Fun fact : Zimzalabim was supposed to be released few years ago but Lee Sooman (SM's producer) said that Red Velvet didn't ready yet to carry the song so it was getting postponed until this year. Lee Sooman finally approved the girls' abilities to bring out the unique texture of this song. I mean if not RV, who else can carry a song like this? I know it's not charting as good as their past songs but Zimzalabim is awesome, at least for me lol (Yes, I have unique music preference when it comes to Red Velvet)

The fact that MANY dislike this song proves the point that Kpop fans are accustomed to a particular sound and concept for e.g either cute concept or girl crush concept. The same goes for the sound. Red velvet is the only kpop girlgroup that I know who NEVER repeats what they've already done before, even if one concept has been extremely successful(bad boy), they won't repeat it. Respect to them for choosing to try and put out different sides of music everytime they comeback. That's why Red Velvet is my favourite kpop girlgroup. You will never get bored of them. Moreover, their bsides are heavenly good.

When it was released, I didn't hate it but I didn't like it either. I thought the chorus was lacking. The only part that I liked was the bridge and onwards. I literally HATED it in the beginning but after a month when I listened to it again and again it became one of my favs from them. This was really cathartic. There’s this video I like about why it’s hard to remember what happens in the Transformers movies, because every single frame is demanding that you pay attention to it instead of being in service to telling a story, your brain overloads and just stops absorbing information. That is Zimzalabim for me. I remember y’all putting out a vid called “Why Zimzalabim Works” and I can’t any other songs that needed an in-depth explanation of why it technically constitutes a *song* instead of a bunch of cool elements that fight each other for your attention.
