogma 2 has the same problem currently with their quality mode

Can't wait for the PC version.. I love team ninja's games, but they aren't very good at graphic stuff. Nioh 2 on PC works just fine with VRR at least, but I noticed it didn't support arbitrary fixed refresh rates which was a problem for me as I much prefer BFI over VRR, and 60fps vsync'd had stutter issues but 120fps vsync didn't, so I played that whole game at 120fps with extreme upscaling last year, lol Still Ronin looks beautiful on your TV! HDR truly fix the game's bad contrast and colors in SDR. Everyone is trashing Ronin for the graphics yet nobody but you seem to be playing in HDR.

Strange because I stried to play Nioh 2 with VRR on PC and it straight up didn't work using a 4080 on a LG C3 also tried on a QN85c and no matter what settings it just didn't work.

The problem is, Team Ninja games only look good at 30, 60 and 120. If you drop any frames you get stutter because the camera is not designed to do that. You can't lock those games at arbitrary framerates. I have a 4080 and Wo Long drops some frames at 120fps due to the effects... And it feels horrible

I don't have Rise of Ronin, so I can't comment on the specifics here, but if I may speculate for a moment: Could it be that the game has severe stutters for other reasons (such as the game slamming the CPU for a brief second, or something else) that the game actually stops and therefore stutters? If the console has to literally wait for something, VRR will do nothing to smooth out those stutters.

same problem with a samsung q70T although on the TV panel put VRR any mini-drop below 60 fps, immediately causes a perception of stuttering.

If the drops are cpu related VRR wont save you. The frame time spikes will cause stutter regardless. Same issue in some areas in cyberpunk as well as in jedi survivor

vrr with rayracing mode frame rate unlocked is smooth but the graphics mode with vrr is not smooth when frame rates are unlocked.

Love the game but I find the performance issues weird (playing on a C9). VRR operates at the display end not the game end, no? A game doesn’t have to ‘support’ VRR. Maybe someone can explain.

The game certainly doesn't look good enough for how bad the performance is. GOT runs at a solid 60 fps while having beautiful landscapes and an even larger seamless open world.

Manually locking the ps5 to 1440p plus graphics mode with uncapped frame rate mode is near perfect for me.

I have definitely stopped playing until they fix the problem. This combat needs a lot of fluidity the experience when it loses 60 fps, even with VRR, is bad. It affects the perception, fluidity and pace of the combat a lot. I don't think it's a problem of VRR not working as much as it is that the frame time is very bad.

Turn off HDR and use HLG if your tv has it. On Rt mode it feels fine. Everyone complaining avout visuals but havent hears anyone dive into gameplay details hmmm sounds like yall play for 20 minutes to look at options and go back to fortnite

Mines sometimes experience stuttering when you about to start any missions but only sometimes im using performance mode. in my qn90 only some flickering in mud area .but the the game is fun although the story is not organized a bit.
