yay kara! i wanted to try to simplify the member lineup, cuz it could be confusing. - original 4 member line up: sunghee (the main vocalist you liked in break it), gyuri, seungyeon, nicole (your fave one in the other mvs!) - sunghee left after their debut album. - jiyoung and hara joined the other 3 girls with the song "rock u" in 2008. it was this lineup until 2014, so definitely the most iconic/well known. - jiyoung and nicole left the group in 2014. that's when youngji joined (through a reality show competition), back to kara being a 4 member group. - 2016 they disbanded, 2019 hara passed away... - 2022 they reunite with jiyoung and nicole coming back with gyuri, seungyeon, and jiyoung with "when i move"! so this is the first time jiyoung and nicole are in the group with youngji as a member. btw, their most recent song is actually "i do, i do" from this year. sadly did not get as much traction as their reunion song earlier, but the song is so good!

Yes, Gyuri was the one in the video with Soobin. She was his bias (and then it was Seungyeon, taste, my txt bias biasing my kara bias 😂) Yes, you keep pointing out Nicole! She's always the main slayer lmao. The vocals you pointed out in Break It were unfortunately Sunghee 😅. She was very talented, but she left after and focused on studies (legit, as opposed to sometimes that just being an excuse. girl is gone and just living a normal life. Got married in like 2011 or something.) The vocals you pointed out in Pandora was Seungyeon, our main vocal. Her babyface hiding that soulful voice. The reason you like Step is because its pure excellence. Bar none. Imo top 10 k-pop song of all time, and I've also told my friends "if there ever comes a time where I don't like Step, just pull the plug. I have lost the ability to experience joy." I think it is joy and excitement and uninhibited happiness distilled into a single club banger. So the 5th member nowadays is Youngji, who was added via a VERY controversial show called the Kara Project to find a new 4th member after Nicole and Jiyoung left. As a Kamilia i was also initially against it, but really what turned me was how fucking HORRENDOUS people were towards her because of it. Not like its her fault DSP made a bad decision the fans didn't like, yknow? And she's VERY talented and pretty much never had anything to say but being grateful for her opportunity to be in KARA, all these years. The group disbanded and then we lost Hara and I think it broke everyone. She was the strongest woman for all she had to put up with, from an abusive ex to intense public scrutiny for not conforming to the way people expected her to be to a horrible mother who tried to claim her inheritance after she passed despite being an absentee mom. She also was revealed to have come forward with some of the key evidence/testimony in the Choi Jonghoon chat room scandal back around the same time, when so many other people knew but didn't say anything. I cry every time I think about her. That six mic scene breaks me every time. She should still be with us. Rest in power, Hara.

Oh, songs! Honey was their first #1 song. Mister is the song that blew them up into superstardom, it was a b side for Wanna that got huge and they made their Japanese debut with it. They were so huge in Japan that it took TWICE, even with today's inflated sales numbers, until 2022 to surpass them as the best selling kpop girl group in Japan. Crazy shit, they RULED Japan. Lupin is awesome! Damaged Lady is one of my favorites. Mamma Mia is perfection. You'll also notice massive jumps in quality as the MVs go because they'd release a Korean comeback then fuck off to Japan to promote and release songs for like a year and a half, because they were so huge. 😅

"Who is hitting all of these notes?" Nearly all of them. Seungyeon is the main vocal that would traditionally handle ad libs if Kara were a typical Kpop group, but nearly all of them have done adlibs in songs. Often switching who is carrying the main vocal line and who is doing an adlib. Once you start to recognize their different vocal colors you will easily be able to pick our who is doing the ad libs as well. I recommend learning to discern Seungyeon's, Jiyoung's and Nicoles first because while they are all clearly unique, Hara's Gyuri's and Youngji's are extremly unique from each other, so learning the first 3 will allow you to have the 2nd 3 as a "gimmes" When I Move (which has everyone but Hara,) Mamma Mia (which does not have Nicole, or Jiyoung) and Damaged Lady (no Youngji) are all excellent songs for this "exercise"

K-POP LEGENDS KARA! 👍 They are one of the very few kpop groups (besides SNSD & TWICE) who have a even better japanese discography than their korean one, for me at least. SOS is one of the best songs of all time. Although they were not very active the last years, they still managed to sell out multible arenas in Japan during their tour last year. Their fans (Kamilia) don't easily forget. I really can't wait for the next parts (they have so many great songs 😉). btw: I'm tearing up everytime I see the 6 mic stands at the end of When I Move. 😭 RIP HARA.

Crazy enough their debut was a commercial and basically critical failure, tbh it's one of my favorite albums from them, but even back in 2007 people said it sounded dated and too similar to early 2000s American pop. That singer you pointed out in the first song left and so instead of disbanding them, they brought in Jiyoung & Hara and completely changed their concept from hip-pop to cutsy bubblegum pop.

I was so hyped for this debut. KARA was from DSP, famous for the legendary 1st gen girl group Finkl, which famously included Lee Hyori. The og 4 of KARA were presented as 1:1 with the 4 members of Finkl. Step was one of my first ever kpop songs! I remember watching the video in amazement and replaying it over and over. It was just so bright and cheerful and colourful and unlike anything else I knew of at the time. When you brought up Jonghyun when you learned of Goo Hara untimely ending. Its actually considered the darkest year in KPOP by many.. we lost Hara from self exiting in Nov 2019, due to depression and a form of survivors guilt coz her BFF Sulli (a member of F(X) ) self exited in Oct 2019 due to cyber bullying and mental health issue.. and the loss of Jonghyun in Dec 2017.. absolutely devastating time... we lost 3 angels 2 of the 3 in consecutive months. This was the start of agencies taking mental health of idols more serious and allowing idols hiatus/breaks for mental health.
