19:29 Back when I was on the original RODECaster Pro I asked the same thing about the looped audio on the pads. I don't know if it was ever fixed. This goes back to a service request added on November 6, 2020. My response from RODE was: "Thank you for your reply! We will definitely look into this and recommend keeping an eye on social channels for any possible updates." This was one of the reasons I went to the GoXLR. Kind of sad to hear it hasn't been fixed.

Wow, fantastic video recommendation for the Rodecaster Pro II, almost made me reach for the buy button online immediately. 🙂 The best thing with this video is that it gives some real pointers on what a pro creator uses to create the content they put out. The fact the Rode can replace nearly 99% of what you use today is a phenominal endorsement. I'm a complete newbie so still learning, but the flexibility and ease of use that you demonstrate in this video has literally blown me away. Awesome video Mike. I too have a mixer, mic processors, multiple audio inputs etc and a multitude of cables in my home Internet Radio setup and will be looking at getting the RPC2 to replace them all. The mixer cover is a smart move as one of my bugbears is forever dusting out the mixer's channels and buttons and I have a Decksaver cover on my Pioneer DDJ2 controller which has kept it looking clean like new from day one. As others have asked it would be great to get follow-up videos on the best settings for all the different features of the RPC2. Keep up the great work.

Great review Mike. As an user of the original RCP, there are several things that I didn't like in the new unit. First of all the original RCP much more podcast oriented, not all around gear. It's bigger, with 8 faders not 6, and it's have the blessed TRRS input that the current is lacking. The new RCP 2 certainly have updated capabilities, but I still prefer the original. Good job Mike.
@MikeRussell2 жыл бұрын
Each to their own 👍
@photographiezautrement2 жыл бұрын
Faders are re-assignable in RCP 2. Do you always use ***8 faders*** simultaneously, that you must adjust in real time ? RCP 2 has 3 virtual faders. So 9 total faders (at this time) "certainly have updated capabilities" : yes, you can tell it like that :) The list of improvements and differences is really impressive (and in constant evolution)
@IdoDavid2 жыл бұрын
@@photographiezautrement personally, I like physical measures instead of virtual. I understand your point. The original RCP has the correct sizes and proportion, the new one got smaller and slimmer. Again it's a matter of personal experience, and taste if you like.

For customization, It’d be interesting as well to be able to change the name and icon of each input (our own icons) and still have in the input settings a reminder that it corresponds to the physical input it was originally named after… Also I think they should made the RODE Central app compatible with Linux. MIke.....I thought you'd be interested in my experience thus far with the RCP2. I purchased my first unit about 2 weeks ago and have had to return because the larger 'volume knob' is not operating. It's clearly off it's track and will hardly turn. The second unit I purchased arrived with several issues in assembly. First, the touch screen monitor wasn't properly seeded in its housing. I carefully centered it and pressed on it and it seems to be back in place. A second issue was the metal behind the faders rubbing on the faders when they were adjusted. Again, after pressing down on the entire plate in several places, it seems to have snapped back into position. The build quality on the RCP2 units is inferior to that of the RCP1 in my opinion. I love the new features but this thing feels like it will break if you sneeze at it the wrong way. As I told Rode in my email, I would gladly pay another $100-$200 USD for a "Pro" unit. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Also, please pass along to Rode if you have their ear.

If there's one feature I would want to have, it's the expander instead of the noise gate. Noise gate does not do well as it tends to be abrupt and the ratio cannot be adjusted. There is a hysterosis setting, but it's not a replacement for the ratio setting. Although the Behringer MDX2600 does not have a ratio setting, the expander sounds great to me, which is why my Rodecaster Duo is not a replacement for my Behringer MIC2200 Tube Microphone Preamp, Behringer Ultragraph Pro FBQ3102HD 31-band equalizer, and MDX2600 Composer Pro XL. But since I travel with my family, I cannot have acoustic room treatment even in a quiet room, my room is not dead silent. Of course, I cannot carry my outboard rack-mounted gear in my backpack, so that's where the Duo fits in, but like yours, I ran into limitations for what I intend to do. Anyway, my headphone and microphone is my Beyerdynamic DT-797 PV-250 headphone. I wish there's a dyanmic microphone version of the DT-797 though. At least I can fit my Rodecaster Duo and DT-797 in my backpack.

I just bought this and connected it up yesterday, and yes I'm amazed at what it can replace and it sounds GREAT! Awesome video, Mike. Although quality of the audio through rodecaster is below average comparing to your rich, deep, into-the-ears warm sound through your usual set up. So don’t disregard that too soon. Cheers!!

Good review of the product, but you said @2:32 'with a high pass filter I'm not using'. Sorry to be negative, but throughout this review there was low level mic popping and audible gain pumping. Perhaps not using the HPF was a wrong decision. I'm not even monitoring on bass heavy headphones (Sennheiser HD40 & HD414).

