Available now on PC, RISING STORM 2: VIETNAM is the sequel to Rising Storm, PC Gamer magazine’s 2013 ‘Multiplayer Game of the Year’, published by Tripwire Interactive and developed by Antimatter Games. Command your team to victory in massive 64-player battles with authentic weapons, aircraft, and maps that pit conventional military forces against guerrilla forces.
One of the voice actors for the new ARVN forces, featured in the new ARVN Content Update for Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, is Joseph Tran. During the recording sessions for the game he asked his father to come along to act as an adviser and mentor for the role. Turns out his father is Thanh Tran, also known as "Joe." During the war Joe was awarded the Bronze Star, while a Staff Sergeant in the ARVN, for saving a another soldier's life under fire, while operating with US forces in September 1968.
We couldn't resist the opportunity to ask him to talk a little about his experiences and about his thoughts on the voice acting his son was doing. As you'll see Joe was really happy his son gets to play the "good guys" for once!

@@sinkliner3836 Kinda. Its not too difficult to understand at least for me. You may get confused on a few words since the South and Northern people use different words on a few things. But generally you can still understand each other perfectly. If you really want a really difficult accent to understand, the Hue accent is the one.

@@tomlee4018 I would say that the accent and vocabulary all changed. When two generations of Vietnamese start speaking to each other, people would notice the accent 100% even if they are not Vietnamese. @@kwerty9671 South VIetnam was not free. It was a Catholic dictatorship under Ngo Dinh Diem. This government was overthrown with the support of the US after a loss of support due to the persecution of Buddhists and failures against the PAVN/NLF. It was then ruled by a succession of military juntas. Persecution and oppression of peoples continued under Duong Van Minh and Nguyen Khanh's government. The US actually pushed for the Diem government to carry out land reforms like the North, in order to prevent more areas from the countryside turning to the communists.

We left and cut back on supplying the ARVN with ammo and weapons (which translates to low manpower, that leads to less areas under control, and a badly stretched military), thanks to a Democrat controlled Congress which is one of the reasons why the ARVN lost. Funny enough history almost repeated itself during Iraq and Afghanistan because the Democrats wanted to do the same thing, but it was prevented.

@@gooddoggo3547 You're applying post Cold War thinking into the Cold War. During that time nobody knew if the domino theory would be true, nobody knew communism is a big failure (except for the people in said communist nations). If anything, we should've sided with Ho Chi Minh when the French wanted Indochina back after WW2. America was the big nation after WW2 because it was the only power that came out undamaged by the horrors of war, so we should have threw our weight around to destroy European colonialism; the very thing that dragged us into Vietnam in the first place.

Agree. But you can play it offline with bots, all by yourself if you want to. To do that, open console (F3 by default) and type: " Open VNTE-NinhPhu?maxplayers=64 " , press Enter and the game opens. Then open console again and type " Addbots 30 " and press Enter. This will add 30 bots and the game is ready to play. Note that you can open any map, the "NinhPhu" is just an example of ARVN map. Type in any map name and it will open. The "Addbots 30" will add 30 bots. You can type in any bot number you want, but not more than 64.
