Any tips? I can pretty much utterly dominate the first half of any game as CM 90% of the time, but I struggle hard with the late game.

@@carljohan9265 So when you play CM you gotta keep a few things in mind. First, your mana costs are extremely high and mana management is critical. Second, your movement speed is abysmal and with a low health pool it means that you are very easy to kill. Finally, positioning is key when playing. Whenever I play CM I make sure that I am positioned in such a way so that people perceive me as a "non-threat". What I mean by this is that if you just jump in and ulti you place a huge target on your back and everyone is gonna gun for you first. This isn't a bad thing per se, but the goal is to make it pretty far in a fight before dying. For that reason, I usually always pick up glimmer cape and just glimmer myself when I ulti. This only works a couple of times before they start buying dust. That's when I use cape to just save my teammates primarily. So when do I use ulti? Usually when a fight has started and has gone on for a little bit then I'll use ulti to secure kills or make sure it's harder for them to run away. I'll also use it to save my own life. Don't forget, your ulti gives 20 armor. It's a ton and I use it to save myself for when my teammates are running towards me. I'd say though that the biggest thing to becoming a really strong CM player is to have really good positioning with your abilities. Never be in the direct center because people will expect a large ultimate from you but if you wait and use it later it can catch your enemies off guard. For example, using crystal nova to 5 heroes is much better than using freezing field against 5 heroes for 1 second. If you're having trouble surviving then aeon disk is your friend. Your slows and roots are extremely powerful and the damage isn't necessary to get good kills. Finally, beware her talents. She has good talents, but you have to remember that you are squishy with high mana cost abilities. Her level 15 talent may seem to be amazing, but think of it this way, every 3 casts you get to spend another 175 mana to do more damage/slow. That's a lot of mana especially if you have used your ultimate and have cast frostbite twice. At level 18 you would have spent 1600 mana for 4 crystal nova casts (with talent reduction), 2 frostbites, and 1 ultimate (not including items). Although her other ability is fine, it is multiplied by 3 times for you. That would make the 6% magic resistance be 18% for you and 6% on your allies. As I've told my friends, if you play crystal maiden the only items you need are tranquil boots and glimmer cape. If you can get those two items you can be a very effective crystal maiden player. As some final notes, this is for a support crystal maiden and for a carry maiden items that boost your magic capabilities are very strong (octarine, aether, etc.). Her level 20 talent for +200 attack speed is good, in theory, but CMs typically don't build damage items and it isn't very effective. Therefore, getting the freezing field damage is usually better as a support CM. Long story short, crystal maiden needs good positioning to be effective. You are not an initiator, although it would seem like your abilities would make you one. You are far to slow and weak to be an effective initiator. Wait on using your ultimate and use it when your enemies are running away as you can get good pick off kills. If you think you need damage to be effective, it's not true. Aeon disk still applies all your slows and roots and keeps you protected. Hopefully this really long explanation helps.

@@mwhull6711 Several points made here are things I do during the laning phase and early fights phase (I usually pick up ghost scepter and force staff as my survival items). What I'm getting from this is that my gameplay style basically falls for the trap of thinking that I need to get into the middle of a big fight later on and ult like a tidehunter, when what I should be doing is act like an artillery while holding my ult as a threat. I have however found great use for the attack speed talent. It synergizes amazingly well with medallion and atos, both of which can be built into stronger items if money allows (and gleipnir works really well if you make force staff into a hurricane pike, especially considering that the attacks that proc chain lightning pierce evasion). So basically, smaller fights I can take, but I need to stop acting like a tidehunter during the big fights :)

idk bout you guys. But back in the day on northern europe dota 1. This was actually exactly how people played cm. I remember the daedalus, mask of madness, frostbite right-click. Back then people couldnt click a lot of buttons, nor items. A lot of the support heroes now a days were mid heroes back then cuz they were so strong to just click one button and win lane, like cm, aa, dazzle, etc.

I have similar CM build. I go 2 null, glimmer and force staff and support until the attack speed talent. Then I get MKB and desolator. If I play against physical dmg hero I buy early ghost scepter. CM is quite slow, so if you want to have even more fun and play catch - get phase boots. :D
