Tips for building - Street details (Minecraft)

You could put some carts on the streets and water cauldrons on the corners of the houses like barrels of rain water. Also in the streets you could use gravel and cobblestone to make the roads look more worn. Again you could use the new 1.8 coarse dirt on the sides of the roads or in the roads to give it a more worn look. Awesome video!!!!

I do that too on a friends server. If only there was a way to take everything I did on his server and put it on my own ( I have to get a new one anyway).

In the slums part of my medieval city I use stone bricks for the base of the road. Since it is the slums however, I would like to think that the roads there are not as..."fresh" as the rest of my city so I have started to use cracked stone bricks, cobblestone and stone brick stairs to make the road seem unkempt. (The stairs are for making slight potholes)

Honest feedback if you should continue? Are you kidding me? OF COURSE you should continue! I could watch this every day. What i think add a lot of character to roads are small bridges and tunnels, stairs and water canals.

additional things; sewage drainage ditches along the side of the road, random materials, city banners hanging from ropes(tripwire) over the street, laundry hanging from tripwires and windows, beggar's matts made of wool and with mugs (Flower pots.) cauldrons full of rainwater, sketchy alleyways with blood/redstone trails in them and stuff like that, dumpster style things, carts on streets, gated off alleyways with things stored in them, tiny herb gardens, vines on buildings, wells, lighposts, secret ways to parcour across the rooftops, street vendors, use note blocks as crates. please leave other suggestions in comments of this comment.

Another thing that looks very cool on the sides of houses are Colored canopies. The only thing you need to know is whuich colors match nicely. Like for example; dark green and pink, cyan and brown, dark green and light blue

I love your videos, they have helped me get a better understanding of how to build key aspects of my stuff in minecraft. What I really think you should do is get the yogscast complete pack and use all of the building mods that it has and show us what you're capable of with those mods.

Ich finde noteblocks sind auch nicht schlecht als kisten , z.B. wenn man kein Worldedit hat ich finde auch Karren beleben die Straßen auch etwas :) I think noteblocks are also pretty good as well as crates (e.g. if you haven't worldedit) also carts makes the street more alive :)

Never thought about lowering the street before. I think just integrating the surrounding block (Stone in this case,) into the path itself a bit more, rather than having 'layers' as it is. Thanks for the tips!

and what about street lamps? or lighting because if its night u would be walking in the dark and such, or the buildings around the street like light coming out of the windows so there is this kinda atmosphere in the street.

need to see more of this series! I'd like to see you build a commoners village, small, 4 - 5 houses, stable, butcher / baker / weapons merchant market stalls or something... This big city is immense, but far too hard for my low level creativity to just jump into, so i build my way up, and expand the settlement - village - town - city etc. your tutorials are always so easy to understand, and the enthusiasm you put into teaching other people how to achieve amazing results, by telling everyone about the minute details, just helps me really enjoy watching them. haha.

You can put trees to add shade as well as greenery, plus if it is a port you can add TNT, also you can add a variation to the type of block on the street e.g. gravel, cobblestone etc. Moreover, you can put saplings with string above them therefore they don't grow, this adds a better variety off plants. Finally, you can add plant-pots.

Some things you might want to include are street lights, drainage ditches, litter, signs, and pot holes.

I also like to randomize my streets and roads giving them an older less kept up look. I do this by randomly placing stone brick, mossy stone brick, cobblestone, mossy stone and gravel for my roads. Also some vines growing up the sides of a building shows signs of age.

Something i use often when detailing roads is tgat i mix up the road materials. For example, say i have a stone road, i out some blocks of gravel and stone brick

Use custom trees, ground buches of leafs, laundry between houses, lamps, wells, diffrent materials on the roads(cobble, gravle, dirt, stonebricks etc.) wildgrowing pumpkins/melons in the town on some grass spots etc etc.

One thing I like to do is see my work and go, how can this go wrong? One of my projects I'm working on I had a ship break the seawall at the port, and a whole section of road got flooded due to this.

I like to use some lights for my streets, but I sometime think I use to much,, can you tell me a way to use such decoration in a good way?

I would say like, if you have a poorer area use two and make it a stark contrast to show how those two are the only sources of light outside of houses (place them far away from eachother in more wide open spaces) and then use them sparingly in the other areas. Maybe so that there are still numerous dark areas on your road but not so many that it looks like daytime. In open areas in those districts light them very well. And if you have an upper class area make it glow. If you don't have such districts refer to the middle one and just use them semi often.

EB Productions You probably used 36:6, you'll need to use 'minecraft_piston' and then the data value of 6 the ':' doesn't work anymore :(

You could add some interesting floor designs. Of course this is if you wish to have a more 'fancy' street - Play with the blocks a bit, find a pattern and use some depth. If you don't get me, look at this picture puu.sh/cufDs/b8089b56a4.png This is a lobby that I made a while ago and its floor is very 'unusual' yet it looks very nice ( In my point of view ). Also if you have a bit wider street, why not pop in a custom hand made tree, I always like to do that, adds more life to the streets and the combination of the colors is very calming for the eyes. You could add old fashion lanterns, or even a 'fireplace' which looks like a lantern but instead of using glowstone or lamps, use fire - as it adds a even better medieval feel. Also I just want to point out that through your minecraft videos, I have become a great builder and I am very thankful for that. I have developed my own building style, I have knowledge of detailing in so many branches that it surprises me! Cheers ! if I ever see you in real life, I'm buying you a beer.

I like to use slabs and stairs to make tables or flower boxes on the bottom levels of my buildings, then I can add flowers or bushes to change up the look of the building and the road. Also, I use banners with no designs as cloths hanging from windows or clotheslines.
