Rivers Council Tenure Crisis | Police Command Takes Over 23 LGAs

The political crisis rocking Rivers State, South-South Nigeria, escalated with the directive by Governor Siminalayi Fubara to Council Chairmen to handover to Heads of Local Government Administration on Tuesday. The directive led to clashes between supporters of Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. A police officer and a vigilance man were killed. Following the breakdown of law and order, the State Police command has taken over all the 23 Council Secretariats and some critical government infrastructure in the state. Conventional and anti-riot police officers have been deployed to these facilities to maintain law and order

LGA has no autonomy my brother. The Constitution has made it so. When the matter of LGA autonomy was brought to the states, Rivers State House of assembly was one of the assemblies that voted against LGA autonomy. What goes around comes around!
