Zimzalabim is A LOT, as a DIEHARD Luvie it was a lot to process. It’s overwhelming. I’m really glad you gave it a second chance because it REALLY needs multiple listens to appreciate the complexity and vocals. Red Velvet is the ONLY group in SM that could pull of this song. That being said, Zimzalabim is a hypnotic MASTERPIECE and when Red Velvet performs it live, they literally turned South Korea into a dance club. Yes, Red Velvet are the QUEENS OF SUMMER! Great reaction, I appreciate your honesty.

I think the aspect that makes me LOVE Zimzalabim the most is the fact that it is a super out of the box, surprising and strange song (in the best possible way). It has a wonderful bridge and grows catching you off guard even with a chorus that repeats itself throughout the song. The first time I heard I was ??? but the second time I was already defending the music on the internet and I don't know, I feel it makes a total feeling of something like the Reve Festival!! I LOVE

14:24 Umpah is a korean phrase that's used to teach children how to swim or how to breathe while swimming (that's also why there's swimming gestures in the choreo). 'um' = in and 'pah' = out, if I remember correctly! Meanwhile 'zimzalabim' is similar to 'abracadabra', a bewitchin word to aid magic spells and the chanting chorus really feels like they're trying to put a spell on us - especially when the fan chants are added :D Zimzalabim beyond doubt is a more challenging song that takes most people several listenings to appreciate and like, some may never really like it. But that's fine. I'd suggest checking out some live stages of the song, it has a different feel with the girls performing, it's really energetic! The song itself has been with SM for a long time, the girls first heard it while preparing for Rookie, but Lee Soo Man (the founder) felt like they weren't ready yet to release that kinda song at that time. In the end it took 3-4 years until everything came together!

Actually, Zimzalabim was submitted to SM before Red Velvet was even a group. The producers of the song admitted they were smitten with SNSD's "IGAB" and wrote the song not long afterwards.

Zimzalabim is a magical phrase like Abracadabra. First listen for most people is WTF! Okay I have to listen to that again. Okay one more time. By the time I heard it for the fifth time it was my guilty pleasure! Since you already reacted to Queendom, they say they are the queens of the red castle. And there is a red castle in Zimzalabim. So you know where they live now. ;-)

Don't feel too bad.... 6 months after it's release, netizens were STILL furiously debating Zimzalabim's merits. For anyone who is actually familiar with RV's stellar discography, ZZB wasn't a surprise at all. This was just them reminding everyone what a fiercly experimental group they are. To me, Zimzalabim is just another example of everything RV does right. Continuously gaining new fans while scaring off bandwagon stans who try pigeon-holing them as just *one* type of group.

Red Velvet's 'Zimzalabim' is the child of Girls' Generation's 'I Got A Boy' and the parent of aespa's 'Next Level'. SM loves this kind of quirky songs that feel like several songs in one. But it works, it always does, because the production is incredible and the vocals are always on point.

I loved ZZB first listen, but I also loved IGAB by Girl's Generation first listen as well. I always think of songs like this as concert songs. All the different parts feel like a mashup, and it gets the party going. Everyone knows the random lyrics and sings along and gets the energy pumping. I always tell people this is probably the most exciting song on a set list because even if you hate it, you're gonna sing along. I also think it's probably one of SM's best structured mashup/noise song. The instrumental lead ups all make sense and the melody transitions also make sense. It's jarring first listen to most because they're unconventional, but structurally, it all makes sense lol. A friend of mine was actually so overwhelmed with the sounds AND the visuals that I actually told her to listen to it without watching the video because having the weird visuals adds to the already overwhelming feeling of the song. She came back to me and told me she liked it so much better without watching because her attention wasn't being pulled everywhere. ZZB is a divisive song for a reason, but I am absolutely in love with it and I will jam to it unabashed every time it comes on.

I think once you understand the meaning behind ZZB it makes 100x more sense in the structure/lyrics of the song. They want everyone to be saying Zimzalabim, so they get it stuck in your head. When you repeat the incantation, you get put under their spell. They drop from the sunny vibe they had when coercing you to say it, and switch to a direct approach, making you recite it as well. It's a genius concept and it really worked. It still has everyone talking about it, love or hate, and that's the goal!

I can't help but laughing watching your reaction to Zimzalabim (I'm sorry, no offense though☺). Anyway, it has that 'effect' (confused, overwhelmed, lost) on most people. I was looking forward to this! You definitely approached ZZB with the right balance of trepidation and open mindedness, your face went through so many emotions! Joy always sparks joy. I was absolutely not sold at first but now it gives me the same strange euphoria as SNSD's IGAB, f(x)'s Red Light and Aespa's Next Level. I swear some producers look at SM with glee thinking this is where they can send their craziest creations. It's such a visual experience too! There's a huge group dance version of ZZB that is a trip to watch. Umpah Umpah is my favourite of their red summer songs, I love the theatre-style physical props in the mv. Mentioning Joy's smile, fun fact there's a famous fan who for years shouted to her "Park Soo Young, when you smile, I'm also, happy!" at every event, it was hilarious. They did take the Queens Of Summer mantle from Sistar for a few years, Brave Girls probably owned it last summer though!

