How do I take the live audio feed from the remote guest into the Rodecaster for mixing and monitoring and then output it back to a unique audio track in Riverside?
@Riversidefm Жыл бұрын
You would need to turn up both your mic channel and the USB audio from your computer in the routing in the RODE connect software. But your remote guest will hear themselves twice over. What platforms are you trying to live stream to with this setup?
@tonymoore1671 Жыл бұрын
@@Riversidefm it's not really a livestream, but I'll use Riverside to record the video for sure. The biggest challenge I have is getting my guests to upgrade microphones etc. so I was hoping to get their feed into the ROdecaster so I can enhance it

Good idea! Are you using that with a Rode Mic?
@HolisticHealthEducation Жыл бұрын
@@Riversidefm I am using it with the Rode videomic go 2. It’s a catastrophe. Firstly, to set up with the MacBook Air. Secondly, there’s massive interference in the signal, so that the sound quality is worse than if one selected just the microphone itself, as a source. For my purposes, it means choosing between a better sound quality, just selecting the microphone, but then losing the ability to make use of the software. Or, using the software, but then suffering from poor sound quality from the microphone.
@Riversidefm Жыл бұрын
@@HolisticHealthEducation Are you connecting the mic to your MacBook Air via USB? And what in the software is helping to improve the mic sound? Is it an audio preset? You may be able to apply some EQ, compression, and other effects in post-production to still get the sound you're looking for.
@HolisticHealthEducation Жыл бұрын
@@Riversidefm Yups, connecting using the Rode usb cable, which is apparently a prerequisite for it to work. The software destroys the sound quality, not help it. If I want good sound, I can’t use the software and have to select the microphone, instead of the software, as source. I specifically bought that microphone because it’s compatible with the software. For the reason that I don’t want to have to edit the sound post-production. I am new to this and have to fight a very steep learning curve. Hence my idea was to get good quality sound in pre-production, using the software, so that I can just edit everything on Riverside and then post. Clearly, that’s not going to work with this software, unless there is something one can do to make the software work correctly.

Are you choosing the Rodecaster as your audio input and speaker output in Riverside, and then the CamLink 4K for video? I know the CamLink 4K has given us issues in the past. You may consider connecting the Sony ZV1 directly to your computer in webcam mode to see if you still experience the same issue.

You can! How I set it up in this video, you can record the USB channel locally to an SD card in the Rodecaster and that will recording your remote guest in a separate track. Or you can use Logic, GarageBand, Audacity or similar to record that input number from the Rodecaster as well.

Do you have suggestion for adding video as well. What if I have 4 people in person who are all running audio through the rodecaster and two people remote? Let's say all 6 guests want to be able to see each other. Last time I did this setup, I had 4 webcams setup each going through the 4 guests individual laptops but muted sound (no mic or sound coming in/out, since we were using rodecaster) So it recorded to riverside with no audio on the tracks but we got video. Audio was recorded to riverside using the single audio track from the rodecaster which was the sum of all four of the mics from the inperson guest/host. Do you have any better solutions for this kind of setup? We often will do podcasts where some people are in person and 1-2 people are remote. I'm having trouble figuring out what the best methods are to do video and audio and record separately and make using the Riverside app for editing with magic clips as easy as possible. Big fan of Riverside hopefully you guys have some suggestions!
@Riversidefm Жыл бұрын
Great question! For the audio, you could record the individual tracks directly on the Rodecaster, or use software like Audio Hijack to record those separate files for in-person video. I explain here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJXOlH-copZnhZYsi=G4_ds6ZJg7fHl-8t Then for video, I would recommend using mobile devices for the in-person guest video running the Riverside app. We have a feature that allows you to mute the device audio, but it will still record audio making the multi-track creation easier in post! I show that feature here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZOckousZtKDitUsi=GEww6nR8rWLIQF4c

Question: We often have two local hosts and a remote guest. I like to not wear headphones on the video shoot - can we set our monitors low in volume, and set a noise gate on our local mics. That way the remote guest is loud enough to hear, but quiet enough to stay under the noise gate? If so, I assume I can then select 'I am wearing headphones' on Riverside so it does not add echo cancellation?

When entering the Riverside studio, are you choosing the Rodecaster Pro II as both the mic input and speaker output? If so, are your headphones plugged into the Rodecaster Pro II directly? Finally, if the answer to those are yes, open the Rode Central software, go to Routing, choose headphone 1 (assuming that port you have your headphones plugged in), and make sure the USB 1 fader is up.

Second to none on your thoroughness. Nobody has been able to explain this subject well. I have been tasked with setting up a local podcast and it was decided that they wanted remote guest ability as well. This complicated things so this was extremely helpful. I do have a question. I most likely will have just one camera (FX30) to start pointed at two local hosts along with a remote guest. The two hosts will have two XLR mics tied into the Rodecaster pro II and the FX30 tied into the host computer for Video. Riverside video auto-switching should work fine between hosts and remote guests in this scenario I am assuming. So when either host speaks into their XLR mic it will go to the fx30. However, what if I want to add another camera to separate my two hosts? My two mics will be tied to the Rodecaster Pro that is attached to the single host machine with the FX30 camera. Trying to figure out how to retain auto-switching with multiple local cameras for my (local) hosts.
