I worked as a GM dealer tech during this time, did many a pdi on these. And worked on several. Ride quality was same as a Cadillac, but lower price. I was always a oldsmobile man. It's like a Buick, but sportier. I still have and daily drive a mint condition 1993 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme. Love that car.

Yeah Olds was better by leaps and bounds especially in the tech department

My mom loved buick lesabre's forever! She bought a 1993 Oldsmobile 88 Royale in 1993 and loved it! She went back to buick in 98 abd again in 02'. After that I got her in 2004 into a Lexus ES 330 and she's NEVER LOOKED BACK! She currently owns a 2023 ES 350 Ultra Luxury that's as beautiful a car as she's ever owned. This 2023 is her 7th Lexus ES since 2004 and switching over from GM and Buick. Lexus Sinply built a better more luxurious better built more reliable and way better customer experience than even cadillac could build. Cool video. Lexus for the win. Buick can't even come close now. Even with their SUV only line up, they are still dressed up chevy's and don't hide the cost cutting very well. It seems like buick in the early 2000s was starting to become an afterthought and that's when I got my mom out of the brand. In the 80s and 90s though I though byick did a very good job with ride comfort style and build quality. It's simply not a priority anymore for GM.... and it shows!

I had a 1990 PA Ultra. I absolutely loved it, save for the fuel economy. It was a beast in the snow too!

I’m surprised they didn’t offer or show the digital gauges. I had them in mine and they were great

Digital gauges are one of the defining features of late 80's/early 90s American luxo boats!

I had a 1990 PA Ultra and loved except the clear coat disintegrated and the gray on the bumpers washed off to reveal a hideous yellow underneath. But the car was otherwise quite nice. Mine was dark blue and was really great looking in the ultra trim package.

Even to this day i love my 3800s❤❤ And have an 04 Dale Jr supercharged Monte Carlo SS L67. Still want an 85-90 red on red Electra. Growing up born in 89 my grandfather had a beautiful red on red every option including digital gauges 86 Park Avenue. I loved that car growing up. Being an 86 it was the red dot 3.8

…the final year of this H-body front drive format for the Electra featured subtle refinements which, along with the Olds 98 Regenncy series set the benchmarks for GM mid-range luxury… …stylists and designers achieved the same success Chevrolet’s crew did when down-sizing the Caprice…while shrinking the wheelbase, lrngth and weight, they maintained interior dimensions; thus satisfying the legions of reeat buyers wanting that “full sized car roominess and comfort”… …powered by the stalwart 3800 with multi-port furl injection, these sedans aldo wowed buyers by delivering 20mpg city and 30mpg highway fuel efficiency… …the Park Avenue/Ultra trim packages festured somevof the most motorized of power seating controls ever installed… with independent lowers and seatbacks…and evenbpower headrests… …though short on actual dash guages…in true 80’s-‘90’s fashion, there are an enfless array of buttons for a variety of electronic features…

I completely disagree with P.J Harrison when he says that the average Park Avenue buyer at that time was "mature and well-educated." He's implying that it was well-educated, upper-class people who bought these. I would like to see the data on that, because I'm pretty sure his information was inaccurate. The majority of upper-class people in those days weren't buying Park Avenues, or any Buick for that matter. Increasingly, they were going for imported cars. Yes, most people buying Park Avenues at that time were definitely in the "mature" category. But those were more your "blue collar rich" people. Older men who had worked as electricians and other trade jobs, I believe, represented the majority of Park Avenue buyers. Anyway, that's all academic now, but what is true is that this generation of Park Avenue was one of GM's most bullet proof vehicles they ever made. I had a 1988 Park Avenue, and it went over 300,000 miles before it finally gave out. I took it everywhere, and it was just a dandy car. As used cars, they gave their owners cheap luxury, and terrific economy because they never gave you any trouble. Mine was loaded with almost every option imaginable for the time, and yet it was completely reliable. A few people bemoan GM's decision to downsize their luxury models, but I really think it was done well. You had a smaller luxury vehicle, but it still delivered that soft big car ride. Only by this generation, the ride was much more controlled, and the car was much easier to maneuver.

The '91 Park Avenue was a huge upgrade from these cars in terms of mechanicals, quality, and style. The sales reflected that. Sales for the '91 model more than doubled compared to the 1990. 114,000 units compared to 48,000 units. And no, its not just the new-car effect, because sales for the new '91 Olds 98 actually DROPPED compared to its predecessor. Buyers loved the new design of the '91 Park Avenue. The '91 is also remembered as a design classic by many and the 85-90 model, while IMO not bad, isn't really respected. Its awkwardly proportioned, with too much greenhouse and not enough trunk. Its also just very flat and dull in terms of styling. The '91 was a much better proportioned and a far more stylish car. Inside and out.