I'm not sure I want to put all my eggs in one basket. Yes, it's cheaper to buy it than buy each process units, if there's a problem, the whole unit has to be sent back to get fixed.

Great review. I would like to see submixes as streamer too. But the best and outstanding thing is, you can connect two PC wie usb and tata solved the problem with sound from streaming to gaming an back. If it had a EQ for the headphone that would be grate too.

I was looking at the Rodecaster Duo, but no HI Z for Bass and Electric Guitars. The Rode does seem the most intuitive of these new class of mixers. Do you have any recommendations?
@MikeRussell Жыл бұрын
While the Rodecaster Pro II does offer impressive features for podcasting and voice recording, it may not be the best choice for handling bass and electric guitars due to its lack of a high impedance input. For recording those instruments, consider exploring mixers with dedicated HI Z inputs, such as the Presonus StudioLive series or the Mackie ProFXv3.
@chrisdorsch9754 Жыл бұрын
@MikeRussell The Mackie is definitely on my short list. Thank you kindly for your reply.

Mike … love your content. I use first generation RCP for in-studio interviews with non-broadcast folks. I’m concerned that latency in RCP 2 will be an issue with guests. RCP 1 does not have this issue.

It's almost never a question of a new product or system replacing the best possible equipment currently in use. It is almost always a question of is it good enough? When you compare price, ease of use will the product be good enough that the listener will disregard some of the shortcomings? Will it get more quality content to listeners with a lower barrier to entry for the would be creator? Do they require less technical/operational skills to get their message out?
@MikeRussell10 ай бұрын
The RODECaster Pro II can indeed replace a whole studio when considering its cost, ease of use, and potential to increase accessibility for content creators.

@MikeRussell sounds like a really cool device. I would really love to test it out, but unfortunately, I don’t think I would be able to use it, since there seems to be lots of options and stuff you have to select, and for me that wouldn’t be very accessible. So for the time being, I would just have to stay with my analog equipment, which has knobs and stuff which I can actually turn and buttons I can actually feel. Plus, it is out of my budget range, and I’m not sure if you have to see the screen in order to select different options.

Thank you very much for this, Mike! Really great helpful video! Just wondering though, in what order are your processes connected? Maybe it's just my lack of experience with this but I'd be really curious to know the order of the chains (maybe even in like a wiring diagram form). For example which comes first right after the mic, etc? Thanks!

I know you requested a Master Channel EQ, but doesn’t it already have a 3 band EQ? I know that having a 10 Band EQ would be far better, but is the 3 band EQ not good for voice tuning? BTW, I’m still waiting for my RCP2 to arrive later this week. That’s why I’m asking about the EQ and how it works with the mic setup. Thanks
@MikeRussell2 жыл бұрын
You have individual EQ for each mic and an overall EQ for the output
@MikeRussell2 жыл бұрын
Better control of the overall output which is either being recorded or streamed. If it's being recorded then you have the option of post-processing but if it's being streamed then you want it exactly how you want it sounding as it's leaves you.

Interesting video, is there a way to normalize or amplify audio from multi channels to normalize the entire audio to -1 DB in this device? For instance I record my podcast into a zoom p4 into multi track then I upload into audacity to match the volume levels of the multi tracks. Sorry if 8 don’t know how to articulate what I’m trying to say. I’m learning as I go here
@MikeRussell2 жыл бұрын
I would suggest normalising each track in Audacity to the same level as a starting point before making any edits
@DavidBrackett3852 жыл бұрын
@@MikeRussell I guess what I’m asking is does this device offer the ability to preset audio levels of different channels and mix it down and specify the luff level upon export where I could literally bypass audacity and transfer an mp3 to my iPad or pc to upload to my podcast host?
@MikeRussell2 жыл бұрын
That's what you'd use your DAW for, for post-processing of your recordings.
@DavidBrackett3852 жыл бұрын
@@MikeRussell I get that but I’m exploring buying this and am wondering how good it is at real time audio processing. I’m not doing professional audio work so I’m just trying to see if it’s good enough for my needs to export mixed down to a stereo mp3 without post edit
@MikeRussell2 жыл бұрын
This is a recording device, you'll still not to post-produce your podcast to combine the different tracks into a single produced mp3 file.

Having had the mixer, do you think that the number of inputs is a limitation of the rodecaster pro 2? I have a Clarett 8 pre usb but unsure if it is wise to sell it as I would be limited to two stereo pairs in on the RodeCaster. Your opinion would be very much appreciated.
@MikeRussell Жыл бұрын
It totally depends on your usage, it's certainly not suitable for all uses due to it's limited inputs but that's not what it was primarily designed for.

Sorry Russell if my last question was not as clear. What I was asking, I"m curious what you when you said "EQ Strip," and what you had titled “Master Channel EQ?” Just curious what you meant by that, since they already have a 3 band EQ. Is that not good enough, or you were asking for something different? Can you expound on this? Thanks for your quick replies! 😎
