Keep in mind that GDI engines use a noisy high-pressure fuel pump. It is a mechanical pump that puts out around 3000 PSI and it will always click. My Tacoma with dual injection has all kinds of insulation in the area of the high-pressure fuel pump and has been noisy since day one. No valve lifter noise but plenty of fuel pump noise. Rislone will not fix normal fuel pump sound. It only removes sludge and varnish.

I was using Rislone when it came in steel cans. It worked miracles on old, neglected engines that we bought for our truck fleet. It also made a good light lubricating oil for electric motors. It was called Rislone Engine Treatment in the late 1960's and early 1970's, long before the industry transitioned to plastic bottles.

Last week I started up one of my older cars a 94 Grand Cherokee with a 5.2 L V8 I’ve owned it for about 10 years put about 30,000 miles on it.(not a primary car just a “station car”). I haven’t driven the jeep in about two weeks and I noticed that on start up last week a ticking sound from the I’m thinking the number two cylinder This engine always sounded great prior to that. I bought the Rislone because it was the only product that mentioned anything about Quieting noisy lifters at the parts store. I did an oil change and added 1 quart of the Rislone at first it did nothing but I let it idle for about 5 or 10 minutes after the oil change just to let iy cycle through. The sound completely went away and I think the engine sounds better today then it has ever sounded during my entire ownership of it so far I’m completely impressed with it. I mentioned this to my father about Rislone and he said that his father always swore by it back in the 50s and 60s and 70s and I think from now on when I do An oil change I’m going to just use 1 quart of that because I am completely impressed with it I cannot believe that the sound completely went away but time will tell if it comes back obviously I don’t believe in the miracle in a jar But I can tell you the ticking noise completely went away in this jeep.

rislone used to make these 1 quart bottles that just said rislone on them and didnt have all that engine treatment stuff on there. It was blue like that and its probably the same stuff. Instructions said you could dump all your oil and refill the motor entirely with rislone and let the engine idle for 30 min. Then dump it and add fresh oil. I did that on an old chevy twice. It seemed to help some of the ticks a little bit but i did notice when i dumped the used rislone it was super dirty. I ended up replacing a head gasket on that car years later (i dogged it pretty bad) i remember noticing that the engine inside was super clean. Maybe frequent oil changes (every 3k) and even the rislone as well helped. Not a miracle cure though but it does something.

Noticed that after just 400 miles on the fresh oil change, the new motor oil had become VERY dark, near black. Obviously, this engine was full of deposits that the Rislone removed quickly & completely . Thanks for the comment. If you already have a ticking sound I would recommend Lucas since I found that one worked better. I have a product review video on my channel for that one as well. It’s important to always check your oil levels, because if they get low you can cause problems which can result in major repairs. You don’t want to over fill the oil either. I wouldn’t recommend adding both additives (Rislone and Lucas), just one or the other.

Likely need to run it through a few oil changes before noticing a big difference. It take some time to get the sludge contaminates out that might have built up in the lifter. Change oil more regularly. Every 2500 miles or 3 months if one doesn't drive too much is a good rule of thumb on high milage rigs. Might seem excessive, but hey, what's a guy have to lose if he gets to 300k plus on engine.

The Hyundai/Kia GDI engines just seem noisier, not sure if it is their design or direct injection in general. I do oil changes every 5k miles with synthetic and it is about as quiet as it was when I bought it. A rattle on startup can also be timing chain so don't ignore the problem thinking it is lifters.

I enjoyed the video but it’s a Kia. And they have motor bearing issues on the 4 cylinder due to the so called Siamese short block. Anyway have had valve issues on older cars and used many products from auto parts stores. Probably 12. I’m sure most did some good somewhere but never took the hydraulic noise from the one lifter I had ticking. I was at an Ace store and saw a product called tufoil and bought it and within one hundred miles it was gone. And the tick never came back after several oil changes. And I never could find the product again. So I assume it had been discontinued. This was back in the 80s. I now have a 2016 Kia and have the valve tick. I’ve tried the same auto parts stuff and not really helping much. I see now you can still buy it but it not sold In stores. I have order it directly from manufacturer and will try it on my Kia to see. I also see it has a great following. This product is now in the Guinness book of world records. Here a part of what it says on the fluoramics website who makes the product Engine Treatment There are so many engine treatments on the market today, it’s all but impossible to stand out from the crowd without resorting to dramatic infomercials or paying some high-priced spokesperson to give a convincing testimonial. You may have noticed that we don’t do any of those things and yet we’ve earned worldwide notoriety. Several years ago, the Guinness Book of World Records chose Tufoil as “The World’s Most Efficient Lubricant.” To this day, we are the ONLY engine treatment in the Guinness Book. So far, no one has been able to break that record! We’ll never see the low gas prices from years ago again! But we can get the most out of what we have to pay today. Smart drivers rely on Tufoil® for help in creating improved engine efficiency! Tufoil is “The World’s Most Efficient Lubricant.” Efficient-running engines use less gas! Tufoil was tested by the United States Government at their federal laboratory (The National Bureau of Standards, now known as NIST) and passed with flying colors. NIST determined that Tufoil has a surface friction so low that it makes Tufoil the most slippery substance known to man.

Not only that it's a Kia; your engine is filthy! Geeze, no wonder it's ticking. Keep your engines clean folks. You will be surprised at how much that helps in maintaining an engine and for a very long time.

Well you also can’t record the noise before rislone with the oil cap off and after rislone with oil cap on. Of course it would be louder. And at different angles or positions.

I like the product, lab tests have shown it contains about 10% ester by weight however as far as additives not a ton. Some phosphorus, calcium, boron really nothing in the bottle has a higher concentration of additives than normal motor oil so it kinda dilutes stuff a bit but the ester is nice.
