You also can add some logs which have fallen into the river, and behind it (and in the embankments) you can place some blocks of podzol, like dead leaves and organic material acumulated

What about trees at the bottom of the river? They can only float for so long.

In a longer time the curves tend to transform to straighter lines, because the curve side are under a huge pressure when water runs into it. If finally the water manages to break through the S-shape it will choose the new path sicne its faster and takes less energy. The old curve with still water in a time becomes a C shaped small lake. Im having hard time explaining it but i hope you get the idea, you can add the small C-shaped lakes besides the river. :)

I love this video. Personally, I really enjoy terraforming the landscape. I like to have fun with rivers, sometimes adding boulders (made of random stones put together) if it's next to a tall mountain, or fallen logs into the river as well. Another cool idea is to put coarse dirt, gravel, and grass around river banks or curves in the river because it gives it a marshy/swampy look. Underground rivers or ponds/lakes underground are cool to make too, as you can make stalagmites and stalactites in the river/lake and above it. So many awesome options in Minecraft!

This really is a great video! Not only does it explain what a river is and how it expands as it moves through the landscape but also does it open possibilities for people that are looking from a medieval builder's perspective. You are also a great builder, not only for buildings but also at terraforming and landscaping. Great job man, keep making vids :)

A very interesting discussion, and certainly useful. You have a lot of very good ideas. One that I'm concerned about is the massive use of stone in your riverbanks. This would never appear in real life, except perhaps in mountainous regions. Nearly all rivers would more likely have banks and a bottom of dirt, coarse dirt (for those with 1.8), sand, clay, maybe a little gravel.

Im not completely sure when this started to be a method, but if it was one in medieval times then try to make a lumberjack area next to a river, and place some logs heading down current towards a town, building site, or settlement.

When a river takes such a "close turn" it erodes the bank and reconnects straight and the curved river bed is left dry. There is actually a term for this but idk what it is.

You could have the river fall into the ocean, called the mouth of the river i believe...and have a seaport by the mouth, or a large gate hanging over the river for certain trade ships or vessels to pass

You could also make a delta and do something with that. Just an idea :) btw madness, great video, i love the cinematic and the phases you go through and talk about. Also another idea, you can also make a glacier with only ice/packed ice and snow. AND in the high mountain ranges, the rivers flow on a high speed causing it to make a steep V-shaped river valley (the river still flows through though). Same goes for the glacier idea, but then the snow/ice had melted (or almost nothing left) leaving behing a wide U-shaped glacier valley. Hope i'll bring up ideas for ya'll :)

Hey Madnes! I have a quastion for you; what program do you use to make the landscape? Or you just build it block by block? If you use a program, can you make a tutorial showing how to make the basics like mountains, roads, rivers, lakes and forests? Thanks and awesome video!

@khongnoi1012
@khongnoi1012 9 жыл бұрын
ICHBinCOOLERalsJeman Terraforming a superflat/blank world may seem hard but terraforming using WorldEdit only takes about 4-5 hours for a pretty large area (this includes the elevation of the land itself and some other small details such as randomization). After that, you have to start building something in order to know what to add/modify.
