It's 2024 and the Ritter Hogue has Magnacut vs the Griptilian's S30V.

One minor difference between both the G10 & paper (black) micarta Grips vs the FRN ones is that there’s no defined outline or groove surrounding the diamond patterns on the scale sides. Also that checkering is not as deep. The micarta one is just slightly heavier than the G10’s and both are notably heavier than the FRN Grips.

Do you own a black micarta version ? If yes , which micarta is it , the polished , or the fury type that gets grippier when wet ?

Brian F It’s what is called ‘paper micarta’ so it’s smooth unlike canvas micarta. It actually doesn’t look much different than the G10/20CV handles. It’s not lacking for traction for most any use you’d do with a medium sized folder.

Thanks for doing this video. Well done! I got my Ritter/Hogue order last Thanksgiving. About two days after receiving that order. I sold my still new in box, DLT Exclusive Griptilian. I was tired of the Mel Pardue blade shape, and still have a few of his knife designs. I just couldn't see any sense in keeping that one ($234) around any longer. It just didn't trip my trigger. As far as G10 knives go. The Benchmade 560BK-1 Freek, this Ritter/Hogue RSK MK1 G2, and a Spyderco Manix 2 Sprint run knife. Trip all of my triggers! When we have knives like these in hand, like you said. Where do we go from here? I know I'm not shopping for any G10 knives right now. : - )

Thanks for the review, I just ordered a Doug Ritter Houge RSK MK1 G2. The price has gone up. I got the purple one for $179.95. The Black version was out of stock.

I'll buy a Hogue knife when they change their warranty policy to reflect the service rendered to customers of many other knife manufacturers. Good vid BTW. I have both the Ritter Benchmades in full size and Mini and the KnifeWorks BM551-1702 Micarta model. Great knives. I don't get the whole carbon fiber craze on any knife. Too slick. To me it's just like a fancy paint job on a car; aesthetics without as good a handle grip. The Micarta is classier in an understated way with a much better feel to it.

@@SinnMaster I did pick up a Houge Ritter next gen with a f&%ed up pocket clip from a client who didn't like the added weight and length. The rest of the knife was like new , hardly used. I just sold it a few weeks ago for the same reasons but added a new Lynch clip. I just still prefer the original by Benchmade to the Houge redo. All the supposed "advancements" in the Hogue are just "Hoguespeak" as far as I'm concerned and not worth replacing the Benchmades with. If you buy into the hype, hey... to each his own. I've bought some Hogue grips for some of my firearms but they just don't have any knives that really do anything for me.

I just ordered a Hogue Ritter..I have owned the G10 version of the griptilian for a couple years. Great knife, but there are a lot of small things they missed. I'm hoping my Ritter version fixes all those issues.. We shall see 😀

@@hificat101 got mine in yesterday. I can't believe I've waited so long to get one. Not only is it beautiful, purple Gmascus, it's very well built. Normally I find a few little things to not pic about, but nothing really to complain about. It's what I wanted my griptilian to be this whole time. 😀

What I have to is WOW just got my Ritter absolutely amazing g10 is done extremely well and this knife is unbelievably smooth blown away by fit and finish on this knife the thumb studs are done very well just incredible and I own knives five times this price you have really nealed it with this video knife is amazing

Only thing it's missing is full liners. Probably doesn't make much difference in real world use, but it just talks to quality.

So, EXACTLY what does RSK stand for! Outside of Sypderco and Benchmade, maybe 8-9, over the years, I'm kind of a newbie. I'm definitely pulling the trigger on the RSK in the video here. I just got a new Bugout, and it's a fine knife, but it's simply smaller than I like. Lord knows I have no intention of using a knife in a confrontation, but frankly, that's one of a handful of reasons I carry where more serious measures just aren't available. So that said, I believe the Bugout could honestly destroy my big hand if I lost my grip. And that issue would obviously be an issue in some day in, day out tasks as well.

I recently picked up the Flat Dark Earth DR Hogue in 20CV.... I now have both of these knives and I cannot tell you which one is better. They’re both outstanding. I believe that this DLT exclusive is the best available production version of the Griptilian. You simply cannot go wrong with either.

Excellent video review; thanks Metal! I have to say, I’ve had a mini grip for 20 years but refused to by a full sized. The cheap plastic feel & sound it makes... for over $100 no way. And to add scales to the price for an ok blade.. the new Hogue Ritter; where have you been all my life?? Ordered mine over weekend and scheduled delivery for this week. Don’t own any Hogue knives so I was slightly uneasy, but I feel positive it was a great decision. If BM comes out with a G10 Super Freek with different steel that’s uncoated...I’ll be waiting.

Microfiber cloth or Q tips. Cans of air at times. I actually hate pulling apart Benchmades. Other knives do not bother me. And unless an Omega spring breaks we shouldn't have to even take one apart. And as much as I use Benchmades and in some pretty rough areas I have never ever had an Omega spring break ever. And I mean we are talking hard use in combat situations.

I did get something out of this, 1x Doug Ritter RSK MK1-G2. =) My first real knife after: a really nice to carry, but developed a blade wiggle Cold Steel Recon1, and a failed Spyderco, whatever Chinaco version I don't remember.

Great review. Both are great knives . If you don't own one , just get one . I totally agree, its one of the Best edc and all around knives for that matter , on the planet . Theirs a reason they've been around for so long .

I followed your advice on the Ritter - Houge knife, I unfortunately received a defective knife, where the privet screw would not turn. I was told that because I had marked (not stripped) the screw I would have to pay for shipping. Then there was a list of things that would void the warrantee, like writing on the box. I'm sorry but this was a poor comparison of knives. Even if the knife is "better" without good customer service the knife can't be better. I do wish to be clear, my problem isn't with Hogue, but with knifeworks, and the Ritter - Hough model. I have two other Houge knives that I love! I figured you might be interested in what happened to me following your advice. This is the first time I have been disappointed in following your advice, and to be fair there are a lot of good reviews for the Ritter - Hogue I'm also disappointed that Doug Ritter chooses this company, as the only distributor for his knife!

@@metal_complex I have never been asked to do so much to return a defective item before. This wasn't a case of I didn't like it, it didn't work. I'm disappointed that you agree with them. I was in sales all my life and when I made a mistake, I fixed it. I did not make my customers jump through hoops.

Ritter Hogue is one of only 2 knives she's ever seen and made an unsolicited comment "that's nice looking". Other was the Elementum 2 in jade. Now if they'd just do another run of Ritter Hogues in MagnaCut. And I mean a doozy. They should make like 5K, and build a $25 donation to Knife Rights into each one. On top of Doug's money. Only change should be leaving the area under the clip unmilled and flat.

I think they should of milled out under the clip to have it sit flat with the scales plus have the ramp side a smooth section, so it doesn't eat up the pocket and slides in better.

@@dcarmon80dc that is an entirely true statement. I have one, and usually don't use a pocket clip. I typically wear Proper cargo pants, and have 2 pockets that are only for knives, but will eventually Dremel the space under my clip down.
