I fully expected to see a leprechaun run through that place. That is one beautiful place and you captured it wonderfully. I don't know where that is but I'm putting a visit there on my bucket list. So peaceful, so nice. I need some peaceful and nice. What amazes me most is that there you are, in an enchanted forest, open fire, tent and sleeping bag but your cooking is like something you would find in a 5 star french restaurant. Are you still going to offer t-shirts? I do want some if you do!!! Great video, Josh.

G'day Josh, enjoyed your video. It's very alien to me that you would have to worry about being seen at your camp, over here in NZ we don't have to worry about that. There are so many vast forests and so many places to get away from the world and enjoy the solitude. Arrive when you like and decamp when you like. I think that you would like it over here in our forests, Josh. ATB cheers from the mountains of NZ ☺☺

I always laugh when I see you carrying that boat anchor of a frying pan that must be at least a few kg's by itself but, OMG !! Did you say that tent weighed 6.9 kg's..?? That is over 15 lbs .. 😮 LMAO . That is insane Josh.. Like carrying around a Thanksgiving turkey. You are a camping beast . Your pack has to be nearing 25kg's easy.. This is the ultimate expression of the difference between camping and backpacking . My freestanding tent weighs less than 1 kg when fully packed; is 100% waterproof and can easily handle storms with winds upwards of 50-60 mph... Thank you for laying out so plainly the difference between a sweet camp and a brutal backpacking hike... This folks.. is the difference... I dont think I'd go out for a backpacking trip if my total pack weight was more than 10 kg's.. Respect!! Love your vids Josh. Absolute beast !!

Great video, thanks Josh. They do say to soak and dry old canvas tents several tumes before use (to swell and set the weave). Dunno what i believe but i have done that, and never needed a proofer. I use nickwax spray on for my kit. Ive used Fabsil on stuff i dont care so much about. Ive stuck with Nickwax as its been the only thing that really served me well on long hikes/long camps...plus on my boots in salt water.

You could use Fabsil to seal the tent if going the commercial route, though it's a bit lightweight so if the water is coming through stitch holes, it's not necessarily enough to seal the seams as well. You could also make your own proofing by buying a cartridge of 100% silicone (the kind that smells like vinegar - the the other kind won't do) and mix it with white spirits or other similar evaporating solvent until its in suitable consistency - thicker for seam sealing and lighter for overall proofing. One caveat though - once you've sealed the tent, you might start having problems with condensation, since the sealing works both ways ... (I didn't see if that tent has any proper ventilation - but it's not like vintage surplus gear was designed with the soldier's comfort in mind...).

Great video Josh and I’m a new subscriber after that 👍 I have the Dutch army tent and love it too. There are lots of videos about this tent water tightness. I left mine out in rain, but the issue is usually via the zips closers and gaps at the end. Great tent though and really enjoy putting a tarp over for protection 👍 like your laid back delivery and what a place to camp too. All the very best.

Thank you Lee! Welcome to the channel. I think I'll definitely keep a tarp over mine next time 😁

Hi Josh, chilled, no BS camp mate..nice!”” Don’t know what canvas the Dutch tents are made from but I got a (barely) used South African “Campmor” canvas tent that has been up since June last year and used as base camp in the uk and was worried about leaking to start with but it soon fixed itself! It took about 3 good rain soakings before it stopped leaking through stitching holes which need to swell and seal themselves but perfect now. Maybe yours is the same and just needs to hydrate after a long storage? I love the darkness of a canvas tent in the summer mornings but sometimes it’s annoying if bad weather in daytime and you have use lighting coz sheltering in a dark tent 🤷

Great vid! Been watching since you did the Simon a bloke in the woods camp. .. I heard FABSIL is a top waterproofer.. i bought some in a can but have only tried it on leaky raincoat and backpack so far. Not bad but not what I was hoping, however it's the normal FABSIL which was on offer in Millets. .. Since then I found out that there's a FABSIL GOLD which has twice the amount of silicone in it. So may be worth getting that one. ..I tried brushing it on but found was easier putting it in a spray bottle. I also heard that some different tent materials probably like different waterproofers. ie Sil nylon you'd use FABSIL and canvas would be some wax based? I'm no expert I just watched 20000 KZbin videos like yours. Lol. .. hope some of that helps, would love to see your results. Happy camping! .. ps, I also read that PERMETHRIN is a good bug n spider n ticks treatment you put on tents and clothing. ..

So much great info here! Thank you so much for your time. I'll definitely look into all of this, thank you.

@@campingwithjosh was a pleasure mate! Hope some of that's useful, forgot to mention, I think FABSIL GOLD has UV protection added. Not 100% sure as been a while since I looked into it. Also, I tried a mountain warehouse brand of waterproof stuff that you put in a washing machine, but that was a waste of money and am convinced that bag was ruined, but maybe I did something wrong. .. love your chilled out solo wildcamps, thank you for sharing your adventures!

Hi there! I just found your channel and really enjoy your videos, thank you for making them. Could you help me understand something please: in a couple of videos now youve mentioned not wanting to be seen or found, is that just for your privacy and solitude, or is it a legal thing? Im assuming you are camping on common land or parkland, is there an issue with that? Im in the uk and thinking of trying wild camping but dont want to get aggro from anyone
