Truck also can be selected with the optional bigger battery SUV base is shorter can not be selected with the max battery-pack, and while the truck cover bed can have it's issue getting very easy stuck another cheaper option is the manual bed-cover (but so far i did not see too many people getting or review a truck with that option so yeah maybe latter), the SUV has no such problems but also does not have the extra space of adventure tunnel for cooking, table to power different tools and the SUV do not feature a full spare wheel only the mandatory useless flat kit.. the truck has a full spare under a cover in the bed, so for all things considered truck is more practical & useful that is why that would be my choice, SUV is just for more people..

the single cylinder dirt bikes and atv's have dominated the market not only because of cost and weight but the erratic power delivery works better in the dirt. of course electric can take full advantage of this phenomenon by sending out pulses of power to each wheel. the reason is initial traction tends to be greater that if a tire spins wildly. high wheel speed seems to only help in very wet conditions like deep mud or wash sand

It’s perfectly reasonable for you to make decisions based on your budget. But what comparable alternative is there to the R1S? The only three row electric SUV currently available is a Model X, which has none of the off-road capabilities, has less power, lower quality materials, and starts at around $120k. Even if you were to consider ICE alternatives, what other three row SUV has similar performance (both in terms of power and off-road capabilities), same level of luxury, and at a similar price range? $70k was an absolute steal! Even at $90k it’s still a very good value (albeit obviously only for people who can afford it).
@theinternets75162 жыл бұрын
@@chungachguk, it's not a budget issue, it's an issue of how I value the vehicle. For 90k I wouldn't have anything other than a Land Cruiser. Dead reliable for decades and just as capable as the R1S. There's too many question marks with it being so new. In 20 years if rivian is still around and have proven themselves to be at the same level as Land Cruiser/ LX then I think they'll be selling great but if they're getting junked in 10-12 years because of dead/dying battery packs they're going to have problems selling them new to anyone looking to keep it longer than 3-4 years because once they're older than that no one is going to want to pay for it on the used market knowing it will be headed to the recycle in only another 5 years or so.
@chungachguk2 жыл бұрын
@@theinternets7516 It remains to be seen how reliable the new Land Cruisers will be (and if you are in the US, there will be no new Land Cruiser). Furthermore, while Land Cruiser is equally capable off-road, no way it compares to the R1S in everyday driving (either by options available or pure exhilaration in driving). Land Cruiser is also significantly less efficient (13 city/18 highway for the 2019 model). The fears of having to replace the battery are also significantly overblown. The warranty is for 8 years/150k miles, and if Tesla’s batteries are any indication, they’ll easily last into 300k-400k with minimum deterioration. Considering the relative simplicity of the drive train, even if you have to replace the battery every 10 years (at $20k-$25k; will likely be much cheaper as the system is optimized), it’ll effectively become a brand new truck, where as the technology in the Land Cruiser will age).

Do you mean a Land Rover? If so, I did price out a Defender 110 and tried to get it comparable to the R1S offering (horsepower, panoramic roof, Meridian sound system, etc). It was well above $110,000 and it still fell short of the Rivian capabilities. Not to mention Rivian comes with a 150,000 mile or 8 year drivetrain warranty (which includes the battery) from the factory and Land Rover wanted an additional $10,000 for a 100k mile or 3 year extended warranty. Oh, almost forgot…Rivian qualifies for the $7,500 Federal tax break which is not insignificant.

@@fpartidafpartida Yep, great comment, in response to another poorly informed one. If you are one of the lucky ones who got the pre-order pricing, it's even better.

Jeep. You can't tow with those lol unless you take a week off work to charge
@baer197412 жыл бұрын
I need in-town towing, meaning under 100 miles, and not leaving town. This works better than equivalent gas/diesel vehicles for that sort of application. More stable and more power. And it takes 15 seconds to plug in at night- much less time than going to gas station to fill up.

@@baer19741 special case, when people tow, they generally go 50 plus miles
@baer197412 жыл бұрын
@@mblake0420 No doubt that diesel/gas is better for long-distance due to the additional time and planning it takes to recharge an electric vehicle on the road, at least with current technology and infrastructure with charging stations. But for farmers, landscapers, local haulers, contractors, and the like who need to tow equipment or materials relatively locally-- there are a lot of people/companies that fit this description-- a Rivian or Ford Lighting (especially with the a/c power options that can power tools, or even a whole jobsite or house) becomes very compelling. Cost is high, but not really higher than similarly equipped trucks, especially when taking into account cost of fuel over a 5 or 10 year period.

@@baer19741 except those trucks are around for 40 years and ain't no battery gonna last half that
@baer197412 жыл бұрын
Battery warranty is 175,000 miles, as is the drivetrain. Tesla batteries are showing only a 10% degradation after 160,000 miles. Many fewer moving parts in EV's that will need maintenance & replacement over time compared to ICE vehicles. Plus, easier to swap out batteries than engines, so I disagree with you there.

U expect them to produce millions over night?

They built 4,467 trucks and SUV’s in the second quarter of this year. That works out at ~50 a day. Not as much as others but not bad for a company right at the start of its production life

Name one company that’s putting out more electric trucks at the moment? Don’t worry, I’ll wait…
