The climatic center of the 1973 movie, The Sting was about a horse race at Riverside Park in the 1930's. The Riverside Park was a real horse track.

was the best movie I've seen. Well written, with great actors, suspense, and comedy. Watching it for the first time must have been a special experience. I watch it at least four times a year.

When I run into horse betting friends (of which I'm not) I always say "Place it on Lucky Dan" and they always get the joke. Last summer we went to a local horse track with another family and that father certainly could speak 'horse betting' (of which I can't). He showed me his 3-4 tickets apparently expressing his knowledge of the next race. After that race, I went to the betting window and picked up around 40 expired tickets off the floor and returned to the group. I showed him this fan-fold of betting slips, announcing my cleverness by betting on every combination for the next race. The look on his face was pure horror as he actually thought I purchased every combination. Priceless.

Who else saw this in the theater when it came out? For me, we saw it in Sterling Colorado. And for days, the finger on the side of the nose flip was the sign we gave. 😝

always find it funny the cashier guy behind the bars says he has to talk to the manager and then steps 6 inches around the side of the bars to get past it without a gate or anything.

It is notable that 'Mr. Hand' R. Walston also cameod in M. Keaton's gangster farce 'Johnny Dangerously', as a blind newsstand operator who both recovered and lost again, his vision after twice being hit in the head by drive-by paper deliveries. Mmmm. 😎

You know, I think, the main reason I know this title scene is because I think they use the same melody in FFIX when you go to Treno
