We left Montana and headed out across Central Idaho to explore the outback of South Eastern Oregon. We started out along the beautiful Lochsa River in Idaho and then ended up taking a dirt road across BLM public land in S.E. Oregon. We tried to find a place to camp and after 50 miles of dirt road finally found a place to pull off the road! Along the way we explore an abandoned cowboy line shack, watched cowboys on horseback herding cattle and experienced the incredible beauty of Eastern Oregon.

Getting out on the road is what Linda and I love to do with our converted cargo trailer camper. We're part time nomads and the nomadic lifestyle suits us to a Tee. Whether your RV is a camper van, camp trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or just a car and a tent, there's going to be something interesting for you in the videos we produce. Back roads and overlanding are part of what we do while exploring the western states for beautiful, peaceful and sometimes remote places to camp on BLM and National Forest land (public land). Taking care of ourselves as much as possible and doing our own repairs is a must because we travel on a fixed income and a limited budget. If your into being off-grid and boondocking, or doing dispersed camping whenever possible then you'll appreciate the discussions on batteries, solar panels and solar chargers or power stations and 12v refrigeration. Come on along, we're happy to have your company!

Yes! I liked your comments about being unobtrusive or discreet as possible in public parking places, like home depo etc...please don't ruin it for others, as there must be a reason why some Walmarts tell you you can't stay there, we don't want that to be the case everywhere.

Suggestion to those considering.... Rice keeps fairly well. But if whether you want it fresh or for later.... cooking rice on the road is best done while you drive... so you can use the energy of your engine... and save the power stored in your batteries or power station !

SE Oregon is wide open high desert...cows and sagebrush. The real deal local cowboys have a distinct style of dress, wide flat brim hats and neckerchiefs and vests. I do carry extra gas on runs like this. I laughed when Linda said the cows will come over and stare at you....so true!!

Truly beautiful out there I find it funny with so many people talking about how over crowded our planet is it's very clear they've never ventured into what they refer to as "Fly over country". As a retired OTR Owner Operator I can with 110% certainty say that there are square miles upon square miles of lightly or unpopulated areas all across this Nation. I've driven for hours before without seeing another human being of even a structure or signs that anyone else even exists. There's still so much to see even after having driven well over 1 million miles in my lifetime. Little tip you'd be surprised how easy it is to rig a couple 5 or 10 gallon "Jerry Cans" onto your vehicle or trailer and if you can find that at a military surplus they used to be very affordable. They do of course add some weight but can save your skin when needed. Thanks for sharing a bit of your adventures with us all. Safe travels and God Bless...
@gonagain

Thank you Mjr Burn, we love your comment on the wide open spaces and also the tip on carrying gas. We're kinda maxed out as far as space and weight goes, but we do have to be more careful about where we go. Come to think of it though, there was a time last year where I was doing 45 mph to get the best mileage trying to make the next station. A lone station on a reservation and we were glad to find it open! Near Owyhee, NV.

At about 8:24 into your video I thought of one of my favorite poems, by one of my favorite poets: The Road Not Taken- Robert Frost Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. I also loved the story about you reflecting on a time long ago when your family was playing in this great river. Nothing better than having the mind to remember such beautiful events. I’ll take experiences, memories and the beauty all around us when we get out and explore and day over Things; they are nothing but things. If we play our cards right our mind can give us a lifetime memories. Thanks so much for sharing these great videos.

I have run out of gas a couple times. First time I had 5 gallons in the back of my truck thank God. Second time I had 10 gallons thank God. Oh I just hate that feeling when the gas tank is getting low and the spare tanks are empty and I don't know where the next gas station is. So I keep at least 15 gallons in Jerry cans in the back of the truck and I will fill up if I see a convenient gas station and I am less than half full. Are use sta-bill to keep the gas fresh and rotate it out on a regular basis.

Several years ago in our small travel trailer, we hid from bad weather in an Alley between Home Depot and WalMart in Marianna Florida. (With the security guard's blessing) The Home Depot had the most excellent public WIFI! We watched the weather channel and Netflix all night long. When we overnight like that, we always shop in the store; around here, Big-box management will abide RVs much quicker when they see a shopping cart with a few essentials at the cash register! We continue to prepare for a western winter adventure. Alabama Departure date is set for Thanksgiving afternoon. (after the meal-w- family) Shakedown trip to the mountains of North Georgia in July.

You guys have summer covered with your Montana home base. (I see Neihart, Mt. has a fine summer climate, 5500 ft. But assuming you can spend a nomand's 2 weeks there, you'll to look for a new place. It was interesting to see you in my neck of the woods. I live in Idaho but the Ontario Home Depot is the closest Home Depot to me. I really want to explore highway 12 this summer along with the Grangeville area. You can drive on thousands of miles of dirt roads in that part of Oregon you were in as well as Idaho. Yep take plenty of gas. It’s big empty country. I don’t know how many of those old line shacks I have camped in while growing up. Some not as nice as that one. Great video. Makes me want to saddle up.

Man, you two were way out there. The only good cow is on a plate. I have come to that conclusion after waking up over the years and quiet a few times finding forty cows and calves in my front yard pooping all over the side walk and rubbing mud all over my car and house. They really make a mess of your yard and the guy that owns the cows says call my lawyer. I should of been wise and stocked my freezer full of meat. Man I love the spirit of adventure in you two. Take care my friends and great video.

Wife and I came home one day to find cows in my front yard/garden. They had been feasting on my corn, and other veggies. Pretty well eaten and trampled. Cows came from about 1/2 mile away. Owner of cows was renting pasture and did not maintain fences. He paid for my veggies. 10 days later same cows were back. I called him. reply? Those are not my cows this time. Ear tags were the same. Neighbor and I had some fine frozen eating after dressing. Somehow, the same owner came by, saying 4 of his cows were missing.
@gonagain

We have to keep the cattle off of our off grid property, keep the fence up, check the stock gate, etc because the property next to ours leases out the grazing to a rancher. MT is an open range land which means its up to us to fence the cattle out. It should be the other way around..

Super easy to Stack or even Bolt-On as some have a Bolt System which requires a Mod. Of some kind on your car or trailer. I'm Certain you've seen them. Gasoline, 'Don't Leave Home Without Extra'. Now I can relax when violent acts "set aside" new social opinions. Seriously. I did wonder if the government lands of the West were taken by government or was the land "unclaimed", where in the East lands were owned/deeded to private citizens. Or, perhaps government bought land from landowners. Thanks for your videos and camp knowledge.
