I was asked to make this for the Topsham Museum because salmon fishing has been a traditional activity at Topsham for over a thousand years. The future for salmon fishing this way is uncertain and we wanted a record before it died out. And what better music theme than Topsham's very own Show of Hands? 'Roots' is performed with the kind permission of Steve Knightley.

@@burntre1 are you honestly asking whats sustainable about a few men on row boats, have you ever seen a commercial trawler? And why should they be ashamed of themselves because they dont live up to your vegan standards? I think you should be ashamed of yourself trying to push your views on others

@@putty2812 they caught, what, 8-9 salmon, that was 10 years ago, if this was repeated today, they would catch 1-2 if lucky, it’s not the method that is unsustainable, it’s the undeniable fact that salmon are on the brink of extinction from the wild, and need to be protected. (for the record I’m a big meat and fish eater, thanks.)

@@burntre1 sounds like you are plucking figures out of the air to me with your 1 or 2 salmon idea, that is a sustainable fishing methord and whilst I agree salmon numbers are at dangerously low levels including the % that are returning to spawn these boys are not the problem water quality and large scale fishing at sea and salmon farms with there harbouring of disease and pests species all play a much high price on salmon numbers

@@putty2812 the numbers are so low that no salmon should be taken, especially those heading to spawning grounds. Of course I’m guessing the numbers, but the point remains and is valid.
