Used to work at Schenectady GE for 30 years as a welder, in their heyday GE had 5 of those special rail cars, that were made in Italy at the cost of 15 Million each

Interesting information, thanks for sharing! Yeah, I imagine the price tag on those massive cars is quite high.

The cars are 15 million each, these Generators are 20-40 million, depending on size,(output), They are capable of powering whole cities, (ie NYC) Double the price if you are buying the Turbine to turn the Generator. A whole Turbine Generator unit, also can be carried on these cars.GE Power Division, AKA Turbine Generator are THE BEST MADE ,in the WORLD, many made from the 50’s/60’s are still in operation 24/7 /365 to this very day✌️

I'm a little surprised they didn't put the very latest Tier IV GEVO on that to maintain GE's image rather than the first well-worn AC4400 that came to hand

Interestingly these moves usually run with an SD40-3... It was somewhat odd to see the GE leader!

I liked seeing the old New Central Bridge!! wonder why the high priority train was going so slowly?
@TheCheffydave3 жыл бұрын
Printed on the car are speed ratings, EMPTY 45 MPH, LOADED 25 MPH, those generators are BIG money,as such handled VERY carefully
@natgass81023 жыл бұрын
@@TheCheffydave OK that makes sense can’t afford a derailment to get there a little sooner!
@RiverLineProductions3 жыл бұрын
If you're referring to the high priority train going over the bridge (the intermodal) it was because it was running right behind the train in front of it, and the signals were likely not clear.

@@RiverLineProductions Thanks; so where you were filming are the trains coming or headed to Selkirk?
@RiverLineProductions3 жыл бұрын
@@natgass8102 Both. I was west of Selkirk, so the westbounds would be coming from there and the eastbounds heading there.

Nice catch. Would have been nice to see the load shifting back after it got past the bridge. Also, I don't think that big white construct was a generator. Looked more like some sort of pressure tank of some sort. You can see two windows in one of your views.

Hot damn dude that was epic! Pretty sure we saw that car or one like it on our February Folkston trip. YN2 leader too for you...I Foamed a lil bit

Thanks, man! Yeah, the YN2 leader made it even better. I bet that car looked really cool rolling through Folkston!
