I’m 62 and foundations have come such a long way. I’ve been wearing foundation since high school (something from the drugstore finished off with a dusting of Cornsilk powder- anyone here old enough to remember that powder🤡). There are just so many choices now I get overwhelmed! I wore nothing but L’Oréal foundations until the arrival of YT and the beauty channels. I currently own 10 foundations which would have sounded unbelievable to me in my 20’s. Shelly’s reviews are so good and thorough and she has dry skin like me, so when she likes something I have to try it. I already have the Thorn Oil so I may as well get the RF. My current favorite is also the NARS Light Reflecting. Well I better wrap this up. I get so excited when Shelly gives her stamp of approval.

I have 14 foundations, I feel ashamed I have so many and wasted so much money. But I am still looking for the HG, which I don't think I will never find, because there is nothing really wrong with these foundations. It's just that my skin is lousy. Out of this bunch, my favorite is Chanel No 1. Strangely enough, I have not got the Nars one, but I think I will succumb soon.

I am 60 with v dry skin. I used this over the R de Fille Thorn oil. Once it settled, my skin looked flawless. There was quite a lasting herbal smell.

I have the 3 drop foundation, I love it. It’s great for dry skin! I don’t use 3 drops, 1 or two drops are definitely enough coverage.

I have this & LOVE it! Its also really great to add a few drops to dry foundations that I don't like too much. It's a good mixer! LOVE IT!! I like it with a brush more than any other way FYI. I even add one drop to my concealer before applying!

Shelly I have been patiently waiting for you to review this! I love RDF so much, I own quite a bit of their products! I will say I don't like the scent in their products, it's very herbaceous and earthy smelling. But they perform and look so beautiful on the skin! I wear this foundation in shade 110. I bought the concealer but the shade was way too yellow so I gave it to a friend.

I'm so glad you liked this! I've always wanted to try their eye soots and I hear the mascara is amazing, & their lip oil. I was allergic to their thorn oil worry about the frankincense in this. After squaring to buy no more foundations for the foreseeable future, I ordered the full size of 120 and the concealer in Galatea after first trying the sample packets. it’s really a lovely product line. I have a tendency to get a tiny bit shiny in the tea zone and have found that I need to set it with the By Terry hyaluronic acid powder. After that I’m good to go. ❤❤

The thorn oil is pricey, but I think it's worth it. I have combo skin and use Tretinoin. I use it on the dry part of my cheeks and on any flakey bits and the RDF foundation lays so nicely on it. I will note that the lab release of the foundation does have a slightly rosemary, herbaceous scent to it. I am not sure if the wide release does, because I'm still working through the lab release.

Ok Shelly, I’ve got to try this foundation. My skin is soooo dehydrated. Especially under my eyes. Not real dry, but a bit dry. The dehydrated skin is driving me crazy. Have you tried Trinny London Cc foundation and other makeup products? Also was curious if you’ve heard of Aimee products? Skin obsessed Mary has dry, dehydrated skin and lives in Ireland, she loves those skin tints. Hope you will review them if possible. Enjoy you so much. Love your content and your giggles.

due to its oil based, wont it break the sunscreen underneath ? oils are the best to remove sunscreen so im not sure about using oil based product over sunscreen

Would you use the merit oil and then, the thorn oil and then, the makeup?

I think I would do the Thorn Oil at the end of my skin care in the morning, do my usual get dressed waiting period while my SPF settles, and then do the Merit as the first makeup step. The Merit has that sort of dual-purpose bit where it gives a nice glowy boost to foundation if used with makeup, where I am guessing from what I see online that the Thorn Oil is like a typical facial oil texture (like a straight-up oil) which for me I currently do in my skin care steps (though I've been known to drop oil into foundations too - but that's what purpose the Merit is currently serving for me).

I must be the only person this foundation doesn't work on. It sits on my skin, looks dry and gathers in my lines. I really want to love it. What am I doing wrong? I do good skin prep (essence, serum, facial oil, moisteriser, sunblock) and use a sonia g foundation brush. Open to any suggestions.

My first step in troubleshooting a foundation is to switch sunscreens. For some reason sunscreen mismatch causes trouble for me (so if I had a chemical sunscreen under it, I'll try it with a mineral one, or vice versa). I also try with and without primer (most foundations I need a primer, but occasionally some work better on me without).

i’m not too familiar on how product placements (layering skincare, etc) works or how ingredients mix… i plan on purchasing the rituel de fille foundation and concealer!!! but i suffer so horribly from dry flaking, patchiness, and separating. i’m currently using sun bum 70spf sunscreen, laneige blue hyaluronic water bank, and face oil by hers. any suggestions on layering to avoid such issues, or even a good facial sunscreen? i’m so lost! 🤦🏻‍♀️😞

since i’m so dry & crease horrible due to my lines, should i bother with a setting/translucent powder ? i dont want to accentuate texture and i love the dewey look. but i see lots of people online use powder so i feel inclined to try it🫠

In most cases no matter what skin care I use in the morning, as long as my sunscreen is the last step and I wait at least 15 minutes or so after sunscreen to start my makeup, it layers well. I rarely powder anymore unless a foundation remains tacky and doesn't dry down. I'd say try without powder and see how it goes.

It's got a similar consistency as the MAC but a bit more coverage. I got the full size bottle and have been wearing it all week (very dry here too) and have had no issues with it being drying!

Greetings from wet and windy Ireland Shelley ... What is the merit face oil like? I have been toying with the idea of either get this or the Rituel de Fille Thorn oil (Theresa is Dead swears by the R de F oil). I have normal to dry skin .. especially around my nose/chin and hairline. The Thorn oil, from i can see, would be a mjor investment, but I am also interested in the Merit one. Any advice gratefully received!! ☘ if it's any consolation I don't know who Kelsy Ballerinie is either ... and I watch a LOT of youtube tutorials 🤣

I've got the RdF Thorn Oil on my to-buy list too! The Thorn Oil looks to me like a typical facial oil consistency (which is fine with me because I'm super-dry - there's pretty much no such thing as an oil that is too heavy for me). The Merit is like an oil/serum hybrid so it's a bit lighter weight. It's kind of like skin care that can also be used for its aesthetics for a glowy look under foundation - where I perceive the Thorn Oil to be more like a skin care step on its own. I'd like use both, applying the Thorn Oil in my skin care routine in place of where I'm currently using a squalane/agave oil, and using the Merit at makeup time as I do now.

I'm wearing the No7 Future Renew SPF day cream, but the European version (I got it in Ireland and its SPF actives aren't available in the US). They now have a version of the day cream in the US but it's different sunscreen actives.

@@goow i do wish this foundation worked on me, but i guess it's all on everything else i put underneath it. since RDF recommends using their thorn oil as primer, i suspect it would have to be something similar for priming but not as pricey as the thorn oil. usually SPF throws everything off on top of it, hence my curiousity on the SPF you used here since the foundation worked well for you. i only use mineral SPF. i might eventually try the Merit oil as an alternative to the thorn oil--if i want to give this foundation another try. i did have an ingredient concern, not sure if it was the foundation or the concealer, but one of them contained lanolin, a known pore clogger