No need to understand, there is great instrument with awesome vocals. Get under RV witches' spell, bounce together. I heard they played Zimzalabim in their concert, everyone says it was crazy wild experience 🤡 Zim, Zala, Bim are the names of trickster gods. then magicians used ZimZalaBim be as magic cast spell in some European countries then popularized. 'Umpha Umpha' is the top Summer Red song on my list followed by 'Power Up' and 'Red Flavor's. UmPhaUmPha is told to kid learning swimming, Um=hold breath, Pha exhale. and as a sidenote, while RV watching the male vocal swimmer, he is drawn to death, as he was UmPhaPha~~~ 🤡 Edit: La Rouge 2019 concert 4 song combo as ending stage except encore. Zup RJ! Okay, it's understandable that you need to listen to Zimzalabim one more time, a lot of people did when they watch it for the firat time! Because of their unique stule that SM vibes off too. I dont know if you know Girls' Generation but they are the first ones to do this type of thing, way back in 2012 (? Im not sure of the year) they realeased I Got A Boy, where it's a sing where it doean't know where it takes you because it's it's like they combine 5 songs to become 1 song. It's unique and only SM does that, so if you are a huge SM stan, you will get use to these types of style where it doesnt know where it will lead you too. NCT 127s Cherry Bomb is also like this where as you dont knkw will it will take you, like 3 songs combined to make a song. And yes, Red Velvet where it's like 10 songs combined to make a song. Many call these songs the Bohemian Rhapsody of Kpop because just like Bohemian Rhapsody of Kpop where they make different sound by making many songs combine to make a song. One thing that makes zimzlabimstand it is because there sound is very very very experimental. In Girl's Generation its like they more of a rock-ish vibe and in NCT127 is like hip hop-ish style while in Red Velvet, there music its just unexplainable, for example is there is a sound that is travelling though your head when you listen to the song (the effect that you can hear from the start and became louder in the dance break) , thats what makes ximzalabim more unique and its either you will love it or not 😁. Okay so zimzalabim is named after 3 trickster demons , ZIM, ZALA, BIM . They are like demons where they gave you what you want and will take something in return and basically the MV is red velvet is a cult of witches that have amusement part to make you happy where they take you to the sky with there basically using roller coaster, and its creepy because the cymbals are playing by itself, boots are marching all by themselves and tgat is i think an omen thatbis saying that tgey are like those trickster demons that will give you want you want in they want something in return. So yeah, another unique MV from red velvet. Moving on to the umpah umpah, yeah they referenced their songs and its the cutest thing ever! So basically umpah-umpah is like their most simple and NORMAL mv right? But listen, the audio, (first off, the song is about the girls trying to teach how to swim to someone) when you listen to the lower voice where a guy is singing umpah umpah allthrough out the song, notice where it stops in the end, meaning, they just drowned the guy 😏. Thats it, somple as that. I dont kniw if you read my comments where I explain the mvs but I also did last reaction, please do read it because im dying to know what you think of those theory from peek a boo and power up because those theory's are so dark! Yeah and also, please do react to the legendary fanmade cintent Red Velvet: A Mess series by bubbleflexe.the editor had made a playljst to it. Please dont forget to watch those that are in google drives due to copyright because they are like the best ones! In the first part of the series its like super short and hard to follow, since they have no reference to follow if you are a new born reveluv , but trust me,as you progree through the episode, it will get funnier and funnier. If you want yo react to it (please do 🥺) i guess do ep 1,2,3,4,5 in one video because they are short. So yeah! Sorry for taking up space in your wall again. Thank you for reacting to Red Velvet

I thought you got the Umpah umpah thing just by listening to it once. Well what I heard is that since it's a phrase to teach children how to swim, the girls sing lyrics about a guy wishing to be with them and fall in love. "Suffocating" "so hot hot" "let the beat drop" so they don't always sing Umpah Umpah and instead sing "Umpah pah" sometimes. They are supossedly teaching the guy how to breathe, but since they are singing it wrong, they are teaching him how to drown. So that's the creepy thing about it since you know Red Velvet has this kind of stuff going on. It's part of their concept. 😊

Zimzalabim is a very weird song for me. It is so close to me really liking it if just a few things were different. The main problem I personally have with it is a don't like what they did with the final chorus. I really dig the first two chorus sounds and the dance break and final chorus kind of ruin it for me.
