Rivian does seem to get the EV market. I would go with the dual motor long distance battery. The 2 motor is fast enough. Would rather have more range. Getting one around 60k would be fairly reasonable. My concern is still range and charging infrastructure. Will probably get a 4Runner Trailhunter. Maybe in 5-10 years these will be more practical for long trips and towing. Hybrids or PHEV's seem to make more sense for now. EV's are getting better every year.
@jake-ly6 ай бұрын
they understand, but unfortunately batteries are the most expensive part. To get the margins they need, they need to step up the margin for each trim, and its an easier sell with more powerful motors which are relatively cheap compared to batteries

I parked my 24 Nissan Frontier crew cab next to a Rivian R1T this evening just to see how it compared in size to my truck and to my surprise they are about the same. Talked to the owner briefly and he said it fit in his garage and that was the deciding factor for him. I'm not hugely interested in EVs but if I were to get one, I'd probably go with a Rivian. Particularly the R1S. Really nice updates. The thing that still keeps me away is the pricing, which is no shade to Rivian. EVs just cost more than I'd like to pay for what they are.
@fpartidafpartida6 ай бұрын
Agreed, EV are most expensive…but if this had a gas engine, it would be a bargain. Show me a ICE equivalent (saying this last comment in a friendly tone). Any vehicle you mention I will find a shortcoming either on or off road compared to this. Not to mention that once you go ICE, you would give up it’s storage capacity, it’s durability (my R1S comes with a 175,000 mile warranty that includes the battery), “fuel” economy, the convince of not getting oil changes or going to a gas stations. If this didn’t exist, I would probably buy a Toyota Land Cruiser. Other options might be a Chevy Taho ZR1 or a Defender 110. All three of these have so many compromises that Rivian R1S doesn’t.

Couple changes I dont care for are the lowering of the turn signal and having 3 cameras clustered in the mirror. The turn signal will affect me, a person who can't dream of owning one of these, directly by obscuring it behind other cars. Some nearby intersections fall apart because turn signals either being to low to see or not being used. I know, i know, they should remake those intersections. I have been barking up that tree to no avail, alongside local law enforcement and the fire department. The 3 cameras wont effect me much, but it will hurt whoever owns these when that mirror gets side swiped or hit with a ball bat by some bored teenagers. Of course i dont see teenagers doing the old "mailbox golf" much anymore.

You clearly don’t off-road. Not saying this to be mean, but if you did off-road you’d realize that a 300-400 mile radius (sure cut that even lower for off roading) is more than enough to traverse most off road trails. Rivian completed the Rubicon trail with the R1S in 2 day with a mostly stock vehicle (they added a winch and rock rails). That’s insane, look up some KZbin videos of the vehicles that attempt that trail. They are all heavily modified. I personally just completed a 700+ mile road trip from MN to San Diego and hit every State Park (with mountain bike in tow) along the way. I did quite a quite a bit of off-roading along the way, not a problem at all. The “scariest” part was probably traveling from Joshua Tree park to Vegas. I went through Death Valley and half way through, there was a road closure. I just off-roaded around the barricade and made it to the next charger,no problem.
@duncdunc766 ай бұрын
@@fpartidafpartida LOL. Assuming anyone that asks a question, like the original commentor did, has never off roaded is silly. I guess you've never run out of fuel in your life anywhere ever? I'm not ashamed to admit that I have both on and off road. Accidents happen and I'm sure there are plenty of people over the years that have ran out of fuel off roading. So it would stand to reason there might be people running out of electric juice as well. And actually people carry extra fuel cans on their off road vehicles for that exact reason. So the original commenter's question is very valid. As are the other responses aside from yours. Honestly no disrespect meant just want ya to think about your comment.
